BE WARNED - M&S account holders

I am absolutely furious.
It seems that anyone can order something in store, to be collected in store, and when asked if they’re an account holder can say ‘No’ but x is and it will get put on x’s account.
I had an email to say that something had been purchased on my account, I was charged for it, to be collected from a local M&S.
It wasn’t me.
I phoned M&S who couldn’t explain how this had happened, refunded my money and cancelled the order. They advised me I had possibly been hacked and to tell my bank. The bank have cancelled my cards and will put a note on my account.
It seems that anyone who knows someone who has an M&S account can do this, all they need to say is that they don’t have an account but x does.
I am absolutely furious as well as having to spend several hours making numerous phone calls to try and sort this out.
I have closed my M&S account and deleted most of my saved passwords as suggested by the bank fraud department.
Be warned.
I await a response to my email to M&S HQ.

Absolutely nothing in the OP makes any sense, sorry

It certainly doesn’t. Nor her allegation that her husband told the cashier that his daughter had an M&S card and that resulted in the daughter being charged for the purchase.

As I understand it, the daughter wasn’t charged, he paid in the store. There was no reason for a third party’s account to be involved, only the purchaser’s contact details were relevant, but there was some sort of confusion and the daughter was emailed with the details of the transaction.

The daughter could only have been emailed if her father knew her email address, and provided it to the M & S employee who was not adhering to M & S terms and conditions.

Frankly, none of it makes sense.

GG13, it depends how the conversation went between customer and staff-member.

Not at all

If my DD went into a store and ordered something and subsequently asked do you have an account, her answer would be no.
If the staff member went ok to ask do you know anyone who does, her reply would be why is that relevant to my otder

You’re right, it wasn’t relevant, especially as payment had been made, but we don’t know what was said, we only have a rather confused second hand report.

I’m impressed that the husband knew the daughter’s email address.

I must admit to being really confused here
You and me both, Marydoll
