I buy jeans and other trousers there as I have long legs. After advice to wear non-wired bra’s I get theirs, very comfortable, the occasional jumper and t shirt, often in the sales. I’ve had some M&S shirts for years, cotton or part linen, they wash well.
Same arrangement as you maddyone with the foodhall, always a temptation to walk through!

M & S knickers why can’t they leave well alone?
(35 Posts)Why do they have to keep changing things? I have been wearing their midi pants for years. Nice quality, nice designs, comfortable, wash well. buy 3 get 4th free. They used to come in plain colours with a wide lace insert at legs. They were called supersoft or something.
A couple of years ago they kept the style but changed to patterns. No problem. Went in today, no midis. Found an assistant who said they are now called high rise shorts. Boring colours but she assured me sizing was the same.
The lady on the till listened to me when I told her I was very disappointed that they have to keep changing things and she said “if I had a pound for every lady who has been in and said they want the midis back I would be a rich lady but they don’t listen to us.” I came home and measured them against my midis and they are considerably smaller so no good at all. It’s a 40 mile round trip for me to return them and I do expect they will charge me postage if I have to return them online which isn’t fair.
It used to be the case that M & S listened to what customers and staff said but apparently no longer. Mind you I think their standards have dropped throughout the store. We bought lunch in there and the girl taking our order was chewing gum the whole time we spoke. another older member of staff was clearing tables and looked dreadful with huge, ugly tattoos all over her bare legs. Disappointed with my shopping trip today.
I really liked their flexifit pants which were such a good fit, first they changed them, then they disappeared altogether. Very disappointing.
My daughter was with me yesterday and she bought Period Pants. 3 pairs for £18. She bought 6 pairs. She was talking to the young woman on the till about them who said she had totally converted to them.
For those who don’t know they have a padded lining which absorbs blood rather than using pads. You just wash them as normal. She tried them on when we got home and said they are very comfy and well made. They do various ones for light, medium and heavy days.

I haven't bought clothing of any description in M&S for years now. They are now a pale shadow of the company which was once such a popular choice for underwear, knitwear, school uniform items et al. I stopped buying there when it became clear that both quality and durability were suffering, yet prices remained the same. As for knickers, I'm a big fan of Sloggis. Yes, they're expensive, but keep an eye out for special offers. e.g. multi-buy savings. Comfort, quality, and durability.. you get what you pay for.

And me.
M&S were unique and 'reliable'.
They lost their uniqueness and reliability when they - inevitably I suppose - wanted to expand their 'market share'. And became just another store where you could by clothes.

I'm surprised Dickens about trying to appeal to a younger clientele.
We are getting older but will always need underwear.
My gripe is the trousers with tiny pockets and a bit short in the leg.
I'm average height so don't go for long leg but perhaps I should!
Seems to me the styles change for the sake of change and the say so of a young designer straight out of college who needs to make an impression. Why listen to us?

Maybe there's not enough profit in underwear for our age group - but you're right, we do need it and many in our demographic can well afford to splash out on it!

I have the same problem - but, the long leg according to a friend of mine (same height) is always too long. Try first.
I buy most of my underwear from M+S. I like the high rise shorts, they fit me well. I also own quite a few bras from M+S and so long as I try them on and can check they fit properly, I like them. I also have some Delimira bras from Amazon. I tied ordering one and found them to be good quality and a good fit for me.
I order things from M+S and they are delivered to my local M+S foodhall and if returning, take them back in the delivery bag and return through the foodhall. Very convenient, and no charge.
Some years ago a lady shareholder of a certain age and size stood up at the annual meeting to complain about the lack of attractive underwear for older, larger ladies. Her speech caught the attention of the press; M &S listened, and expanded (literally) their range, to great acclaim.
Nowadays, they ignore their customers and are drive solely by balance sheets; the strategy isn't working and their clothes section is shrinking, possibly to disappear for ever.

I must have a dozen pairs of M & S Jeans, different styles, different colours along with their denim shorts. Really good fit, wash well and have kept their colours
Have lots of their T shirts and some linen shirts for every day wear, again they wash, iron and wear well.
M & S gym wear (including sports bras) are reasonably priced and so comfy.
Cannot comment on their underwear as I buy elsewhere.
I've gradually replaced all my M&S knickers with Sloggi which are so much better. Expensive, but I did it gradually. I have Sloggi in various colours too.
Here’s an idea of what’s on eBay.

When M&S end a line EBay sellers buy up this stock. There are some real bargains.
I always look there first.
Totally wonderful bra from M n S....not to everyones taste but most comfy ever....just enter in search engine
Flexifit™ Non Wired Crop Top
An yet another so frustrated by non midi's, as the shorts style do not fit the same. I have gone to Amazon and was delighted to find the ideal midi comfy and pretty - lots of choice if you search in there.
Sloggi do a good midi knicker but just white.
Hope M n S see sense and return to a midi range.

I believe the 'problem' with M&S is that it's attempting to attract shoppers from all demographics and age groups. There's not enough money to be made from focusing on its previous core demographic.
I used to shop there regularly in the late 60s early 70s - the quality and durability of their clothing was exemplary.
Then I moved abroad. On one of my return visits to the UK I bought some sweaters and trousers. They didn't stand up to the (gentle) wash programme. They were just poor quality (made cheaply in Asia).
I've never set foot in their clothing department since.
I always buy knickers and bras from M & S and have no complaints.
I get measured at M & S for my bra (as I'm on a fairly strict diet so my bra size keeps changing) and I use the same lady to measure me who's measured me for over 20 years now.
Bought a pack of M&S knickers in April, they said the were all the same size, but they weren't. Some pairs were clearly bigger than others, some smaller. Some went in the bin.
Totally agree. I stopped buying underwear in M&S many many years ago. The quality of the cotton packs of high leg knickers deteriorated very quickly. The went grey in the wash. As for their bras, I used to always buy them then could not get a single bra to fit me. This was over 20 years ago.
I buy knickers in Sainsbury’s. I buy my bras from Triumph.
Hardly ever buy any clothing either also for many years.
I'm with LR on this. Even though Sloggis are initially more expensive (less so buy 3 get one free) they last ad infinitum. Ditto Triumph Doreen.
Thanks fancythat.
Which bra fancythat?
I dont doubt what everyone is saying. I feel for you.
But for me, I found their bra change better. No wire now.
I end up keeping buying prodominately the same sort no matter how many years pass, and how many styles I try on, with and without a bra fitting person.
But this last time, it has no wire. And is better than it was. The bra fitting person said the style I choose is always their best seller. Which is why I can keep buying it. And she said that they have redesigned it now, with a lot of thought and expertise.
Just thought I ought to mention it.
