Thank you all for the most helpful information. I still rest amazed how many boots for people with wider feet have buckles on (probably to address the calf issue) which are hopeless for an inveterate leg crosser such as me. I ruin tights!?!

Try JD WILLIAMS online they do wide fittings in feet and wider calf ,my late MIL used to get hers from them

Apparently the phrase is "anatomical toe box".

I have narrow/average width feet but with widely spread toes. The toe boxes of even those at widerfitshoes look too narrow just where the width is needed. The shape is just wrong. My big toes don't bend inwards except at the very tip.

I go for Groundies and/or Birkenstock whose soles are the same shape as my feet and have a straight inner edge for the big toe.

I wish I could find boots with wider calves. I have had much embarrassment trying to get too tight ones off so rarely try them on now.

There's a company that specialises in having a range of calf sizes - I've had lovely boots from them and although dear they last .....for more than 10 years so far 😁

I second the suggestion of www.widerfitshoes.co.uk/ Lots of different styles, and fittings go from E up to EEEEEEEE.

My daughter gets wider fit from Evans Womens clothing store
They have quite a large selection
Gabor is my go to brand although I had to return the last pair as they were not as wide
Marco Tozzi are also quite generous although I am not sure about full length boots as I only wear ankle style

I buy mine from Pavers

I was going to suggest Gabor as well, I have the opposite problem very narrow feet and definitely a 4 and a half. Gabor sometimes does half sizes and standard and wide fitting.

Also Clarks

There’s Pavers. I think they may have a sale on as well.

Try Gabor.

I struggle every year to find knee high boots preferably with a 1.5 in heel for my size 5 wide feet. My preferred suppliers Hotter & M&S insist on putting buckles on wide fitting boots. I am a leg crosser so ruin tights when wearing this type of boots. Can anyone recommend a better supplier?
