Do men like wet cold legs?

My husband is trying to buy a long, waterproof, warm winter coat. Think country dog walking rather than going to the office. Such a thing doesn't seem to be available.

Almost every winter coat for men ends at hip level just where the rain will run off onto his legs as he walks.

Do designers think men like wet cold legs? Do men like wet cold legs? Any ideas where we can find a suitable coat?

How about water proof trousers? Craghoppers etc

from the thread title, i'd assumed this was a faintly pornographic question.
there have been some odd queries recently.
even, men and their raincoats, could sound a bit dodgy.

Nothing even faintly pornographic about my DH getting cold and wet whilst walking the dog I'm afraid 'welbeck'....well except the language he uses when we're trying to find him a coat.

'Do men like wet cold legs?'

No (I thought) I'm sure they prefer dry warm ones!

Warwickshire Clothing have them.

I had a look for you and couldn't find anything either. I thought seasalt might do them for men, but no.

Try cotton traders.DH had one. Waterproof blue with tartan /quilt lined past knees(5'8" !) Cape as well for shoulders. No hood..... Or get a Barbour, pricey but we'll worth it

Chigleys Mon 20-Sep-21 16:31:14

You could always get him some waterproof walking trousers so that when it drips off the coat it continues down to the ground providing you have waterproof shoes, Goretex lined.

I was waiting for somebody to say it depended on whose legs they were!
MaybeMaw You didn't have long to wait then! grin
They do say that fools rush in where angels fear to tread, so I'll be the fool!
I was also awaiting for somebody to say they were "legless" after a couple of G & Ts' but I guess we're not talking mermai ds shock
Btw; how is something "faintly pornographic"?
Reminds me of "faintly pregnant!"

You can get trousers where you can unzip the legs and turn them into shorts. It would be good if you could get a long coat that you could unzip the bottom part and turn it into a short coat.

I love Seasalt JaneJudge and really wish there was a Seasalt for men.

Thank you all for your fantastic suggestions. The idea of waterproof trousers is a good one, but what he would like is just a coat he can put on...if it rains then he's covered without the need for either wearing waterproof trousers or carrying them every day on his dog walk.

I still can't believe how hard it is to find a warm, waterproof coat that covers you down to your knees. Even the outdoor companies (Millets/Mountain Warehouse etc) only have short jackets. I have to conclude that either most men like cold wet legs or have to carry a pair of waterproof trousers everywhere just in case.

Drizzabone long waxed coats.

Elegran Tue 21-Sep-21 14:55:38

Question - "Do men like wet cold legs?"
Answer - "Not usually, unless they are also shapely and attached to a dry warm curvy body. Then they can ignore the cold and wet (though the owner of the legs may not be too happy"

NotSpaghetti Tue 21-Sep-21 16:51:25

What about a traditional waxed coat?
My husband had one years ago. They are still made - loads available if you google it.

NotSpaghetti Tue 21-Sep-21 16:52:27

Oh. Just noticed the drizzabone are waxed!
Apologies.

PernillaVanilla Wed 29-Sep-21 13:24:33

My DH has a Drizabone stockman's coat, he wears it if the weather is really bad, it has leg straps so it can't blow open. It is even better for me as it comes down to my ankles and I'm fully covered if I borrow it and take the dog out when the rain is really bad. The dog isn't very impressed though.

I bought a long wax riding coat from a saddlery years ago. Cheaper than a lot of the brand named ones. Wouldn’t be without it.
