New fashion women's jeans.

At last wider leg jeans, lets be honest, how many older women look good in tight or narrow leg jeans.. Even some younger women would do themselves a favour and not show of the huge hips' and unshapely legs. We cant all look like models. I have walked behind bandy legs, bowie legs, spindle legs and fat legs. Not a pretty sight. How much more feminine we will all look in the wider leg jeans. The problem is where do you purchase them, they are promoted but in which store.???

Joesoap Sun 02-Jan-22 14:30:21

My jeans are semi wide, that is not like drain pipes,I dont like flapping jeans.
I dont like seeing people with huge bottoms waddling around in tight jeans or in those tights things thinking they look smart, especially older women who think they lookthe height of fashion, they should have more sense, leave this to the youngsters.

Oh for goodness sake - why all the hurtful comments, to Lillian40's post? Obviously she has her reasons for prefering wide leg jeans, but none of us have the right to tell her she is being judgemental while doing exactly the same to her? I love skinny jeans and I think they suit me, but possibly they don't as I also have a big tum? Perhaps just let things go and answer the real question she is asking. Where does she buy the new wide leg jeans from apart from M&S who never have your size?Whatever that size happens to be.

What matters is what a person is comfortable with!

Rosalyn69 Sun 02-Jan-22 14:44:12

I personally don’t like wide leg jeans although I love wide leg trousers. And that’s me not a comment on what anyone else likes.

Maybe Lillian would be better spending her money on a self help book...How to Make Friends and Influence People or How NOT to offend her fellow females.

flowerofthewestx2 Sun 02-Jan-22 14:46:58

But is it our business to comment or judge

Farzanah Sun 02-Jan-22 14:51:09

I have lived long enough to take no notice when the style police tell me what older women look good in so I just wear what I please and feel comfortable in.
Similarly it’s sad that women of any age are constrained by unwritten, often misogynistic “rules”, and are judged by their physical appearance.
In some regimes the rules regarding women’s clothing and more overt and enforceable…………

How unpleasant! I am not referring to Lilian, but the nasty comments made to her about her post.
Are we seriously being told that none of the offended on this thread has ever seen someone and thought that if the person had an honest friend, or indeed a full length mirror, they might have chosen a different outfit? Has anyone ever been asked to pass an opinion on a friend's outfit, and found themselves only able to say 'It doesn't matter in the least what you look like - I'm saying nothing, just wear it - who cares?' How ridiculous would that be when most people do care what they look like and prefer to wear something that at least fits and looks reasonable. The conclusion must be that if we can't say, or even think it seems, that another person might look better and it really doesn't matter at all, we should walk into a shop, take any old thing off the rail and stuff ourselves into it, regardless. I thought the post was quite innocent, not insulting, and I hope Lilian isn't reeling around her house stung beyond measure by the reaction to comments that she is entitled to make as generalisations. Like everyone else, I've seen some sartorial disasters, and haven't felt any kind of sneeering satisfaction - just a thought that something a little more flattering might have been better. Just saying!

Lucca Sun 02-Jan-22 15:36:27

Hear hear Rosina. Some posters seem to think that Lillian or i for example say these comments to people, they are just passing thoughts ! Such perfect people on here who only ever have sweet thoughts….

Of course everyone should wear whatever they like, doesn’t mean I can’t have my opinion (kept to myself)

Somebody said there are more interesting things to look at ..not always, eg in a supermarket or a dull street ! And I like fashion,

SachaMac Sun 02-Jan-22 15:39:33

I preferred the boot leg jeans as they were more flattering on me, they seem to have gone out of fashion now. I tend to wear straight rather than the really skinny jeans. Per Una and Next have a good selection in various styles. I’ve also had some nice fitting jeans from Monsoon.

It’s good that people have the confidence to wear whatever they want and it’s not our place to judge. However, I’m sure we have all seen people dressed in things that really don’t suit them, especially when the weather gets really hot, that seems to bring out the worst in people’s fashion choices. Wear whatever you like, personally I prefer clothes that are comfy, suit my shape and are appropriate for the occasion. I can’t stand anything too tight or clingy, it’s good we all have different styles. Not everyone has a good sense of what suits them though and I’m sure we have all seen (or had) fashion disasters at some point.

nadateturbe Sun 02-Jan-22 15:40:26

Lucca and others are right. We all say that kind of thing sometimes, except those of us who are perfect. I like all styles- wide leg, straight, tight whatever. I used to love wearing dressy palazzo trousers to the orchestra or theatre, and I am quite small. I'm not sure about wide jeans though. I think they would be unflattering. Straight leg maybe are more flattering than tight.

Forsythia Sun 02-Jan-22 15:47:43

I like straight leg jeans (Sara style at BonMarche) and M&S leggings. I’m 66. Do they suit me, am I judged? I don’t care actually, as I like them and they’re comfortable. End of it!

KG1241 Sun 02-Jan-22 15:57:58

What about MOM jeans if you are really tall - do they look ok?

Audi10 Sun 02-Jan-22 16:07:07

Well for me I’m totally the opposite I can’t abide wide legged trousers, blooming flappy things too much material, but to be honest that’s me, I neither care or am interested in what type of fashion others wear! I’m more into the type of person and not what they are wearing,

what a nasty comment!

i was not offended by Lillians OP so you don't speak for this female.

Nanna58 Sun 02-Jan-22 16:24:02

Not been on GN for a while and the usual nasty jumping on the OP that I had forgotten was so rife has persuaded me to extend the vacation!

queenofsaanich69 Sun 02-Jan-22 16:28:02

Just this week my husband said”You have a lot of pairs of jeans”————I have many sizes, shapes and styles so can meet any occasion. My Mum used to comment on my backside but as I can’t see it I have never worried,as long as you have a smile on your face no one looks at your body.? HappyNew Year

Rosina Sun 02-Jan-22 16:46:28

Nanna58 There are some aggressive, confrontational and self righteous posters - just a few - who take pleasure in trying to provoke or insult, and if you absent yourself, they win. Even the most innocent comment can be twisted and used by those who want to make themselves feel powerful. Ignore them.

It should be possible to appreciate what suits a person (male or female) without having to worry about being PC about it. Certain styles don’t suit certain people - it’s as simple as that. I wear clothes that I’m comfortable in, but hopefully ones which suit me - and when you’re 5’0” that’s not easy!! ?

Yellowmellow Sun 02-Jan-22 17:14:18

Different strokes for different folks. If someone is happy with how they look in their jeans, so be it. I like jeans to fit well and my favourites are 'Not Your Daughters Jeans'

Bijou Sun 02-Jan-22 17:34:15

I have never worn jeans because I don’t like thick material for clothes and I am not keen on jeans on older women anyway. I am sure a lot of women don’t look at their backside in the mirror.

Bubbles71 Sun 02-Jan-22 17:45:19

Hithere

What a judgy thread - I hope you do not say this in public to anybody

If you do not like to look at legs that are not of your taste, do not look or get another route.

Please spare those women of your unneccessary and unrequested view of them

Women are supposed to support each other, not be our worst enemy

Hear hear!!

Taralou Sun 02-Jan-22 17:50:29

This the reason I never post. People on here are VERY judgemental and nasty. I will carry on looking only

Happysexagenarian Sun 02-Jan-22 17:54:36

Well I, for one, like wide leg (and straight leg) trousers. I'm a size 18 and 5'4". Frankly I look ridiculous in close fitting jeans, trousers, leggings or jeggings. A bit like a plump pear balanced on two cocktail sticks!

I like to be comfortable in my clothes and prefer loose fitting styles. I really don't care what other people think of how I dress, I dress for me not anyone else.

snowberryZ Sun 02-Jan-22 17:59:21

Just wear what suits you and what you feel good in.
And you will look good.
