I think that it’s up to the individual how they spend their money, if an item brings joy it’s nobody’s business.

I’ve had a picture in mind of my next bag for a while, so this afternoon I decided to find it, and order it. I wanted an everyday, leather, cross body, chestnut brown, saddle bag style bag big enough to take my purse, phone, house and car keys, pen etc. - so between 22cm and 25cm wide, with a phone pocket. Too much to ask! After two hours searching every potential website thrown up by Google and several others, I’ve found a compromise but I feel like I’ve run a mental marathon.
Is it just me - I don’t think I’m that fussy, but I always seem to want the one thing that eludes me.
I think that it’s up to the individual how they spend their money, if an item brings joy it’s nobody’s business.
I have bought sole bliss "new in box" on Vinted at a massively discounted price.
You obviously need to know the size.
I bought some heels for a wedding and they wete super-comfy.
I would agree GG if the items weren’t so cheap as to have probably originated from China, whose human and animal welfare rights record is appalling and which is fast making great inroads into our country. Mindless shopping for the sake of a moment’s pleasure, which is what I have witnessed recently, is doing huge damage to our country whilst supporting a very dangerous one, allied to Russia. Is a quick fix really worth it?
I keep remembering my mother telling that any bloody fool can go shopping with a lot of money! Just lately I have had several amazing bargains from eBay. Well worth a look.

When I am searching for a specific item I use image search rather than trawling every site.
Yes, I did that to start off my search, but they don’t give you the dimensions on the images, and part of my two hours was spent following up leads to no avail. Anyway, I’m happy at last with what I’ve gone for - the exact bag was for sale on eBay, but it was £16 more than the new manufacturer price, which just shows you have to be careful, wherever you’re buying from.
I’ll follow up on Sole Bliss and Ecco for my trainers, thanks for the suggestions.
I’m finding it’s definitely harder work buying mindfully, but it’s worth it when you do find exactly what you want, or at least the best available option out there, in the end.
I get mommered if I have too muvh of anything, including clothes, so I only buy what I have a need for and know will fit in with everything else I have, and I tend to wear clothes in rotation to make sure that I wear everything equally.
Were I to have the amount of clothes DH has, most never worn, I would never manage to dress in the morning, I would be in such a state of confusion about what to wear.
I have a similar problem. I find having too much of anything quite troubling.
One exception - I can never have too many books, but of course those are all neatly lined upon shelves by subject.
“Live and let live, do not judge, take life as it comes and deal with it, everything will be okay.”― James Frey, A Million Little Pieces
I a very particular about everything I buy, it has to pay for itself!
For bags my first stop is Tusting, (link at bottom).
Cashmere jumpers from the man on Masham market!
Jeans from NYDJ.
My feet love Geox, I am normally lucky at TKMaxx, I rarely pay more than £40..
I had a pair of Aigle wellingtons, I bought about 18 years ago, they were over £100 but I wore them to death, they needed replacing so earlier this year I got some Le Chameau I could not believe the price!
I will leave them to my daughter in my will!!!!
However I know I will not buy another pair of wellingtons in my life.
So basically buy good buy once, I look after all my clothes and accessories, I am still wearing a white shirt from 20 years ago and some of my NYDJ are over 10 years old.

That’s odd MOnica. I also have masses of books, on shelves, as does my husband, and their number doesn’t trouble me at all!

I love the quest. It requires stamina and sticking power.
This bag?
I LOVE this bag ...... Where does it come from, please? I too am thinking of things for Mr R to get me for Christmas.

National Trust.
In brown leather.
Oh my goodness there is a bag on that link that I would love to buy for my daughter, but won’t be able afford it. A beauty thank you Sago…..A lottery win might help.
Me too, LadyGaGa ! At the moment I'm trying to find a black crossbody bag, not too large, not too small. Sounds like it would be easy, but I'm still looking.
I have been looking for a chunky knit navy cardigan but not with big brown buttons ! I thought that would be easy / but no
To me "mindful shopping" is buying something I can sell on to someone else for three times the price.

Casdon It’s like the eternal quest to find the perfect pair of jeans… we keep looking, it may not happen. Same with bags, purses.
But we settle for something close. Seems like you found your bag. Try to remember which purveyor, designer, which store this bag came from. Many designers keep a signature style, look, pattern in their line. You’d always be able to go back to find similar items.
I find shopping relaxing. I don’t mind it. Others hate to shop.
But the truth is - we’ll never find exactly what we we’re looking for.

I think, Gundy, you should really say "the truth is - we’ll never find exactly what we we’re looking for" at a price we can justify/afford
I know exactly the ironing board I want to buy - but they are way too expensive now to justify the spend! I am watching out on second hand sites... 🤞
May be my standards are low, but I found the perfect pair of jeans years ago and I know exactly why they fit.
My last winter handbag I had for 30 years,I used it consatntly every winter, no other. In the end it wore out and wasn't repairable. My current one, came from a charity shop, it cost £4.50. It probably will not last me 30 years, mainly because before then I will have reached my sell by date.
We come from very different places on this I think Monica. I love clothes, and in my time I’ve spent a fortune. I’m trying be more sustainable, so since I retired I’ve developed a capsule wardrobe, and now only buy very few items each season - but what I do get, I want to be exactly what I need to fill the gap. I don’t mind if what I get is cheap, expensive or in the middle, it just has to be exactly right - that’s what I meant by mindful.
All sounds a bit joyless…..
No, I don't think so Alice75 - beautiful items are full of joy!
