I once owned a pair of black patent, six inch stilleto heels, when I was newly married. I loved those shoes!
Now, I'm permanently in flats. 🤭
Your Smartphone may be overheating!!! Keep an eye out.
Can I ask you which sites/shops you use for fashion and styling inspiration? So many sites for "older women" are aimed at 50yrs, even Gransnet does this. It's 20 yrs since I was 50 and I am in need of a new look. Any suggestions ?

I never wore high heels or low tops, let alone very low tops. I would still wear a miniskirt, but over leggings.

^No age related sartorial changes^
Whilst broadly agreeing with you, Norah, I guess there are some clothes that are inevitable age related - high heels, mini skirts, very low tops?
Indeed.
I never consider clothing I wouldn't wear. No low tops, no leggings, no bright colours. I'm one in jeans with crew necks tucked in.

Clothing that appeals to one won't look good on another. It's all down to skin and hair colour, imo. The colour my skin, hair, eyes has always been appropriate to my clothes. No age related sartorial changes.
I would love to see some pictures too, Karmalady. You are very talented!
I’d love to see some of the clothes you make, karmalady. Any pics?
No shops apart from snag for tights and doreen for bras
I keep an eye on styles for the fashionable and make my own, all beautifully made and in nice colours. Nothing dull and elderly
Upside is that my clothes all fit properly
None, or at least very few of u, have perfect figures at any age, so adapting what we wear to our shape is always part of our clothing parameters.
My hips are very close to my ribcage, which means I have never had a proper waist and any clothing that cinches in at the waist makes my bottom look enormous in this, I do not need to ask. As a result, most dresses do not fit me so I have always tended to wear trousers or skirts with tops that skim over the problem area. Spine shrinkage has made the problem worse, butthe solution remains the same.
My sister rarely wore trousers because her legs were quite short, but she had a tiny waist, so she frequently wore the kind of dresses I avoided.
Looking smart is a state of mind, Wear clothes you enjoy and feel comfortable in and then step out with confidence, assumed if not actual.

So many posters saying that age shouldn’t affect what you wear but for some of us age brings changes in body shape and health conditions that demand changes. I’ve shrunk nearly 2”, the padding on my backside has migrated to my waist, necklines never seem to sit properly after a double mastectomy and arthritis means that I have to wear clumpy lace ups. I would so love to look smart but it seems those days are past. Having said that I’ll sit down this afternoon and make a list of websites mentioned and have a look - you never know!
Teabagwoman, I am in a similar situation, multiple comorbidities have resulted in many body changes, but I have no control over it.
However, I have learned to adapt and make the best of my appearance and disguise the not so good parts.
My mother looked old in her forties, unlike her I do not intend to be a frumpy old woman.
I sound really vain, perhaps I am! 😉

DH has just bought me a dress from Seagrass. 💕
He may be a keeper after all 😂
He has a lot of work still to do Blossoming 🤣
It's a start! 😁
DH has never bought me any clothes apart from a dressing gown --which I returned--
I helped him out by ordering it myself, all he needs to do is pay! 🤣
He once came back from a business trip to Helsinki with a beautiful purple Paisley pattern top. I was gobsmacked. It was a first.
Sadly, I was was about three sizes smaller then. 😒

Monica I totally agree 👍🏻
I have a calendar with pictures of DS and family. I have just looked at this months.
It shows DS, DGD and DGS at a pumpkin farm. DGD, 15(at the time) is wearing a mid thigh length khaki padded jacket, large burnt orange sweater and black leggings. I, at 80, have and wear exactly that same outfit. The ony difference is that she is wearing white trainers with it and I wear black.
As we say, what has age got to do with what we wear?
Posy that's brilliant & made me laugh , sounds like you had a great time.
Greenlady102 I think I just worded my original post badly. What I meant was that the sites I was finding online weren't much inspiration and what I really wanted to know is what real women 70+ are wearing. The answer is anything and everything that takes their fancy, isn't that great? This thread has become a great resource for all of us, I've discovered at least 20 companies I've never heard of and have plenty of new places to find clothes other than the narrow range I've been buying from for too many years. I think I might try the personal shopper service at John Lewis just for the fun of it and I've just bought a lovely pair of duck egg blue gloves from Seagrass, so thank you ladies who posted that site and to all of you for your contributions.
Maybe we could start a thread of Show me your pictures - favourite outfits (you don't have to model it) that'd give those dull "Fashion for 50+" sites a run for their money.
Greyisnotmycolour - the first thing she asked me to try on I modestly went into the bathroom b4 emerging. An hour in and I'm there, saggy bra and all whipping off garments.
Here's the lady that I saw

She's on Instagram too. She has saved me a fortune - we're going away in November and I had a list as long as my arm of stuff I thought I needed.
I’ve been looking for a long grey cardigan - and just found one here…..

I agree. Why does being 70 have any effect on what you wear? I agree that skin tone and hair colour might cahange the colours that suit being worn near the face but for heavens sake wear what you like!
I meant to add this comment to one that talked about whatever horrors are going on in the world, there’s no point in sitting around looking like a sack of spuds with a face to match…but it just came as a stand-alone comment.
Loving this thread and off to look at the Texture website
