Teddy Coat - should I get one?

I'm tempted to buy a teddy coat but I'm in my 70s and don't want to look like the proverbial mutton dressed as lamb. I am not fat (but not thin) and try to be fairly up to date clothes-wise but would a teddy coat be a step too far? I'm fed up with my Uniqlo padded coat and jackets and would really like something different and more colourful. What do others think? Has anyone got one?

I have had a Teddy coat for about 3 years when they first came out, love it, I saw them in bright colours recently and was tempted to buy another. Go for it.

What’s a teddy coat?

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 03-Nov-21 14:12:56

I wouldn’t want one, it would make me look even larger.

Just googled it. Please do not buy one.

I bought one pre pandemic as I wanted something comfortable to wear when I went to the cinema. Of course I’ve never worn it because we stopped going to the cinema due to covid. Given that they’ve been around for a few years so are not high fashion I think they are suitable for all ages now. My main gripe with mine is that it doesn’t have pockets. How can a coat not have pockets? Where do I put my hanky?

Treat yourself I am my most recent purchases teddy duvet teddy fitted sheet teddy dressing gown ready for winter. Don’t be worrying about what others think be nice and cosy.

I think I do not want to look like a cuddly toy,

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 03-Nov-21 14:21:15

You could always use the nice soft sleeve May???

Urmstongran Wed 03-Nov-21 14:21:21

I love mine.

Unless you are under 10, please don't.

I like them - on other people, but don't want to look like I've ventured out in my dressing gown.

Are they lined? I once had a faux sheepskin coat that would always ride up, so it became a garden coat.

Still, if you want one, then get one. I just bought a weird 'sherpa hoodie blanket' on ebay, but won't be going out in it.

So last year!

A coat has to have pockets and as long as it suits you whatever age you are, get one.,I think it would make me look bigger, I’m a 14/16

Gingster Thu 04-Nov-21 07:42:22

I’ve been thinking of getting one. Not sure about it though.
Like you I’m not thin or fat but it will make me look fatter and I have skinny legs so I don’t think it will suit me. I’ll try one in and see.

I don't even like my daughter in her teddy coat and she is youngish, slimish and definitely beautiful.
So if she doesn't look good in it.................??
Sorry if my answer is a bit disappointing but you did ask!

DGD(12) has one in a teddy bear brown/orange - looks cute on her!

I had a rare shop in TKMax, but was so cold, I put on a warm soft looking dusty pink jacket, just to warm up in the shop. I did tell the shop assistant I would buy it at the end of my shopping, but I felt I was being followed so took it off in the end. I bought it and have worn it ever since. I love it, it's so warm and cosy. Everyone admires it and one admirer told me it's a 'Teddy coat'

Chardy Thu 04-Nov-21 07:58:24

Whyever shouldn't you wear a warm snuggly coat? So my answer is buy it and wear it.

MayBee70 Thu 04-Nov-21 12:00:12

I know one thing. If I don’t wear mine the dog will love having it in her basket!

glammanana Thu 04-Nov-21 12:47:32

I have had one for 2yrs and yes they look cosy and snuggly but they are certainly not warm any wind or rain goes straight through them, only good on a dry Spring day imo.

Millie22 Thu 04-Nov-21 16:30:24

Err no is the short answer. They look cute on children.

Lizzie72 Thu 04-Nov-21 16:35:51

We can’t really say yes or no to the question, without knowing you, OP. Teddy coats, like biker jackets, wide-legged cropped trousers, leather look leggings, etc., look great on some people, less so on others. It depends on your size and shape, but mainly on your attitude. Try one on - if you like it, buy it and wear it!

They’re neither warm nor waterproof. At least mine isn’t. I rather regard it as a sort of giant cardigan. Something to throw on if I’m in the car.

I wear mine just in the car to go to and from my work and yes I too see it as a giant cardigan. Once home I change into a bigger coat to take my doggie straight out for walkies. But lovely and snuggly.
