Does anyone influence what you wear?

I always used to ask my daughter's advice when she lived at home (and was quite little! ) but I wear what I hope suits me now!

no one, i decide what i want to wear regardless of what anyone thinks, i always wear straight leg jogging trousers with a nice top or cardigan and have only worn a skirt 3 times in the last five years for funerals, i may not have thought or liked what someone else is wearing but i would never comment as it is there choice. wear what you feel comfortable in.

My five year old granddaughter. She gives me a very withering look when she doesn’t approve - reminds me of my mother!

Lol that’s so funny mums of sons don’t dress as well.. as a mum of sons I think you need to get out more. Both my daughter inlaws mums have asked me to go shopping with them for clothes as they say I seem to get it right on what to wear. Daughters don’t always get it right

My post actually did say it was my friend who believed that mothers of sons don’t dress as well. It’s lovely that people your own age admire the way you dress.

No, and certainly not my daughter. She's 39, very petite and goes for what I'd describe as a mumsy look (she isn't a mum though). I'm 64, quite tall & size 14, I like really bright colours & modern styles. My favourite make at the moment is Orientique, an Australian brand with some fabulous bold designs. DH loves the things I wear.

I've always chosen my own clothes. My DD dresses completely different to me so I wouldn't want her advice. I tend to live in black cord or velour trousers in winter with a jumper, or a smart blouse if we're going out. Summer I wear linen mix 3/4 trousers, skirts or dresses knee length or midi. Often with an overshirt as a cover up from the sun.

No, I wear what I want when I want. One of the advantages of age. I couldn’t give a flying you know what what people think.

I do like what Pru Leith wears, especially her glasses. Also Gloria Hunniford’s OTT jackets and necklaces. Mary Berry doesn’t fade into the background either. I don’t have a daughter. Mum and sister weren’t the working kind so used to go through my wardrobe whilst I was at work. Wearing whatever they fancied. On a Saturday I would hit the Southend high street and once bought black cord jeans covered in gold diagonal zips. On Monday they were queuing outside the boutique. Worst of all on a night out they would tell strangers how I had copied them. My husband took me to a shop in a tiny Spanish village where we lived in our fifties and suggested the beige crimplene was more suitable for my age! Hmmh. I have decided for myself I want to tone down the bling. I will decide when the time is right and what to wear. I do have a DIL who popped in today and we wear similar understated clothes and I so admired her shapely leggings today and she said, oh these old things, as we do.

This is me! My pets don’t care what I wear and I’m pretty close to not giving a care myself.

I choose what I wear but, if on the rare occasion that my husband comes shopping, he chooses things for me that his mother would wear. Needless to say he’s not invited very often.

I mix and match to put an outfit together which I feel comfortable wearing. Nothing to do with what is fashionable or not. I’m not influenced by anyone in particular but if a see anyone wearing something I like, I would try that look.

Same here Marydoll. DD1 is the same size as me and often ‘borrows’. Visiting her last week, I followed her upstairs to see a new pair of trousers she had bought. Looking around her stash of clothes, I pointed out some lovely pieces she had….they were mine! And she didn’t even blush.

Being vertically challenged and round, does limit my choice somewhat.

Serendipity what about the range of choices in the shops, doesn't that mean that you need to limit your choice to whaat is avalable, doesn't that mean that you are influenced by what is available.

And as I have asked before does that mean that if your preferred dress was full 18th century court wear, or dressing at all times in a sheet and army blanket, that is what you would wear, inside and out, regardless of how people reacted to you?

If I'm buying/dressing for a special occasion then I'd ask my daughter's opinion, as she'd always give an honest opinion. For every day clothes I please myself
