Joanna Lumley has said more than once she cuts and dyes her own hair and just uses Astral as her face cream. I wonder what hair colour she uses, does anyone know, plus even hairdressers don’t cut their own hair so how does she do it? When I tried Astral cream I thought how thick it was, that it didn’t sink in and left my skin greasy looking.
I don’t know why I started thinking about it, but it is annoying how she looks so good with so little maintenance. Wish I did.

How does anyone manage to cut the BACK of their hair!

I also love Joanna Lumley. She’s self deprecating and has a brilliant sense of humour. Love her looks and figure and she’s been round long enough not to be too bothered what people think of her. Very classy and clever lady with a very interesting past. I loved her as Patsy in Ab Fab she really made the character her own.

Absolutely this!

An oldish thread, but had to add that my hair is purple!

She stayed with me many years ago whilst on a diplomatic posting. Genuine lovely person. She persuaded me to get shorter hair as my hair is so fine ! I am sure is she says she cuts and colours her hair it is true

effalump a salon owner they interviewed on the news tonight said that hair colour had gone up a lot in price. I think I might have to do my own in future.

I so enjoyed the recent documentary on her.. what a legend..

The last time I went to a hairdressers for a cut and colour, it cost me £85. That was over 5 years ago. Since then I cut my own hair using dressmaking scissors, a wall mirror and and magnifying hand mirror. Apart from the odd occasion when I've hacked a bit more off than I intended to, it generally looks OK. I have no formal training but I cut my moms hair for decades and I used to pay attention when I did go the hairdressers in the past.

Lumleyness is actually a word.

IF you color, stay light. Didn’t say you should change your natural color. Lucky girl, you, to have your natural hair shade still. But you’d probably look good in purple. Sounds like you really want it.

But it's brown and unruly, Gundy 😁
I can recommend Argan oil to Joanna though.

Perhaps I'll go for lowlights, if I can be bothered.;

I do love everything about Joanna Lumley. She is beautiful brainy and an ambassador for all things good.
I’m not sure about the Astral cream… I maybe wrong. She looks good enough to eat, but I think some good doctor has helped her keep those fab looks… and why not? Just keep being absolutely fabulous Joanna - we adore you!

During lockdown I cut any own hair, it wasn't too difficult, my DH didn't criticise it too much so it must have been OK.
Gave up colouring my hair when my body started acting too old. But, yes, Joanna's hair could do with more body and shine.

• if you color, select proper shade for your skin tone - and stay LIGHT as you age (that’s a must!)

Oh dear, mine's naturally very dark.
Should I bleach it? (purple, I want purple)

I have cut and sometimes coloured my own hair since 1963 after a bad experience with a hairdresser.
Was advised by a doctor that Nivea was the best cream.

At our age, less is more:
• a good haircut, whether you color or not
• if you color, select proper shade for your skin tone - and stay LIGHT as you age (that’s a must!)
• if you cut your hair (I have for the last 35 yrs) - Hooray!! You’re saving LOTS of money $$$
• a good moisturizer with sunscreen
• minimal makeup, perhaps three products to accentuate your best features
• don't overeat, but enough nutrients, proteins, vitamins/minerals
• drinks LOTS of water for body hydration and functionality, plus brain health
• sleep… what can I say. More is better
• treat yourself once in a while (have that piece of pie!) You’ve earned it.
• if you are able - walking, stretching, yoga (work off that pie!)
• be kind to others 💕 and all animals
These few things are fundamentals for good mental health and caring for your tender body.
I don’t know who Joanna Lumley is but she sounds lovely and a force positive for women. Will have to Google her.
Cheers!

All her holidays are paid for, her clothes are old, she does her own, hair and make up plus nails, Someone is going to be very rich on her frugality. She does have two homes but her husband is successful in his own career.

During lockdown, I started cutting my own hair after watching a YouTube video. I've just kept on doing it, as hairdressers are so expensive these days. Nobody seems to notice that it's cut at home! (I did buy a proper pair of hairdressing scissors though!)
As for JL, while her hair sometimes does look like it's home dyed, on occasion it looks fab, so I deffo think she gets it done in a salon sometimes. I also bet she used very expensive face creams alongside the Astral!

Kalu you mentioned HM. Saw her recently on a chat show and she looked awful. Certainly wouldn't recommend her plastic surgeon!

I read somewhere that she said she also does her own nails cause she’s too mean to go to a salon! I do love her attitude to life.

HannahLoisLuke Mon 17-Apr-23 13:44:05

I agree with others about JLs hair. It looks so dry and straw like that I believe she cuts and colours it herself. She needs to get a professional to give it a proper deep conditioning, cut and colour. Otherwise she looks fabulous.
