How to shrink a straw hat?

Just that really. I've found a nice hat in a cupboard but it's too big. Would it shrink a little if I dampened it a bit?

Try and get some Hat Tape. If it gets too wet, it could swell.

Perhaps we could spend the day bombarding you with compliments, and see if your head will grow? smile

Excellent idea!

Aveline - I expect you will look beautiful in your hat

I'm sure Aveline has an exquisitely petite head. smile

How kind you all are! I actually have a massive napper due to a lifetime of glowing compliments! ( A likely story!!)
Anyway. I dont know whose hat it actually is. It might be one of my mother's but she didnt have a very big head. Its a mystery. DD has told me I must wear one for an event this pm so I was pleased to find it. If the worst comes to the worst I can balance it on the bridge of my nose and, fingers crossed, will be able to peer out at where I'm going!

I think if you dampen it and let it dry in the sun, it'll shrink.

The hat, not your head - we want more, not less of your bonnie bonce!

I don't think that straw will shrink.

How about tying a nice scarf round it? Or gluing a thickish pad of fabric on the inside.

I have a hat problem all the time as I have a small head and can never buy lovely sun hats off market stalls because they extinguish me...
