They have their uses like a waistcoat or gilet if you want bodily warmth and your arms free.

Oh dear no. Not a good look the first go round.

I have just bought one but although it is described as a tank top it is nothing like the tight fitting Fair Isle pattern numbers of years ago. Mine is a cable knit in charcoal grey and quite loose fitting. I like to wear it over a long sleeved blouse. I find it ideal for this time of the year when it isn't cold enough for a winter coat but not warm enough in just the blouse. Each to their own.
