I will reach the age of 70 this year. I think (and am told) that I don't look my age and that I am quite trendy - not ridiculous high fashion though. Can I get away with wearing a jumpsuit? I have seen a Brora one in their sale which is blue linen (looks a bit like denim) with a front zip. Don't want to look like mutton.....

Yes of course you can. I wear one often. I think they look really smart. The only downside is going to the loo.

Puzzler61 Mon 01-Feb-21 14:48:46

Yes you can Anniezee.
My sister is your age and has one and looks elegant and lovely in it.

Blossoming Mon 01-Feb-21 14:49:23

Yes, if you want to.

Cherrytree59 Mon 01-Feb-21 14:51:23

Sounds lovely,smile
I had several jumpsuits many moons ago.
But now well....
How it's quick can I get down for loo?
Would I freeze in the mean time?

Can I keep it off the floor ?

All of which never seemed to worry me before,
but now.. ??

Cherrytree59 Mon 01-Feb-21 14:52:37

Oops 'it's how quick ....'

You can wear any thing you like age has nothing to do with it. If you like it buy it ??

DH bought me a lovely black one in John Lewis sale last summer, I'm 73, and don't think that I look like mutton!

BassGrammy Mon 01-Feb-21 14:57:36

Yes! No different from a top and trousers (apart from the loo problem!). Make sure it has a long ‘puller’ if the zip is at the back!

Hithere Mon 01-Feb-21 15:01:02

Why not? Do it!

Madgran77 Mon 01-Feb-21 15:04:48

Yes, very useful garments!!

Tea3 Mon 01-Feb-21 15:07:05

I think jumpsuits fall into the category of ‘Lovely, but hard work to wear’ ....frankly at any age....wrestling oneself in and out of it in a public loo cubicle, making sure a sleeve doesn’t dangle in the loo basin or parts of the garment don’t wipe the floor. And where to hang it in the wardrobe would be a problem for me with the so much clutter in the bottom part.

Wear what you want to wear AnnieZee , if it’s comfy then go for it, I don’t wear them myself personally as they would annoy me personally when going to the loo, but I think they look great on other people

grandtanteJE65 Mon 01-Feb-21 15:21:24

If you want to wear a jumpsuit and don't change your mind when you look in the mirror, then go ahead.

At 70 we must surely be old enough not to need other peoples'
permission.

Surely it is time to get past this clothes for a certain age group thing? You want a jumpsuit, so enjoy it.

Sarnia Mon 01-Feb-21 15:24:19

You go for it. I find not being bothered about anyone else's opinion is one of the benefits of getting to a certain age.

Anniezee Mon 01-Feb-21 15:25:41

Oh yes, Why do they make them with a back zip? I don't want to take anyone with me when I go to the loo to unzip and do me up again!!! I'd only get one with front fastening.

EllanVannin Mon 01-Feb-21 15:27:22

I certainly would and I'm 80. Tall/ slim---why not ?

Puzzler61 Mon 01-Feb-21 15:29:25

If any manufacturers are looking in - please note - put zips in the side of jumpsuits, not centre back,

Lisagran Mon 01-Feb-21 15:45:13

I think grandetanteJE65s comment is right - if it looks good in the mirror when you try it on, go for it. I think sometimes, whatever age we are, we like the idea of a garment, but when we wear it, it doesn’t suit us. Nothing to do with age - some clothes styles suit taller people, for instance. I don’t think jumpsuits are a ‘young person’s’ style exclusively at all. Is it this jumpsuit? Looks great!

fevertree Mon 01-Feb-21 15:49:43

I am 71 and would happily wear a jumpsuit, except ... I bought one for a wedding a few years ago and what a faff it was in the loo. I wore it once and swore never again. It went to the charity shop tout suite grin

Kate1949 Mon 01-Feb-21 15:51:28

I'm 71. I have two lovely ones.

ginny Mon 01-Feb-21 15:54:30

Don’t think age has any bearing. If it looks good and you are comfortable, go for it.

Larsonsmum Mon 01-Feb-21 16:01:25

Of course you can. I love them, but I look at them, and always think - what a real faff to go to the loo!!

I had a lovely black one with a zipped front in the early 70s. We were out for a meal one night in a lovely restaurant where a friend worked as a waitress. We both love Rum Babas and after our starter & main course my friend Helen 'treated' us to 2 Rum Babas each with 'lashings' of cream when we ordered our dessert.

I had to travel all the way home in the car with my jump suit unzipped, as my stomach was SO full!!

vegansrock Mon 01-Feb-21 18:18:14

I’ve got 2 jumpsuits and love them , one has a side zip and is more of an evening outfit, and the other is a jersey one that just stretches up and down - really comfy lounge wear, wear it loads round the house, I don’t find loo visits a problem, I always wear a t shirt or sweater underneath.

You can wear anything at any age.
