Do you think the baggy, shapeless, oversized clothing trend is flattering?

I think it looks terrible on most people.

What's the point of looking after your figure, only to hide it in swathes of loose oversized, droopy shapeless material?
Also, I've noticed that this particular look makes people look far bigger than they actually are.
It's a look that's only really flattering on the very slim and the very young, and even then it still doesn't look that great.
Its not going to look good on the average British woman.

Of course that's just my opinion.
What do you think?

Fanny are you really J-Lo?
I recognise that bum ?

That certainly is not my bum Tilly.
Mine is four times the size of that.

Will have a look at Sahara, thanks.

I have just googled Lydia Tomlinson.
Sorry Snowberry (not that you’ll mind) but I find that look so boring.
And she’s only 26!
She dresses like a very stylish, but rather uninspired, woman in her 60s.

Kate
I really like Sahara dresses, but I always have to go down at least a size, otherwise I look like I’m a child dressing up in my mothers clothes.
I bought a lovely cardigan from Plümo, even in a small size I can’t reach the pockets! Really doesn’t look good on me, but I kept it because it’s so nice. Haven’t actually worn it yet!

I’m a size 12/14 and I love some of the wider dresses but they don’t suit me. I think the linen ones on some of the pics on here have a great “summer look”.

The shape I prefer on me is a tulip shape at the hem like Grannygravy mentioned, with swathed fabric around the middle that disguises the tum area. I bought this one recently (not expensive). I would say this model is probably a size 8!

Interesting thread as I am about to return a beautiful very expensive dress, gorgeous fabric BUT just massive. A smaller size wouldn’t have made any difference. It fitted me but made me look far too big! The search continues….

Is that what's known as a Bubble Butt?wink

FannyCornforth Tue 15-Mar-22 08:55:59

I’m getting this add ?

VioletSky Tue 15-Mar-22 08:55:27

One of them I'd feel like I was walking around in my mums old nighties

snowberryZ Tue 15-Mar-22 08:52:33

Whereas this looks like a cheap mess

snowberryZ Tue 15-Mar-22 08:52:04

This is the sort of thing I like, I think it looks good and classy as well

Millie22 Tue 15-Mar-22 08:43:36

No

I'm too small for baggy stuff as I'd look like I was wearing a tent. Much prefer fitted clothes and maybe a sloppy jumper. The current trend is for long coats so def not for me.

Tina ?

Come on! smile

I can't find any one pic.
But I love Lydia Tomlinsons style/look even though she's a bit 100 years younger than me.

Slightly slouchy, clean colours, but structured at the same time?
I've never suited overly fussy dresses.

Each to their own.

Sara1954 Tue 15-Mar-22 08:37:41

Not only what suits you, but what style you feel comfortable in.
I may very well look better in a different style, but I wouldn’t feel better.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 15-Mar-22 08:37:24

I am short 5’2” I am either in skinny jeans with loose tops/jumpers or sweater/sweatshirt dresses in the winter, but come summer it’s flowing maxi/midi cotton dresses. I am a fan of the tulip shape dress.

JaneJudge Tue 15-Mar-22 08:36:49

Oh Tina flowers any specific or just life in general atm?

Tina49 Tue 15-Mar-22 08:34:19

This is such a trivial thread, but thank you. I woke up earlier feeling on the verge of tears. Good to have a trite distraction.

JaneJudge Tue 15-Mar-22 08:33:13

The pink dress is horrible but the rest look fine. I have some loose fitting dresses from <gasp> yours clothing that are quite loose with pockets, very plain and with a denim jacket and trainers they are ok for a pub lunch, walking the dog or doing a spot of gardening.

I like the first pic that Tina49 put up.

That’s from Woolovers. Pretty pricey (£65), but there was a discount code in an ad in last weeks Sundays supplements. We have a boutique shop locally that sells similar (cheaper), and a market stall.

Pittcity Tue 15-Mar-22 08:30:10

I like the baggy top with tighter trousers, leggings look.
If I'm wearing wide legged trousers my top is more fitted.

Yes. Re the ‘over size 16’.
I’m really big now (but I know I still look nice ?) but I would look pretty dreadful in anything that didn’t have an element of ‘droop’.

You need to work out what suits you

I really like the dresses in the above pics.
But, they are using very slim models.
Would those dresses look as effective and hang as nicely on a person size 16 and over?

OOPs! ? Even worse, a short size 16, like me! ?????
