Silverizing shampoo

I like the Aussie products.

I like l’Oréal Série Expert “Magnesium Silver” (Amazon)
It doesn’t make your hair go purple like some “silvering ” shampoos.

Hello. You probably need a blue one to neutralise the yellow.
Back in the day I had white blonde hair (ala Paula Yates) and it really did the trick of keeping it nice and bright (--until I bleached the beejeezus out of it and it all broke off)--

Loopyloo, I get a purple shampoo by L’Oreal from Amazon. About £20 for 1500ml. A bottle lasts almost 8/9 months. If you want to try it I can bring some along to our next meet-up next week.

Cross post Maw. That’s the one I get too and I agree it doesn’t turn hair blue.

I use the L’Oreal too. Big bottle lasts ages as you only need a bit and I’ve got very thick hair.

I'm following this thread as my hair is full of natural highlights!!
Anyone used shampoo bars for silver hair?

I use shampoo bars and find that they are very kind to my silvery hair. I haven't yet found any bars specifically for silver hair, though.

What about red heads like me? Mine never went white with age but cream!

I alternate between provoke and Aussie.. Then a deep cleansing shampoo once a month and my hair is white..

Blue is not opposite yellow on the colour wheel! You need purple to neutralise yellow and blue to neutralise red/orange tones!

I chopped off almost all my fading Auburn (coloured) hair this February and it was a yummy pepper with bits of salt colour! Although I sort of got used to it, I've gone back Auburn as it was not the glorious silver vixen shades à là adverts on the telly! I'm so envious of you lot with your fab gunmetal to silver White Barnets!

I have lilac purple coloured hair so I mix my own colours to keep it vibrant looking and bleach the roots about every 3 months.

However, I will suggest that rather than using a basic purple shampoo to use a purple based conditioner or hair mask instead. I recommend the Osmo Purple hair mask as it neutralises any yellow tones and leaves your hair feeling soft and nourished.

The reason I’m not keen on some purple shampoos is that the brands sold in supermarkets can be very drying as they contain cheap detergents to bulk them out and it gives them a high alkaline pH value, similar to perm lotion!

MayBeMaw. I wash my hair in the shower and I used to use this shampoo but gave up because if I didn’t wear gloves, the skin around my nails turned blue. I’m lazy and I found it too much of a faff.

Just scrolling through as ive never heard of silverising shampoos, and the add which appears (I'm on my phone) periodically is for STP engine flush. Since the ads often seem to pick up on the topic I'm wondering what's in these shampoos!

I found the Aussie one the best recently followed by Provoke.( This is more intense in colour though) Both work on my grey hair and turn it a shiny silver and the highlights I have finely done to lift the overall colour are never yellow - even with a few months between having them done. Over the years I have tried all sorts - but find that if I leave the second Aussie Purple shampoo on for two minutes or longer if I can - the result is an ash/silver colour that shines without any yellow at all.

I like White hot hair, a bit expensive but my hair is soft. It doesn’t make it purple.

Philip Kingsley for me everytime buy from qvc and if you don’t like it you can return for full refund not that I’d think you would but much better than having a bathroom full of stuff you wouldn’t use again

I use BoldUniq which I buy online. I find it does not dry my hair like some other cheaper supermarket shampoos tended to do. Been using it over the last 12 months, about every 3 weeks and still on first bottle purchased. Will buy again

White Hot Hair products are great. I'm not sure about their Shoosing cream but my hair is thinner than it used to be. The shampoos and conditioner are fabulous aand I use them all the time.

I use Aveda products for Silver hair .. it takes away the yellowing on my hair ..

Glad to see this thread as I've been wondering about this too.
I've highlighted hair. When I last had it done my hairdresser, who's also a friend (So I tend to heed her advice) said "Use silverising shampoo every couple of weeks"
I found it a bit difficult to find what she meant but got 'Touch of Silver' shampoo & conditioner.
Have used them twice now. They seem good as conditioning products. But they seem to bring out the grey in my hair more.
I'm not sure I like it. Is that what it's meant to do to your grey?
