Good for you Flaxseed! Wear what makes you feel good.

On a far lesser scale Flaxseed I have now accepted that I don’t suit or enjoy wearing day to day dresses or skirts with tops. I have a few very long cotton dresses for the summer, otherwise it’s jeans or shorts. Well done you, quite a journey of discovery, enjoy your new, more comfortable self ??

Good for you!!

Well done! I'm not quite there (at 69). I'm not a slave to fashion but I do like to look reasonably up to date. I'm so scared of looking like an old frump.
Have fun choosing your new wardrobe smile

keepingquiet I hope you realise it was a rhetorical question smile

Thank you for sharing my joy everyone!
I, too, keep things ‘for best’. But will work on changing that too.
NotSpaghetti How wonderful to have your Mother’s cocktail dresses. I can understand why you find them difficult to part with.
I have spent most of the day taking and uploading photos of my old clothes to sell on. It’s very time consuming but hopefully worthwhile wink

Good for you I wish I had the same motivation maybe when it warms up..

Glad you feel happy with who you are now Flaxseed. It does take time to realise that we aren't 25 any more and the high heels and size 10 clothes are not for us any more. Then we can enjoy the very attractive clothes that suit us better.

janeainsworth Fri 12-Feb-21 17:02:54

Notspaghetti it’s hard isn’t it. I find it easier if I can convince myself that someone is going to get enjoyment from the items I’m sentimentally attached to, but have no use for.
Perhaps you could sell the dresses on eBay and then buy yourself something nice that you would wear with the proceeds?

janeainsworth Fri 12-Feb-21 16:58:48

Well done Flaxseed.
I had a similar liberating moment when I realised how silly it was to save things ‘for best’, an idea which was drummed into me at a very early age.
Now I wear whatever I like and enjoy my clothes.
Keepingquiet it might be better to try to live up to your username if you can’t think of anything constructive to add to the thread. hmm

Well done indeed! I need to do that too - lots of favourites that don’t fit moved house with us!

Kittye Fri 12-Feb-21 16:49:34

Me too * Parsley 3* I’ve saved a fortune in hairdressing bills as well.
Just the cost of a cut and blow dry now and then. My hair is in much better condition too. Does need a trim though ?

Parsley3 Fri 12-Feb-21 14:20:49

Congratulations Flaxseed I felt similarly liberated when I decided to stop dyeing my hair and embraced my silvery locks.

BigBertha1 Fri 12-Feb-21 14:16:29

Well done Flaxseed enjoy the new you.

NotSpaghetti Fri 12-Feb-21 14:10:42

I wish I could get rid of my mother's old cocktail dresses! Just am not ready to part with them. Always thought I'd wear them someday!
?

Ro60 Fri 12-Feb-21 12:53:51

Congratulations on your new found peace. I need to pin this up in my bedroom ?

keepingquiet Fri 12-Feb-21 12:47:19

I have no idea.

Flaxseed Fri 12-Feb-21 12:45:20

I have finally accepted that the latest high street fashion and my saggy face, veined hands and feet don’t mix.
I am also finally at peace with the fact I am never going to be a size 10 again

So, I am having a wardrobe revamp and replacing my favourite pieces with the next size up, by looking on places such as eBay and Vinted and I’m having lots of success!
I will sell the smaller sizes.
It’s taken me years to realise that I need to buy what suits me rather than what I am drawn to and I feel liberated!
Apart from the above, I have learnt the following
I need more supportive, comfortable footwear.
That there’s lots of it out there that looks nice!
That I don’t need a wardrobe bulging at the seams, especially as I wear uniform everyday at work
That I really like and suit classic pieces
That some colours really do not suit me
That I don’t need to spend loads on clothes.
That I am no longer a slave to fashion

Why has it taken my until I am nearing retirement to realise all of this?! confused
