Oh no, Joules is one of my favourites.

I like my horizontal stripes.

However, my Joules thin waterproof leaked.

Interesting Fanny. I hadn't considered that, although I feel that diagonal stripes might be even better?

I don't wear stripes much, to be honest.

FannyCornforth Tue 15-Nov-22 12:13:02

No, the horizontal stripes = unflattering is a widely held misconception.
It’s actually vertical stripes that make you look wider, especially if they ‘bend’ due to your curves

Horizontal stripes aren't actually flattering to many figures though, are they, unless skinny. I still have my Trinny and Susannah book that says so (Pre Joules haha)

I always like the look of Joules shops and advertising, but wenever I actual go in one to look for clothes the stock is always very limited and, in my eyes, dull and uninteresting.

One can never have too many stripy tops! I’m wearing one now but it’s Lazy Jacks, not Joules.

I am wearing one too ........ but it's from Tu at Sainsburys. I love their clothes smile

I have bought doggie tops from Joule but dislike patterned clothing and anorak type stuff so give it a miss for myself. Mind you, I also dislike Cath Kidson and Emma Bridgwater (too fussy and flowery). I like flowers in a bowl not all over my body.

Yes to striped tops👍

Although having lived in Brittany for many years I know that French do buy striped tops, especially in Summer. Look at the number of branches of just one such shop mainly coastal I admit, but not all touristy.
Maybe that's why I like them.

Yes they do! It’s a staple in the summer.
I’m still wearing my striped top bought in the 70s in Brittany.

I've got my trusty mid season mac and a hoody that I bought in TK Maxx. Otherwise I prefer Seasalt.

BigBertha1 Mon 14-Nov-22 22:43:08

Haven't bought anything there in years just a sucsession of stripey tops. Definitely stuck in a rut.

NotSpaghetti Mon 14-Nov-22 22:41:24

Apologies Urmstongran I see this isn't happening after all.

SachaMac Mon 14-Nov-22 22:21:57

I have a couple of really nice Joules coats and love their leather boots but I’ve been disappointed with a couple of dresses that shrunk rather a lot in the first wash. I noticed when reading reviews that there are quite a few complaints about quality now.

Thank you J52. I shall try and track a ticket down.

lixy Mon 14-Nov-22 19:44:53

Very sad about this - they have been great for children's clothes.
I have a couple of stripy tops that have been going for a few years now, and I shall miss their 3/4 sleeves as I find those practical.

Passthechocolates Mon 14-Nov-22 19:44:05

Or should I say ‘their own’ in case anyone notices grin

Passthechocolates Mon 14-Nov-22 19:41:50

Love Joules and have loads of stripey/flowery T shirts I think they look great … each to there own I suppose.

OnwardandUpward Mon 14-Nov-22 19:35:01

I do like stripes- and I like flowers, but separately rather than the Joules stripe and flower combo that guarantees you'll match every other woman.

I don't think stripes will ever lose popularity, but they don't have to be navy and white. I suppose there is a safety in wearing a kind of Mum uniform, though.

Agreed, they do. Striped tops are still very popular, and not just by the seaside.

Ninanana Mon 14-Nov-22 19:27:32

Not surprised. They are frumpy and overpriced.

Ah, I understand.

Oh we miss Joules Yard, used to go for Sunday Lunch and music.

A bit selfish, but will go in next week and see if I can buy a couple of bargains.

Oh, you’re visiting the UK at the moment then?
Good opportunity to stock up!

Joseanne Mon 14-Nov-22 18:48:46

Joseanne that is just the point, the French do not wear striped tops, only English tourists wear them because they think they will be able pass as French people.

Striped tops were originally work clothes worn by Breton fishermen.

Sorry, Monica, it was a bit of a joke. Like half of Germany wear Lederhosen or lots of Scottish people wear kilts!

henetha Mon 14-Nov-22 18:38:14

I like some of joules clothes but they are a little pricey in my opinion. However I hope they recover for the sake of the staff.
