Front page of today’s Times 2 supplement.

The fashion editor seems to like them!
Seems to me that the manufacturers have been scrabbling about for anything to induce us to think ‘Ooh, new! So must (spend more money) buy some!’

Personally I wouldn’t be seen dead.

These wide leg trousers are everywhere and as I'm short and petite they look awful on me. I was loving the tapered style trousers and skinny jeans but am having trouble finding them.

I'm pretty sure I had something similar in around 1975.

I've worn every fashion of jeans since the early 60s. So in my teens and twenties, yes I would have worn these. To me, at my age now , they look unflattering but that is just my opinion, they would probably look great on our tall, slim granddaughter. I wear slim fit jeans (not skinny fit) with straight legs nowadays, they are the most flattering for me. When I was a teen etc I didn't really care if older people liked what I was wearing, in fact it was quite a hoot when they hated it!

I've worn slim-fit, boot-cut and slouch - but I wouldn't wear these. They just look stupid. And like your previous correspondent, I need to stick with skinny now, to see where i'm putting my feet!

I’M with the wear whatever school of thought, just look in the mirror before you go out. Make sure you are pleasing yourself because that’s what it’s all about really.

Don't seem to go with the Zimmer frame!

If I was tall and skinny which I’m not I might, but as I’m quite petite I wear skinny jeans.

Even though I was slim back in the day, Loons were not flattering then so no.

I bought some balloon jeans from M&S probably a few years back and amazingly they did not look too bad on my shortish, aged frame. Anything tight anywhere looks hideous on me - I think!

Milest0ne Sat 16-Dec-23 16:11:28

M &S always fit me best.
To paraphrase the C&W song. Pushing 80 &still wearing jeans

Sitting in the bath with your Levi’s ….happy days …with your family screaming at you to “ get out of the bathroom”

Ziplok Sat 16-Dec-23 15:25:07

Not for me.

Anemonemenome Sat 16-Dec-23 14:18:13

Couldn’t catch a pig in an alley in those though … not that I’d want to!!

jaybee66 Sat 16-Dec-23 13:45:32

Very unflattering - dreadful in fact.

lemsip Sat 16-Dec-23 13:36:56

I always think of all that material to wash and ages to dry lol

SunnySusie Sat 16-Dec-23 13:15:08

Fond memories of buying a pair of jeans from a market stall when I was in my teens. Took them home and sat in the bath wearing them, then went outside and sunbathed until they were dry. To my horror when I eventually peeled them off I was deep dyed blue. It lasted ages!

Nannyof4mummyof2 Sat 16-Dec-23 13:03:31

Ive never had the body to show off jeans to their best but i love fashion and what some people wear is not always a good look for their shape height or size but it seems if its fashion they dont care x

Nannina Sat 16-Dec-23 12:43:13

Long time since I wore jeans- I want something more flexible and easier to was and dry

JaneJudge Sat 16-Dec-23 12:24:04

Chestnut

sweetcakes Sat 16-Dec-23 12:21:48

Yuk! Perhaps not for our age group 🤷🏻‍♀️

Casdon Sat 16-Dec-23 12:00:53

People have short memories I think! Apart from loons, which I mentioned earlier, we had jeans covered in patches, patchwork jeans made up of different materials, jeans with inserted material in the bottom to make them wider flares, Bay City Rollers tartan bottoms on jeans, cut off jeans to make hot pants - you name it, jeans have been through every permutation under the sun. These are really no worse than what we wore in the past - in fact, sticking my neck out, I’d say they are better than many previous fashions.

Alison333 Sat 16-Dec-23 11:59:21

I actually got a pair of balloon jeans from M & S last year but I made sure they weren't 'ankle grazers' because I thought they would look silly - as they do in the picture.

At normal length tapering to the foot they were very comfy especially for my dodgy knees. I had no idea that I was wearing cutting edge fashion!

missdeke Sat 16-Dec-23 11:54:28

I still think 'ordinary' jeans look better than any others. Personally I can't stand skinny jeans, the faff of pulling them off is too much for me and they are frequently worn by people with just the wrong figure/legs for them. At least these balloon jeans would hide a multitude of sins I suppose but they do look rather silly.

Lilyflower Sat 16-Dec-23 11:49:56

Wouldn't even look good on Kate Moss.
