Can I wear a jumpsuit when I'm 70

I will reach the age of 70 this year. I think (and am told) that I don't look my age and that I am quite trendy - not ridiculous high fashion though. Can I get away with wearing a jumpsuit? I have seen a Brora one in their sale which is blue linen (looks a bit like denim) with a front zip. Don't want to look like mutton.....

I have 2, both from Next. A black & white, front fastening jersey one which I can wear all year round and a coral cotton one which fastens with buttons at the back.
Don't know if I'll be able to wear the coral one this summer as I have developed a frozen shoulder and would not be able to get my arm up my back enough to fasten it.
I have no problem in storing them, the jersey one is on a hanger behind my bedroom door and the other is folded at the waist and put on one of those hangers with 2 clips at the top.

Absolutely yes. There is no age limit to whatever you want to wear. It is entirely harmless.

In my twenties I decided, it was winter, to wear my jumper over the top of my jumpsuit just to ring the changes.
OMG the difficulty going to the loo! Coat off , jumper off, check bottom (of trousers) aren’t all over the floor.
Apart from almost weeing all over the floor I was freezing.?
Never again even in summer.

Go for it if you feel comfotable and confident!

You go for it. Life is for living and enjoying yourself. Have confidence and trust that you will look great... In whatever makes you happy.

I think it is all to do with the length. I have a friend who is slim and wears them, but far too short (my DH calls it half-mast) and she looks silly!

25% off jumpsuits at White Stuff, including this one, which I see they have shown on an older model

Tmi storynanny? (I really don't think I could manage that manoeuvre!)

Deedaa Mon 01-Feb-21 22:15:12

I don't think age comes into it. Shape matters more. I haven't had the figure for a jumpsuit since I was 40. If I was as slim now as I was in my 20s I wouldn't hesitate.

I’m 64 and I’ve got a lovely mid calf length one which I wear in the spring/summer. The first few times I wore it I undid the front buttons and pulled it down.
However.... my stepdaughter noticed it has quite wide legs so suggested I experimented with pulling up one leg to my bottom and holding the crutch of trousers to one side. Sorted, wee easily done with no undressing! I’ve had loads of practice in the past in fully clothed outdoor wees so this was a doddle!

Hetty58 Mon 01-Feb-21 21:43:36

Jumpsuit yes, shorts no!

Just check the side and back view - as anything looks OK from the front (so many flat or droopy bums about).

Ro60 Mon 01-Feb-21 21:31:27

Yes definitely easy to wear - love mine - the evening one had for several years and still looks great with a cardigan for the colder nights.
However if you decide to get a cat woman type do send a pic ??

Yes definitely I bought a black/white one last year and I love it. Just need a holiday now to wear it.

M0nica Mon 01-Feb-21 18:24:00

You can wear anything at any age.

vegansrock Mon 01-Feb-21 18:18:14

I’ve got 2 jumpsuits and love them , one has a side zip and is more of an evening outfit, and the other is a jersey one that just stretches up and down - really comfy lounge wear, wear it loads round the house, I don’t find loo visits a problem, I always wear a t shirt or sweater underneath.

Larsonsmum Mon 01-Feb-21 16:01:25

Of course you can. I love them, but I look at them, and always think - what a real faff to go to the loo!!

I had a lovely black one with a zipped front in the early 70s. We were out for a meal one night in a lovely restaurant where a friend worked as a waitress. We both love Rum Babas and after our starter & main course my friend Helen 'treated' us to 2 Rum Babas each with 'lashings' of cream when we ordered our dessert.

I had to travel all the way home in the car with my jump suit unzipped, as my stomach was SO full!!

Don’t think age has any bearing. If it looks good and you are comfortable, go for it.

Kate1949 Mon 01-Feb-21 15:51:28

I'm 71. I have two lovely ones.

fevertree Mon 01-Feb-21 15:49:43

I am 71 and would happily wear a jumpsuit, except ... I bought one for a wedding a few years ago and what a faff it was in the loo. I wore it once and swore never again. It went to the charity shop tout suite grin

Lisagran Mon 01-Feb-21 15:45:13

I think grandetanteJE65s comment is right - if it looks good in the mirror when you try it on, go for it. I think sometimes, whatever age we are, we like the idea of a garment, but when we wear it, it doesn’t suit us. Nothing to do with age - some clothes styles suit taller people, for instance. I don’t think jumpsuits are a ‘young person’s’ style exclusively at all. Is it this jumpsuit? Looks great!

Puzzler61 Mon 01-Feb-21 15:29:25

If any manufacturers are looking in - please note - put zips in the side of jumpsuits, not centre back,

EllanVannin Mon 01-Feb-21 15:27:22

I certainly would and I'm 80. Tall/ slim---why not ?

Anniezee Mon 01-Feb-21 15:25:41

Oh yes, Why do they make them with a back zip? I don't want to take anyone with me when I go to the loo to unzip and do me up again!!! I'd only get one with front fastening.

Sarnia Mon 01-Feb-21 15:24:19

You go for it. I find not being bothered about anyone else's opinion is one of the benefits of getting to a certain age.

grandtanteJE65 Mon 01-Feb-21 15:21:24

If you want to wear a jumpsuit and don't change your mind when you look in the mirror, then go ahead.

At 70 we must surely be old enough not to need other peoples'
permission.

Surely it is time to get past this clothes for a certain age group thing? You want a jumpsuit, so enjoy it.
