I shopped at Principles too Zoejory.
I had a red wool swing coat and loved it. On reflection I probably looked like Santa Claus ?

Well if I could like I looked in the 80's when I was wearing them I'd be sorely tempted, but as we're talking shoulder pads as opposed to a miracle, it's a no from me.

I don't think I will go for them as I have broad, square shoulders and look like a baseball player with pads. However, removing them can cause problems with the fit as clothes are cut to accommodate shoulder pads. I was asked to alter a jacket which was a poor fit and I cured it by inserting a thin pad. It's a question of balance.

I don't mind in jackets, but they need to be well done, and fit nicely. The ones they are showing today are very exaggerated which is high fashion and looks great on the red carpet or runway, but not in everyday life.

Here's a killer look from Tom Ford. I couldn't pull it off, but appreciate the look of a strong woman.

I used to get a lot of dresses from Principles in the 80s

First thing I did when I got them home was cut the pads out.

Never was one for following fashion

I wore them in the 1980’s and imagined they made my waist look tiny as they exaggerated the width of my shoulders.
I won’t be wearing them now in the 2020’s.

They were a godsend to me as I have narrow shoulders! Bra straps always slipping down and anything boat neck was an absolute nono.
The slightly contoured ones I would welcome but not the over emphasised runway look.

Shinamae Fri 10-Sep-21 19:13:09

Absolutely not ?‍♀️

PinkCakes Fri 10-Sep-21 19:08:55

I didn't like them then, and still don't

Grannynannywanny Fri 10-Sep-21 18:50:14

I should have kept my shoulder padded shell suit from the 80s ?

Jaxjacky Fri 10-Sep-21 18:03:24

Fennel I took the pads out of mine too! As I don’t wear jackets, other than a fleece or raincoat, very, very rarely a dress, I think this will pass by me, thank goodness.

Gwyneth Fri 10-Sep-21 17:53:14

No thank you! Always ended up with one shoulder higher than the other!

NotTooOld Fri 10-Sep-21 17:49:50

Ooh, I loved them! Don't have any now but a jacket with padded shoulders looks so much better than the droopy ones. I shall miss out on big hair if that comes back, though!

Blossoming Fri 10-Sep-21 16:36:22

No. Well cut clothes don’t need pads.

Judy54 Fri 10-Sep-21 16:35:51

Absolutely will not be wearing them again Fennel looked hideous on me then and still would do today. So a big NO from me.

Lucca Fri 10-Sep-21 16:35:23

No. Absolutely not.

BlueBelle Fri 10-Sep-21 16:32:25

Nooooooo

maddyone Fri 10-Sep-21 15:45:38

I loathed them then and I still loathe them now. Horrid things that look ugly in my opinion.

Granmarderby10 Fri 10-Sep-21 15:22:31

Nooooo! Just yuk. Loathed them and Dallas and Margrate Thatcher and most of the 80s ?

ayse Wed 04-Aug-21 18:02:39

Oh no! My shoulders are broad at the best of times so I won’t be going down that path.

Redhead56 Wed 04-Aug-21 17:59:17

I wore them in the 80s won’t be doing it again.

Most of my clothes date back to the 80-90s when shoulder pads were common. then they went out. So I took the pads out and went round with droopy shoulders.
They seem to be coming back now. Sometimes with a little bump. I'll try to find some pictures.
What do you think?
