Upper Eyelift Surgery - had it done a year ago

I had upper eyelift surgery (Blepharoplasty) done a year ago in Essex to fix drooping eyelids (see before and after pics) which became more noticeable as I got older. Finally, I plucked up courage to get it done but at the time found it hard to source real life experiences of the surgery, the after effects and final results on the internet from those in the UK.. So, if you are thinking of having it done and need to ask about it, feel free!

I had the procedure done at Springfield Hospital in Chelmsford with Prof. James Frame. I did my research on him and he also came highly recommended. He was so nice and very respected in the field of aesthetics. A safe pair of hands.

As soon as you mentioned Essex I knew you were going to say James Frame. He’s brilliant. He did my lower face lift and blepharoplasty twelve years ago and I still get compliments.

That result has been very satisfactory and well worth the effort.
May I ask a some impolite questions? (Shoot me down if this is a step too far).
1. Was it very painful?
2. Approx how much did it cost (£100s, £1000s)?
3. How do you go about finding a good surgeon?
I'm sure every case is different, but you've knocked years off your face, well done!

I have a friend in Australia who had her upper eyelids lifted at the same time as the cataract operation.
The results were remarkable but I presume this was done privately.

I am 63 and have extremely poor sight. This has been the case since infancy. My vision is -14 and I also have astigmatism. I have developed a cataract in my left eye which has 'matured' very quickly. My right eye is also now developing a cataract. I am being put forward for surgery. I gather that the process of operating on the eyes for this can result in drooping eyelids. In most cases this reverses itself within 6 months. I think the NHS will rectify if there is still a problem. Will keep people posted (wish they would treat bags under my eyes at same time smile

The details are in the OP's post immediately above yours.

I also have very droopy eyelids and so did my father. He did have upper eye lid surgery (local anesthetic) on the NHS which was very successful. I would also like to have surgery to correct my droopy eyelids. Would need to have it done privately as my eyesight doesn't appear to be affected by this Yet. How do I find a good surgeon to do this. Are you able to say which surgeon did yours Burmesecatlover? Amazing results

PollyPerkins you definitely can have it done on the NHS as i said in my earlier post,if it affecting your sight
I had my under general, but i have no scar,it was done so the stitches were under the skin and dissolved naturally

I was referred to nhs by Specsavers for my droopy eyelid. The surgeon said it was caused by a dropped eyebrow and the op took a slice away from above the eyebrow. Done under local with the awful smell of burning flesh as it was cauterised. Hurt for a couple of days after and have a small scar above the eyebrow which my fringe covers. Did worry that I’d look quizzical but both brows seem to match and droopy eyelid has gone.

I had it done, local anaesthetic with sedation as a day case and home the same evening.
Cost around 2,500?
Cosmetically it continues to improve even a year or more later.
Wish I had done it sooner.

I’m rather sceptical about cosmetic procedures, but must admit yours looks very successful. Excellent result you look good ?

Caro6699 Sat 03-Oct-20 13:00:31

Burmesecatlover I am considering having this done and like you have found it difficult to get good advice.
Can I ask you where you had yours done, and the name of the specialist.
You look fabulous ?

Burmesecatlover Sat 03-Oct-20 12:41:10

I was so glad I had it done with an expert in eye surgery as it turned out I had a prolapsed tear gland, which I never even knew I had! He sewed that back in place at the same time. It has really improved my pheriphial vision too. The healing can take longer than you think and a proper end result takes about a year.

I would love to have it done. All the females on my fathers side of the family had very droopy eyelids and I have inherited it. My opticians never mentioned it and I’ve had eye surgery for something else but that was with a local anaesthetic . I’m terrified of having a general.

Deedaa having met you I would never have thought you needed to have it done. But for the same reason I’m following this thread, my eye consultant (glaucoma) suggested it once but I tarried too long.

Deedaa Tue 29-Sept-20 20:38:01

It's the one thing I could be tempted by.

I had mine done, top lid and under eye nearly 20 years ago. Cost about £5000 with an overnight. Eyelids were very heavy but didn’t think I might get help on the nhs. The Surgeon said he had never taken so much excess skin. It healed very quickly and still looks ok even after all this time. For me very worth while with no regrets. For the first time in years I could actually wear eye shadow. I still can.

AND apparently I can't see my keyboard either.

so not do

Illte Tue 29-Sept-20 16:43:40

Gosh, I'd love to have it done. My eyelids are do droopy I have to open them with my fingers when I wake up ?

Burmesecatlover Tue 29-Sept-20 16:20:34

It costs about £4,000 in a private hospital and was done by a leading surgeon - that includes an overnight stay and it was done under general anesthetic. I had a cooling eyemask all through that first night, which was attached to circulating water set at a certain temperature and had no bruising whatsoever as a consequence. The surgeon said it's the one thing surgically a woman can do that makes the most difference aesthetically.

pollyperkins Tue 29-Sept-20 07:59:00

Droopy not drippy! Flipping predictive text.

pollyperkins Tue 29-Sept-20 07:58:11

My eyelids are extremely drippy & in photos I look as if my eyes are closed. I hate it. My optician said as long as I can see ok I wouldn’t get it done on the nhs. But would have to go privately. I assumed it would be too expensive. About what sort of price are we talking about?

Lucca Tue 29-Sept-20 07:47:30

I wouldn’t even know where to begin with my aged face. Sometimes it really upsets me how wrinkly/lined am but then I do the count your blessings thing as I am pretty fit and healthy bar a bit of arthritis!

GagaJo Tue 29-Sept-20 07:40:27

I would like a neck lift. I used to have a very full face, which slimmed down as I got older. Unfortunately leaving me with bad turkey neck. I hate it and at times it is even uncomfortable.
