Mini Skirts for Winter 2021

After a conversation with DD and reading articles it seemed mini skirts are the fashion for Winter this year. Can you remember when you last wore a mini skirt and will you be partaking of the trend?
Mine would be the early 70's and stopped when I started teaching and showing my pants.
I think I would dare to bare my legs to the knee if covered in thick black tight but would probably look like a lollypop on a stick.

My skirt length in my teens was fingertip length. I now have long T-shirts which go past that (worn of course with trousers, shorts or skirts). My mother used to put my hems up and was happy to do so. My dad was more disapproving but got used to it as everyone our age wore very short skirts.

It’s me, isn’t it??

How did you guess?

My friend was rather beautiful.
She did some modelling (but she was never full of her own importance)

I have to have some attributes
I won't say how I would describe her in case she's on here and recognises herself ?

You probably are nice to make up for the fact that you're mushroom shaped. grin

I last wore one for my 60th, since I retired I live in jeans or shorts, so it went into the lockdown clothes cull bag.

We need either more tactful friends or better physiques.

It was my friend who commented to everyone that I looked like a mushroom many years ago.

Friends, who'd have 'em!

MissAdventure Sat 09-Oct-21 20:50:45

My friend told me years ago that I looked like Claire Rayner on Twiggy's legs. grin

I have thin legs.
With a big fat body on top of them. smile

Yes, I'd look like a mushroom now.

I bought two last year and wear them with thick tights. Btw I do have long thin legs despite being 75!

I have a mini-skirt and last wore it to wine club just before lockdown last year. Got it out the other day and will probably wear it with tights, boots and jumper again this winter.

Think my last mini would be around 1969. Certainly wouldn't wear one now. The pins are tolerable but I'm a coldie who mostly wears trousers nowadays.

I have some short (not exactly mini) corduroy and velvet skirts from White Stuff that I wear with thick tights and boots. Doesn’t seem to frighten the horses too much!

Callistemon Sat 09-Oct-21 16:53:36

If you wore it the first time round then you're probably too old to wear them when they come back into fashion!

I really dislike tights and leggings so no, I probably won't.

The last time I wore a mini skirt (i.e. above the knee) I was fifty and reasonably slim. I had a couple from M&S that I wore to work with thick tights, a smart blouse, and a black jacket. I changed jobs at that time and a lot of my work involved going to court, so they were no longer appropriate workwear.

To be honest I’d rarely ever worn short skirts before, which is why I have such clear memories of them - I’d lost some baby weight and my (then teenaged) daughter talked me into taking her shopping with me.

On other ladies , forgot to add.

TillyTrotter Sat 09-Oct-21 15:37:26

No I won’t, but I think the tartan or tweed ones look chic with knitted tights and boot shoes.

Poppyred Sat 09-Oct-21 15:31:34

Yes you can wear what you like BUT sadly a mini on an oldie is not a good look!

Grammaretto I like the look of that dress. Plenty of room for the tummy to expand. I might get one to wear for Christmas dinner.

I had the legs back in the 60s but that ship has long since sailed. If I still had the legs yes I would, not as short as I did back then and probably with opaque tights. I envy those who still look good in a short skirt but wish ladies of a certain size (which I won’t be drawn on) would refrain like I do!
