I’m thinking I’m too old to wear them ( legs aren’t what they used to be grin ) but in the lovely weather I don’t always want to cover up with long floaty dresses.
Funnily enough, I wouldn’t think twice about wearing shorts on holiday.
Just a bit self conscious I guess?

I am looking at clothes in white stuff and fatface for my 98yr old DMiL.
Not shorts at the moment but tops and dresses.

I do as I think they can look quite smart along with cut off trousers and dresses. Not all at the same time 😀

I still have a decent pair of pins not changed much since I was 30 apart from the knees not quite so perfect.

Yes I have several pairs M&S describe them as pleat fronted so they do look like a short skirt but as I am only 5'2 they come about 4 inches above the knee. I tend to wear them mostly when on holiday but would happily wear them at home too.
My DH will wear shorts all summer he has lymphadema and shorts are much more comfortable. He rarely will put on trousers for any situation in summer.

No way. Never have, not since school PE.
In summer my problem is my feet don’t like being without socks, and ever since I had plantar fasciitis I wear supportive shoes or trainers, with sandals only for a smarter occasion.

I’m on hols in the Kimberleys and everyone is wearing shorts, male and female. Age range 60-80. Mind you, it is 35 C as per usual here in their winter. Not looking forward to going back to chilly Melbourne!

Yes. We usually have very warm summers here in New Zealand and my legs, after many years of ballet training, are probably my best feature. I wear them at home and in the garden, not in the supermarket.

Ive necver worn shorts since I was a young kid. Even as a young woman when I had a good figure I never wore them.

Im now one of the floaty dress brigade and tend to wear long loose kaftan style dresses the year round. When its cold you can layer up underneath with t-shirts and sweaters and joggers and when its warm you dont need anything underneath!

Not shorts I wouldn’t put other people through it my legs are full of veins. I wear cropped jeans when very hot but even that is pushing it.

TwiceAsNice Sat 27-May-23 21:59:58

Yes I have two pairs of linen shorts in different colours the length half way between knee and thigh. Not boasting but I have slim quite long legs and no problem veins so think I look fine and I just wear whatever I like basically . I wear cropped linen and cotton trousers too but am happy in shorts in hot weather . I’m wearing some now

I wore hot pants to work in the 70s but haven't worn shorts anywhere for years now. My legs are far too shapeless now. In the hot weather I either wear wide legged linen trousers or long skirts.

sodapop Sat 27-May-23 20:00:44

No shorts for me either now, one leg is perfectly fine but the other is full of knobbly bits and purple veins. Wouldn't want to inflict that on the population at large. smile

Oh yeah! Dove self tan is your friend for sure.

Oreo Sat 27-May-23 19:55:01

I do wear longish shorts also culottes ( not sure of spelling) as I have a dressmaking friend who makes them.

Redrobin51 Sat 27-May-23 19:53:37

Yes got them on at the moment. I actuate 4 pairs a nice M &S PAIR I've had for a few years that are a bit dresser and come to just above the knee. Two pairs of shirt, shorts very lightweight which I tend to just wear around the house and garden when the weather is really hot and the denim pair which are mid things and very comfy from Asda. At the beginning of the warmer weather I make sure my legs are shaved and moisturised twice a day and I put a thin layer of Dove self tan on for about a week then apply it weekly. It not only moisturises but just gives you a very natural light brown and really improves the look of the legs.

Bluddy nora, are you kidding me,
I wore shorts in juniors and now only wear clothing down to my ankles.
I have hated my legs since someone told me when i was 14 that i had footballers legs, being female,i was devastated.

Forget that awful person saying that to you😡
You wear what you want girl!

karmalady Sat 27-May-23 19:52:17

I wore a skirt today, just for relaxing in the sun for a couple of hours, now my lower legs are sunburnt and stinging. Back to trousers

GrandmaKT Sat 27-May-23 19:52:00

I got up this morning and put a pair of shorts and t shirt on, intending to do some gardening and wash the car. Then DH said he was going for a walk along the sea front before breakfast and did I want to come? I was about to say "I'll have to get changed" when I thought "sod it" and went as I was. I wasn't arrested, nobody died, or even batted an eyelid...

henetha Sat 27-May-23 19:46:00

Not any more. My knees are horrible to behold. I do wear cropped trousers though.

J52 Sat 27-May-23 19:45:09

Yes knee length and only for casual wear. Fortunately I don’t have any veins showing.

Bella23 Sat 27-May-23 19:33:11

I were linen or chino-type Bermuda shorts when abroad, at home 7/8 or capri. I also like straight linen skirts when I can get them.
My legs are fine from just above the knee downwards but I look like a lollypop on a stick with shorter shorts, no bottom but my tummy is so big.

Chardy Sat 27-May-23 19:32:44

I live near the sea, so yes, I wear shorts just above the knee.
If I'm meeting up with friends, skirts (some of which are marginally longer than the shorts)

Grammaretto Sat 27-May-23 19:23:16

It has to be hot. I wore them in France last year but I also have loose cotton below the knee trousers which I find more comfortable. Are these cropped?
I don't know the terminology.

Today at the fair in our town, young teenage girls were practically naked and grown old men in shorts.
Not many older women though.
What struck me was how many beer bellies and overweight people of all ages there were which made me rather sad .
It isn't healthy.

fancythat Sat 27-May-23 19:03:36

Yes. Wearing them right now.
