Has M&S lingerie lost the plot?

I've just been to M&S to top up my underwear and was horrified to find mountains of multipacks of bras - with colours that will surely end up in landfill. Not a navy bra to be had (my preferred go-to colour) Their 'new' high leg knickers - my standard for years - are made of the thinnest fabric going! I'm distraught. Where do you buy your underwear? I am in need of guidance to a new decent lingerie shop - after 69 year loyal M&S knicker wearing.

I've never found a problem in buying the full brief that I prefer from M&S. Admittedly I do prefer nude colour underwear. My most recent knickers purchase from them is Sloggi. I've also bought trousers and tops plus a blouse over the past couple of years, all stylish enough for me and well made. I also went to the website just now and found 40 bras in navy.

I found difficulty finding a bra when I last went shopping for one ( 32 c ). I have not bought pants for a while since I had sufficient. Now they seem to have disappeared - I must have a black hole in my house. I had 10 pairs and now I can only find 4!
I had problems trying to buy navy trousers. Short size have always fitted me. Now they are too long and the only ones I could find were thin and not navy

I went M&S to replenish my knickers, not having been to town for almost the two years of lockdown. Very disappointed to eventually find ' Midi knickers' I wear, only a few packs hidden away and only n black! Now the quest to find equally comfortable ones has begun!!

I haven’t bought M&S underwear fir many years now. I buy plain white high leg knicker packs in Sainsbury’s. I also buy Triumph Amourette bras online now that Debenhams has gone. Sometimes get them in John Lewis also.

CraftyGranny

i have been getting my Sloggi style knickers from Bon Marche lately. they are just as good as Sloggi but much less expensive.
I agree with M&S comments. No where near as good as they used to be. I tried on 5 bras last week, all the same size and all fitted differently. So I walked out with nothing!

I like Sloggi underwear for comfort but it is expensive. I will check out Bon Marche, I never thought to look at their underwear.

I am very impressed with M and S knickers called Flexifit high rise shorts. They are wonderful, comfy, a cuff around the top of the leg and made from modal, polyamide and spandex. The gusset is 100 cotton. Trousers just glide on over these lovely silky feel pants. They come in packs of 3. Love them.

Sloggi are good - but more expensive - they wear well

I have had Autograph bras that fell apart after a very few washes. I also have a bra which must be 15 years old that still hasn’t worn out, is very comfortable and soft fabric. The quality is really poor now I think. I bought the Joy bra and matching pants last year and they are really scratchy cotton. Where are their super soft socks now?

I like Sainsbury's clothes and have just looked at their underwear, which is much nicer than M&S. However I struggled with some sizing that seems to be in dress size rather than bra size.

I would need to visit a Sainsbury's with a large clothing department, which means a 20 mile journey, because I am quite small in size and cup size, and finding a choice of bras in my size has been a life time problem, so smaller stores are unlikely to stock it and I do not want to order underwear online as, I want to physically see whether i think the shape and size are right for me.

Recently bought M and S flexifit non wired bras which are soft and comfy plus the full briefs to match which are lovely.

Always got bras from M&S, recently broad strap and wired for ageing ample bosoms. They seem to have stopped doing them , in store or online.
Found the same style at Damart - very comfortable and a darned sight cheaper!!!

M and S sizing is absolutely hopeless; bought OH two pairsof identical shoes, one navy and one brown. Brown fitted, navy he couldn't get his foot in. I have to order two sizes if I buy from them - sometimes sizing up or down. As for bras, I have given up. Mine are becoming tatty but I simply cannot get a decent fit from M and S. I agree with GranJan - they keep trying to attract a customer age group that wouldn't go through the doors.

I’ve actually got some really nice ones from sainsburys and Tesco’s and they wash really well. So much so I’ve bought a few times now even for my grandkids and one of my daughter inlaws said she was shocked on quality for a supermarket In fact I’ve just tossed out some expensive ones because they were falling to bits after a few washers. I paid £18 for two pairs sainsburys I paid £6.50 for 5 stopped buying marks a while ago because of quality.

On the M&S app search for bras then filter the colour to Navy and you get the choice of 48 different navy coloured bras!

Treetops05 Wed 17-Aug-22 12:57:15

Thanks for the post, they still had my favourite t-shirt bra, previous one worn to death...and unavailable locally. In fact I was told it was discontinued, only to find it online. It also said they had 48 navy bras

GranJan60 Wed 17-Aug-22 12:32:21

M&S knickers are awful - so thin and don’t last. Not sustainable to keep buying.so often. If they have to be multipacks, put in less or charge a bit more for decent quality. Would be good to have more midi type ones in cotton or cotton blends too.
Have been loyal customer for years but shop less and less there now even though I’d like to - they don’t cater for older women but seem keen to attract younger customers who don’t shop there.

NotANana Wed 17-Aug-22 12:27:38

I have found that I buy a pack of knickers in M&S after much searching etc.
I wear them, and then decide to get some more because I like them. And can I remember what sort they were? High-leg...shorts...full...bikini...brazilian...Not A Clue.
(I think I'd notice if they were thongs...alas, my thong-wearing days are behind me in all senses)
The labels aren't any help, either.
So I start the whole rigmarole all over again.

I buy my bras from Sainsbury's, have done for several years now. They aren't expensive, fit well and last for ages.

AdeleJay Wed 17-Aug-22 12:19:14

I find M&S horribly frustrating. I like to buy a pretty set occasionally but they are very ‘tarty’ looking in my opinion. Have zero idea what to use for everyday. Their plain packs of bras always have white or pale beige which look grubby so quickly. And the knickers are just the luck of the draw

Linda65 Wed 17-Aug-22 12:17:14

Can I also add that M&S use Evri who used to be Hermes for their deliveries and my friends and neighbours have been experiencing a lot of issues. Apparently this is not an isolated experience if the reviews are to be believed!

Linda65 Wed 17-Aug-22 12:14:04

As I am very curvy I bought my last bra from bravissimo and they have a great selection. John Lewis not too bad and you can find some that are not expensive. I gave up on M&S a while ago as the sizings were strange!!

Bijou Wed 17-Aug-22 12:10:40

Being housebound I have no choice but buy on line. For many years I have bought underwear etc from Ambrose Wilson. The last pack of panties the trim started to unravel, I found some similar ones, cheaper, on Amazon and they have lasted longer.

Dinahmo Wed 17-Aug-22 12:06:30

I recently bought two new bras from M & S in a larger size. When I put one on it felt just like the smaller size so I compared new and old and they were the same measurement.
Annoying.

widgeon3 Wed 17-Aug-22 12:02:46

Two or three years ago I bought some underpants from M&S for my husband. He complained that the only way they felt comfortable was by wearing them back to front.... none of the previous brands he liked seemed to be available

Try EBay for m&s returned items!
