House clothes

Do you wear separate clothes indoors to outdoors? I still don’t but really want to do this.
I want to get myself some joggers and tee shirts just for the house, but it seems I’m always on the go still here and there and always in the same outfits that I start the day in. Which as the evening comes are generally getting uncomfortable.

I walk my dog first thing everyday and wear leggings and t shirts or fleeces to walk him . If I’m doing housework or gardening I’ll stay in my dog walking clothes . If I’m going out I shower and change into jeans or shorts or a dress depending on the weather . To day I had friends round for coffee and changed into a dress .

Do people seriously wear the same clothes inside their homes after walking dogs or gardening - my clothing becomes mucky dirty.

If so, I'd like advice on how to accomplish clean dog walking, clean gardening - my clothing is positively filthy when I'm done with a dog walk/garden chores. Terriers run and become mucky, muck transfers when picking them up.

Casdon Mon 20-May-24 14:31:54

I do. I wear long boots and a Barbour when I walk my dog in the wet, so my jeans don’t get muddy, although sometimes wet where the rain drips off my coat. I never pick my dog up though. I wear a gardening apron or a ratty old fleece, and wellies to garden in, I might change my jeans or sweatshirt but only when they get muddy. Your washing machine must be on all the time Norah.

I would change my clothes if I'd been doing something mucky. I just read the Op as meaning 'did I change when I get home after being out somewhere' . Didn't occur to me that people might spend the day gardening, getting their shoes and jeans dirty, and not change out of them before sitting around the house.

My home uniform is leggings and a thin fleece type top, or tee shirt - depending on the weather. I would keep these on to go to the shop as they are not tatty, just comfortable. I usually have a coat on top anyway. Leggings and tops get relegated to home uniform when they have become faded or just a bit old.

If I am in work I dress more smartly but always get changed into my home uniform when I get in.

I also get dressed as soon as I get up. I have never been the type to slop around in a dressing gown for half of the morning. Nor do I get ready for bed hours beforehand and sit about in my nightie and/or dressing gown. My mother never did so I think I have got it from her.

I change clothes to walk the dog or dogs depending on the number round at walk time (Many changes a day for dog walks). Change to hoover and further exercise. Change to garden. Change to normal day tasks. Change if I must go to town, do a shop, pick up parts. Cover up for cooking. Change for bed.

I keep all my jeans and tops until downgrading use is not possible (dog walks, hoovering, exercise, gardening), rarely have to buy again.

You sound like the Royal Family on Christmas Day.
😂

I wear old trousers and tops at home and newer items, smart casual, for going out unless it's somewhere special, in which case I panic.

Today I'm wearing rather faded cotton trousers and a new long-sleeved cotton t-shirt and I've been cleaning. Normally I wouldn't wear a brand new item to do the cleaning in but bought it last year and I don't like the colour!

I will change for bed.

Indeed, my king, dogs, and Princess daughters!!!gringrin

If wearing clean, dry, old, faded clothing, for all mucky home tasks, and changing/washing often during a day is somehow horrible - count me in!

It was just that I read something years ago about the Royal Family and how many times they changed their clothes on Christmas Day for church, different meals etc! 🙂

I haven't got a dog any more, sadly.

I’ve just worked it out. The secret is to get a dog that hates water and mud. Mine is a non-typical spaniel, he’s not keen to even put his nose out of the door if it’s wet. He walks round puddles and mud, and would never go in the river. I just wipe his feet when we get home, all good.

Walks around mud grin, Oh I'm half in love with him already Casdon, Swap? No, thought not....

I had a spaniel. Mucky McMuckFace would have been an excellent name for him.

Cow muck was a favourite if he could find any.

Indoor days, t shirt, leggings or warm sweater/fleece in the winter.
I sing, so I dress up for performing and enjoy it, choosing something attractive with jewellery etc.

I can’t bear to see people in bedroom slippers around the house, it gives me the ick. They are only for the bedroom in my eyes. I have my comfortable house shoes for indoors.

Mine is more Fussy McWussy Callistemon21!

Callistemon21 Mon 20-May-24 15:26:01

😁

Ours sometimes had to have a hose down outside before he was fit to come in. He loved a swim in the sea as well.

The Bodach’s mother was always well dressed, and she had ‘housework clothes’, a tan checked skirt and cream coloured jumper which she wore for housework all the thirty odd years I knew her. These would be changed for her normal skirt and blouse or dress when the task was completed. She would never have worn trousers.

Yes, Germanshepherdsmum, that’s what I mean. I think it’s the elasticated waists, they do nothing for me at all, apart from make me feel like a sack of potatoes. They can look lovely on other people I know, they just aren’t for me.

I wear good quality workout leggings or yoga pants which are more flattering than jogging bottoms . They have a higher waistband and support around the tummy and waist, so that you’re not hoiking them up whilst exercising . My sweaty Betty yoga pants are smart enough for a long haul flight and really comfy.

My granny used to dress in a blouse and pinafore style dress every morning to do her housework and cook, her evening meal was organised in the morning and just after she set the dining table for lunch would she go and change into a day dress as she called. No one ever saw her looking anything but smartly dressed. She be berating me if she could see how I dress most days😂

Amalegra Tue 21-May-24 11:56:26

I always dress as if I MIGHT go out as more often than not I end up doing so. Even on comfy days at home I put on jeans or jeggings and a reasonable top, although not one of my better ones. Might change into a kaftan if it’s hot although I wouldn’t go out in it! I bought a couple of pairs of joggers for the winter but haven’t yet worn them as they seem a bit baggy for my taste. PJs early in winter though!

Greciangirl Tue 21-May-24 12:02:48

I have indoor and outdoor clothes. I always have.

Soft comfy leggings and long sleeve tops in winter or short sleeves in summer.
Also, no bra worn indoors as too uncomfortable to wear all day long. A vest will do indoors as we don’t get any casual visitors usually.

I find jeans too uncomfortable to wear all day long and jumpers are too heavy.
I also stay in dressing gown until ready to go out.

N4nna Tue 21-May-24 12:17:17

What I put on in the morning is what I take off at night… unless going for posh frock do and then it’ll be home and nighty… Due to go for a lunchtime meal about 30 of us I will dress up for that, but depending on what I put on will depend on if I change when I get home… chiffon stuff change, stretchy stuff not bother until I go to bed 😁

knspol Tue 21-May-24 12:18:50

It's 3 sets of clothes for me, well worn but clean and ironed gardening clothes ( seem to have more of these than anything else), clothes for wearing in the house and then clothes I change into if going to the shops or out anywhere.

NannaBarbra Tue 21-May-24 12:19:10

For me it's usually leggings or jeggings and a top/T shirt round the house, decent enough to pop to the shop or post office etc, I also have scruffier versions of the above for gardening and other dirtier jobs
I have always been a girly girl (girly gran now 😀) so I still dress up to go out for the day/evening, a nice dress or skirt and top/blouse

Gundy Tue 21-May-24 12:26:49

Ohmygosh - I’m still scrounging around trying to find clothes that I wear around the house to be acceptable for out-of-the-house errands and not be arrested!

I hate to get out of my comfy clothes. Some days I choose to stay in, just because.

paddyann54 Tue 21-May-24 12:27:17

I like to put a maxi dress on if I'm staying in,I've done that for decades. My friend dropped by unexpectedly and thought I was going out because my make up goes on before I'm dressed and I'd a nice long sleeved maxi on.
I prefer to always look my best ,that friend now has a nice collection of maxi's and midi's that she wears around the house so she always looks good .Looking good is essential to mental health ,if I as scruffy it would make me depressed .
Gardening ,unless its a manky job I still wear a dress

cc Tue 21-May-24 12:31:02

I used to change out of my smart clothes when I got back from work, but now wear the same clothes in and out of home. Indeed I wear much same clothes for most of the year as central heating deals with the cold.
I might occasionally dress up for a wedding or a special meal, but this is usually just my favourite smart outfit or my best shirt.

KKKKATIE Tue 21-May-24 13:05:09

I've just purchased two kaftans off the internet, cant stand the hot weather so don't wear anything else underneath.
