Good job Glosgran!

Luckily we are not in such a tight lockdown and are allowed haircuts now. I went 4 months last year without a cut and managed to trim the front myself but left the sides and back. The tricky part was getting it to blend in. My hair is quite wavy so can hide some sins. I did let my grey go natural though, and I am happy with the result.

I haven't cut mine but I'll probably have to as they already look like a mess

I've done it - couldn't stand it any longer, especially at night.
I washed and combed it then did the fringe first.
Then managed to take about 4" off the sides and most of the back. Husband levelled off the back. I feel a kilo lighter!
It doesn't look too bad as it's naturally wavy.
The fringe needs more attention though - too much pudding-basin.

I haven’t had my fine straight shoulder length hair cut for over a year. Now it’s halfway down my back. The ends are like kapok. My husband has offered to cut it but as he badly burnt my ear with hair straightness once I’m quite reluctant. When it’s less cold I’ll ask daughter to cut it outside.

I cut mine last week I thought it looked ok. I have very fine hair that is slow to grow but it looked dry and tatty at the ends so I popped it into electric bands then just even up the ends.
My daughter was chatting to me on zoom she said your hair looks fabulous what have you done? So it must indeed be ok. I just feel that whats the worst that can happen? If it had not have worked I would just put it up till I could get it fixed. I did just keep it simple though.

I haven't had my hair cut by a hairdresser since Feb 2020. I saw this haircutting tool www.combpal.com/
but I bought a far cheaper version for under £7 on Amazon. I cut the front, top and sides and my husband is now quite proficient at cutting the back.

I've trimmed my fringe using an Amazon gadget but it's still like a donkey's hind leg. It seems to need doing more or less every week probably because I don't dare take much off. It's hard to trim the sides and make them match. I toy with the idea of growing it but I get very fed up with it looking so scruffy so out come the scissors again. I'd love to know when hairdressers can start work again.

I've got more courage now to DIY.
A related problem - eyebrows. I had a look at mine today in a favourable light and plucked out several of about an inch long.
If they grow much longer I won't be able to see!
I remember a post by someone on here about a year ago who said if this goes on for long we'll all look like wooly mammoths - not far from the truth.

I cut my hair myself last weekend (it is a short style but it was getting long and annoying) and it must have looked good as people kept asking if I had been to the hairdresser when I am not allowed to. I told them I cut it myself and they are shocked. The only problem is I cannot do the back.

I have trimmed my fringe.. My hair is curly so it it not a matter of a straight line! grin but it really needs the magic of my hairdresser to tame it! Curly hair tends to be dryer anyway and the longer it gets the more wayward and willful it becomes!

Have been chopping shoulder length bob since March. I do a pony tail then second elastic band further down to length I want and chop with hairdressing scissors. My hair has natural wave and I really prefer it to hairdressers straight bob.

Other half lets me cut his mop with razor then I move on to springer spaniel! Though weather's too cold this week to do them..

Only the fringe - I wouldn't dare to attempt anything else! Thank goodness for scrunchies and hair clips.

OurKid1 Sat 13-Feb-21 16:02:30

Tucking it all behind the ears hides a multitude of sins for me; that and the fact that my fringe reaches the end of my nose, so I can't actually see what it looks like, or where I'm going.

Servalan I do remember her i just lol DH wants to know what I'm laughing at

Alioop Sat 13-Feb-21 15:14:19

My fringe is the only but getting cut. My dogs away at her groomers today and I'm bloomin jealous!

Jaxjacky Sat 13-Feb-21 14:42:49

Riggie I’ve perfected the extremely messy bob , even DH mentioned bed head this morning, most unusual, normally he doesn’t even notice my hair!

Greyduster Sat 13-Feb-21 14:25:26

I have had a go at mine, just as I did in the last lockdown, trimming the sides using the trimmer on DH’s electric razor. I get very annoyed with it if the sides get too long and thick around my ears. If I can summon up the courage I might take a little off the top too, but last time I did it my hairdresser wasn’t impressed and suggested I should leave the top alone because she can’t rectify my handiwork as easily as she can with the sides! I was wondering whether to get a cutting comb. Has anyone used one?

My last haircut was in early March last year - a short bob graduated at the neck. I'm now probably only weeks away from being able to reprise my 1960s' French pleat/beehive hairstyle. Meanwhile I'm channelling Bill Bailey/Mary Beard in the hair department.

I'm toying with the idea of asking my son in law to give me a hair cut. My DD bought clippers which she thought she would use to keep the boys hair neat. They won't let her do it they want to grow their hair long shock.
SiL gave my DD a good clip out and she looked like Servalan from Blake's Seven, if you remember that.
I'll have to wait until it's a bit warmer outside, as I'd be shivering in the garden in this weather.

Just had a week off - holiday to use up. So got in touch with my inner 5 year old.
Watched some YouTube videos & did a dry cut - put in a pony tail & lobbed off 6" so it's back just above shoulder length?
I'm happy with it - looks lot better than before - though my hairdresser might beg to differ.
Slightly longer at the front bob.
Just goes to show I can't be left alone ? Also painted some furniture so it's a good job I'm back at work ?

dirgni Sat 13-Feb-21 12:46:59

Did try and made a right mess of it! Can’t wait till we can go to the hairdressers again!

Craftycat Sat 13-Feb-21 12:37:05

I haven't had a go at mine yet but it's getting close. I have started to grow my fringe out but not sure how long I will be able to resist chopping at it!
My hairdresser works from her own home so it will probably be a longer wait that salons.

Aepgirl Sat 13-Feb-21 12:26:44

No, wouldn’t even consider it.

I've always trimmed my fringe and a couple of months age I cut about an inch off the rest of my hair. My daughter groaned when I told her but when she saw it she said it looked ok. I'm fed up with the length of my hair now so tomorrow I'm going to cut about 3 inches off the length which will bring it up to my shoulders. I haven't told my son and daughter !!!
