Hi is it taboo to go bare legged at a wedding (guest) or should it be tights/stockings? I am short plump (fat) and they tend to sag after a while?
Thank you all I will go for tights don't think I would feel dressed other wise
Self tan mousse and the finest denier flesh-coloured tights you can find. Bare legs are noticeable and don’t usually look smart on an older woman.
I wouldn't dream of going bare legged to a formal occasion like a wedding, though I know some of my friends would, but with my legs I need a pair of tights.
I envy some of the posters on this thread who can manage bare legged, esp in summer. Don't like hold-ups as have had malfunctions with them.
I recall seeing a lot of women in dresses without pantyhose at a summer venue a few years back. It caught my notice because I wasn't used to seeing it and the ones I noticed would have definitely looked better with the pantyhose, in my opinion.
I thought the lack of them made their overall appearance look unfinished rather than polished, like if they'd gotten all done up for a fancy event but left off their make up or jewelry.
I use my phone camera for questions like this. It's surprising what shows up in the pics that I didn't notice in real life (both with personal appearance and room appearance).
The main thing I noticed was the legs looked too light compared to the rest so maybe the other suggestions would do, a fake tan or an ankle length dress.
Of course it also depends on how much you care about it. I mean, it's not like it stands out enough that people would stop what they were doing to stare or anything. And it's likely many others will not have hose on because it seems to have become popular.
Another option is to start with the pantyhose and just slip into the ladies room and take them off if they bother you later on. Gee, I didn't realize I had so much to say on the topic.
Have you tried Snag tights? You can get them online and they are made to fit different widths as well as lengths, which conventional tights do. Their sizing is very generous and there is a huge range of colours and deniers. They fit from size 6 to 36. Everyone l know who has tried them (including me) would not wear any other brand now. They are so comfortable that you forget you are wearing them. I have never had this with any other tights.
Can anyone recommend a brand of concealer for varicose veins on the calves?
Sally Hansen leg make up is fantastic and covers blemishes. My daughter recommended it to me and it gives a lovely finish. You can choose light or dark.
If you feel you must wear tights, choose a fine denier, say 7 denier.
This thread reminds me of criticism of Meghan not wearing ‘pantyhose’ (American expression. Diana didn’t wear them later on.
Don’t fancy bare legs at the mo, it’s freezing!
I had this dilemma for couple of summer weddings. Hate wearing tights and can’t cope with heels any more. My legs are a good shape but ankles have been invaded by thread veins! Ended up wearing a tropical print jumpsuit from Monsoon with sparkly flats. So comfortable but looked dressy. Wedding outfits are stressful! Good luck finding an outfit and enjoy the day.
In my humble opinion, there are some occasions in this life where tights and possibly a hat or fascinator are required out of respect for the occasion.
Get your legs shaved or waxed & try to see yourself differently. If you do decide against tights or hold ups at least take the hair off your legs & use fake tan. Maybe even treat yourself to fake tan legs professionally done at your local beauty parlour.
Your chance to look your best and step out! Have a lovely day.
Personally, I wouldn't go bare legged. You could wear tights for the formal part, and remove them for evening. It's not so bad if your legs are slim and tanned, but I feel bare legs are more for casual outings and clothes, and bare feet don't look so good in smart shoes. Each to their own.
I think a wedding is too formal an occasion to go bare legged, unless you are 18 with lithe tanned limbs all the way up to your armpits, and even then.
How about hold-ups? Or if you are wearing trousers or an ankle length skirt/dress, very sheer pop socks.
Lindiann... Do tights sag on you? You can wear a longish dress / skirt and some nice sandals with bare legs . I've seen those worn at weddings. Or wear a long dress / skirt with those pop socks, (knee high tights ) no one will know .
I can't remember the last time I wore tights ! Being plus sized, They either act as a torniquet around your thighs , cut into your crotch as if you're wearing barbed wire or Nora Batty's!
The only ones that fit well for me were from BHS.
The last wedding I attended was in Australia and I got round the tights dilemma by wearing a maxi dress!
I have a special wedding to attend this year, one that has been postponed twice already
I won't wear tights
My dress is ballerina length, so will pop some Dove on every night a week or so before and that will have to do
I doubt anyone's going to notice or care
I wouldn’t feel dressed if I didn’t wear stockings or in my case tights, unless I wore a maxi dress which would ridiculous on me.
Stilton
Why is there an overwhelming concensus that it's okay for tanned, slim, hairless legs to be on display but not anything else?
If you don't want to wear tights, don't wear them whatever 'state'your legs are in. It's not going to be on the Order of Service that 5:13pm is denier check time. Be happy, be comfortable.
Thank you! I have been reading the comments and wondering why we should be ashamed of our bodies. Who cares if your legs are white, hairy or wrinkled? Be comfortable. Do people really go around paying that much attention to the small details of other people's bodies? If they do, they shouldn't. If you don't like what you see, don't look at my legs. My face is up there.
Make up and jewelry are optional too. Not required if the wearer doesn't feel comfortable in them.
I would wear a hint of fake
tan if it's a summer Wedding...I'm not sure whether anyone will be that fussed what you do lol
Depends on length of dress and your legs.Trousers might be an option.Wide legged with a nice top.
OP didn’t say if the couple to be married are having a formal or a casual wedding.
If it’s informal I’d be happy with bare legs. My dress/outfit would not be above the knee - and the bottom half of my legs are the best part these days!
The bride will not be studying guests’ outfits maybe, but I think most women take notice what other women (and men) wear.
* I think most women take notice what other women (and men) wear.*
Their problem, not mine. I tend to not really take much notice of what people are wearing.
I always hate the look of bare legs. Definitely use fake tan if not wearing tights.
