I agree but think the gap of ageing evidence narrows the older you get🥴
Good Morning Tuesday 23rd June 2026
Trump has only been in office 4 days
Joanna Lumley has said more than once she cuts and dyes her own hair and just uses Astral as her face cream. I wonder what hair colour she uses, does anyone know, plus even hairdressers don’t cut their own hair so how does she do it? When I tried Astral cream I thought how thick it was, that it didn’t sink in and left my skin greasy looking.
I don’t know why I started thinking about it, but it is annoying how she looks so good with so little maintenance. Wish I did.
I agree but think the gap of ageing evidence narrows the older you get🥴
I like Joanna Lumley and I like her hair. I think it suits her.
Regarding skincare my Mum lived to nearly 97 and had beautiful, pale skin with hardly a wrinkle. Everybody commented on her lovely skin and hair so I am hoping I go the same way!
She never smoke or drank, ate a very healthy homegrown diet, liked being outside doing jobs and used just Pond’s skincream in a little white jar with pink writing. She never went abroad and never sunbathed and I think that had a lot to do with it. A neighbour lived in Ibiza during her hippy years and sunbathed all the time and her skin is sadly like a piece of leather.
Just like when Fiona Fullerton appeared in a posh magazine wearing overalls holding a paintbrush saying she has just redecorated her swanky London apartment.... which my company decorated and she even knocked us by not not paying the full amount! wonder how much the mag paid her for the 'exclusive' ?!? lots more than she paid us I imagine!!!
Try nivea it's lovely on your skin xx
I went to school with JL. Her hair is naturally very curly, and she straightens it. The colour when I knew her was dark mouse. I think by now she would be grey haired, as her mother was and her sister is.

I think good skin (no wrinkles) is a lot to do with genes. I use any cream that’s on offer and mine isn’t too bad, like Mum’s. I can well believe JL cuts and colours her own hair but she looks good anyway. I always like her clothes which she says are ancient!
I think you're right about the genes, but it's also age! My skin has aged over this last year, once I reached 70. I think there's a lot of truth in the idea that things change when you reach "three score years and ten"!

I'm wondering why I'd never investigated Astral before, just a product I'd passed by in Boots, now given the testaments here, I think I'll give it a go.
On the subject of Boots and skin products, and slightly off topic from Joanna's hair, there was an article in The Times Weekend magazine yesterday reviewing the new "miracle" serum, "Damage Reversal" launched by No 7 which crashed their website allegedly. The reviewers conclusion "for once this justifies the hullabaloo surrounding it" So I'll be hotfooting it down to Boots in the next week to see if they have still in store and pick up a jar of Astral at the same time!.
I ordered some of the magic products, 3 for 2 and other reductions last week. This morning my order arrived and they've bunged in an extra bottle of the serum, no mention of this so I guess it was a lucky mistake!
I'm sure she does do her own hair, but when she's on the TV I'm equally sure that there are hairdressers to sort her out and re-do anything that needs doing. After all, most of us do our own hair between visits to the hairdresser but that doesn't mean we don't go at all!
JL seems so unpretentious - that's what I like about her. She seems like fun, is interested in everything, and looks wonderful. I do believe what she says about her hair - it is too ordinary to have been in the hands of stylist, but with looks like hers you can get away with anything on your head.

My sister got that 'miracle serum' from Boots yesterday. She said they had loads of it and no one grabbing it despite press reports of queuing.
I am fortunate that at nearly 74, I have no wrinkles on my face. My arms however could definitely do with a miracle.
My arms look not too bad in a certain position, it's just remembering which one is the problem!
Sleeves are wonderful. 😁
So sorry to hear that Kate1949. 💐
Wel Kalu Lucky is not a word I would use to describe myself! Lost my teeth, my hair as mentioned many times. However, I have always tried to look after my skin so that I have at least something going for me. I have used Oil of Ulay beauty fluid for as long as I can remember.
Thanks for the heads up on the Nuetrogena Hydroboost pascal 130, although I've managed to escape being wrinkled of face, sometimes it does startle me when I notice there are a few on my neck. I have also noticed my eyes disappearing into my head somewhat, remembering they were larger in my youth. However, whilst we can't push back on the effects of the passage of time, if there's anything out there to alleviate it somewhat, I'll give it a go. My mission next week will be to look out for these various recommendations on a visit to Boots.

Lucky you, no facial wrinkles.
My whole body would benefit from a spray starch and intense ironing.
Now there’s good business idea. Adjoining body ironing/spray tan/ makeup artist salon for those special occasions. 😂
I read many years ago that actresses can claim tax rebates for beauty products used when they perform, so in interviews they always say they only use the most basic of products: cold cream, touch of lip gloss, wash their hair in detergent and trim it themselves. As if!
Don't know if the same applies to actors.
There’s a programme on Channel 5, 9pm, tonight, Sunday, Joanna Lumley talking about her life.
We can all have another look at her hair and face.

I recently found Neutrogena Hydroboost for droopy eyelids, and rather to my surprise after having used it for a week I can actually see some difference. I think I'll also have a look at Damage Reversal..

My DD has been on TV taking part in various shows and does say that the make up people can work wonders with both hair and face and I can vouch for that as she is not someone who spends a lot of time in front of a mirror!! She did a show when covid rules were being relaxed a bit but had to more or less do her own thing due to a big reduction in staffing numbers.
My mum always used Astral every night taking off her foundation she never had a wrinkle and her skin was like a babies bottom until the day she sadly died.
JL has always been an inspiration from her Purdy cut to date she always looks good.
And I bet good quality cleaners and serums et not just Astral
She may use Astral occasionally to make sure she's not fibbing 😀 but such thick creams can easily 'drag' the skin and cause more problems.
Oh..and her teeth are fab. That doesn't come cheaply unless you are incredibly fortunate
Ab Fab 😁
I cut my hair during lockdown it was fine.
My Dh put 'nice and easy' colour on also during lockdown and now has got the the job permanently.
I have always cut my fringe as I am very fussy re the length.
I was agreat fan of the Purdy cut back in the day.
