Do you think the baggy, shapeless, oversized clothing trend is flattering?

Some clothing websites tell you the height of the model wearing the item and the size being worn........so often it’ll be a young woman of 5’8” or more, wearing a size 8 or 10. M&S being one of these.

Oh, yes.

You see something you like and send for it: Model is 5' 10" and a size 8; wishful thinking you will look the same. 5' 4 " and size 14 (well, more of a 16 if you're being honest).
You wear it out to a do
Then you see a photo of yourself wearing it, are mortified and put it in the bag for the charity shop the next day.

My DIL got married last week and she had concealed pockets in her wedding dress. A fabulous idea.

I expect she's young and not lumpy like me, Marydoll!
Congratulations to your DS and new DIL.

If I put anything in a pocket I'd just look more lumpy!

Lip balm and tissues.

When I was teaching, I always tried to buy dresses, with pockets. I could store lots of rubbish useful items in them.

My DIL got married last week and she had concealed pockets in her wedding dress. A fabulous idea.

I like some Gudrun clothes, but some of it is a bit too ‘folksy’ for me, I did buy a dress this year, but it isn’t very flattering to be honest, love the colours though.

Sometimes it’s interesting to chat with folks about what they wear though - might give one ideas, links to shops you didn’t know about, etc. It’s not about dictating what anyone else should wear. We all have our own ideas and tastes; we all have our own financial considerations - and we all do different activities with our time, so need different clothes.

I realise more and more that I m the poor relation on GN I ve never bought or even heard of any of the ‘names’ you all use but these are my baggy dungarees minus my head hahaha

Well, those look great! Did you buy or make them? I have never bought any of those pricy labels......so, I can assure you you’re not the poor relation. I don’t think I could bring myself to pay those amounts for a garment.

I've just read this thread and found it very interesting. I'm 5' 4" and a size 14 but I'm an apple shape, so I go for comfortable shift dresses. I love some of the pics on here, especially the sea green linen with the pockets (Tina, I think?). It was advertised a lot last year and I nearly bought it but in the end didn't. I also made the cocoon dress from the same pattern as on here but it came out huge and I had to take it in and turn it into a shift dress and then I never wore it anyway. I love the long, baggy linen outfits but I think you need to be tall to wear stuff like that. I'm not a body con type of person either. Carol Vorderman gets away with it but I would just feel uncomfortable - and hot.

Gudrun Sjoden’s stuff is certainly different - but a lot of it looks likes dressing up clothes to me!

Loose clothing can hide features one want to hide. The silhouette does not have to be that of a tent simply because garments conceal certain lumpy parts of the body.
