Hair Colour Chat

Hello Everyone
I've had adverts for e-salon hair colour popping up on here on a regular basis, and I've finally taken the plunge and bought some.

Has anyone else tried it?
It's decades since I had my hair coloured at a salon, I've been doing my own since I was a teenager.

What is the best hair dye in your opinion?

Or have you recently 'ditched the dye' as the women's magazine cliche goes?

Just fancied a chat about hair really...

Colour mask by Schwarzkopf, it’s in a pot and doesn’t drip, the consistency is quite thick, love it, I would never ditch the dye, although I love pure white hair,

Thank you. I'll have a look at that.
Ooh yes, so do I.
My dad who is in his 70s has absolutely amazing hair. Really thick and pure white. It's quite long too.
He's a very handsome chap, bless him.
I think (hope) that I will go pure white too, but it's going to take a long, patchy time to get there.

I used E Salon in lockdown with great success.
I was advised to go darker, it was easy and my hairdresser was most impressed with the result.

Thank you Sago, that sounds most promising

I don’t dye these days, but I don’t think I’d attempt it at home. My wonky hand would pepper the walls and ceiling grin

Good luck FC

I just buy Superdrug own brand. I buy a colour several shades lighter than my natural colour so that it colours the grey well but leaves my hair with that divergence of shades that natrual coloured hair has.

I have not considered ditching the dye. I only dye my hair every three or four months and it only takes half an hour and I am going grey in a very untidy way, 50% grey round the edges, only a little in the middle.

I would also recommend E Salon. It covered my grey roots beautifully and the shade of blonde they advised was just right. I am going to continue using it every so often . Much cheaper than the hairdresser.

Following on from reading this thread I went online to e-salon and sorted 10 weekly hair colour deliveries out. I have a ‘mobile’ hairdresser ( well they’re all mobile rather than static, but this one comes to the house ?)who does my hair ever 6 weeks, so hopefully she’ll be up for applying the new highlights.
This is why I like Gransnet- you can pick up recommendations and ideas.
Thankyou

FannyCornforth my parents had lovely white hair when in seventies, and if I could go from my colour to pure white within weeks I would do it, but it ain’t gonna happen? as mine comes through silver grey, and as soon as I see it , it’s straight to the colour mask colourant

After 18 months of not being able to see a hairdresser (her husband's illness, lockdown and us moving home) I've finally taken the plunge and have a mobile hairdresser coming next week to bleach my hair and colour it silver. I've used box dyes a couple of times but it wouldn't colour the back which is much darker than the white the front has gone. She said box dyes don't last as long as the colours they use so hoping this works. I did look at the online salon colours but I just can't reach the back properly so gave up. Hope you get good results with your purchase smile

I’ve coloured my own hair for many years and the best I’ve ever tried is ClairolNatural Instincts. I dread to think what I will do if they ever stop making it!

My naturally light curly red hair started going a streaky white in my late thirties. I have used a colour tinted shampoo in a copper colour to blend in. My colour was fading faster and my dd asked me to leave the shampoo out. She thought it looked patchy and the natural colour all over looks lovely. If I meet anyone I know shopping etc they compliment my blonde hair but it’s naturally white!

I have never had my hair coloured at a salon but have been doing it myself for many years.

I use "Nice n Easy" - temporary (not permanent which contains ammonia) and usually mix two colours, going gradually a little bit lighter as my skin has aged . It comes with a nice conditioner and you can use Root Touchup in between treatments.

Thank you Willow
Going silver sounds very exciting.
I know that one day I'm going to have to go much lighter as the grey progresses.
I'm currently medium brown with quite a lot of white and I colour it auburn; a sort of more interesting version of its natural colour.

I used e-salon for many years.Best one out there IMO to do it yourself.
I’ve now decided to go grey gracefully,it is actually nearly white!

I have had my hair professionally coloured at the hairdressers for 10/15 years, but it’s now (in the last year) very grey - different shades of grey, but grey as a badger. My natural colour was dark mouse-y brown. I was recently tempted to use the e colours, but undecided, so good to hear your recommendations. Everyone tells me the grey hair looks good, but are they just being nice?! I feel a lot older with grey hair. I catch my reflection in the mirror and think “that’s not me .... is it?!” Yes it blooming well is!! ! Aaaagh!

Last dyed my hair in December 2019. Let it go grey naturally without any highlights. Best decision I ever made! My hair has never been so soft and shiny. And I have never had so many compliments as I do now. Having a great haircut is important and sticking with it while it goes through an 'awkward' phase for a couple of months at the start.
