Are jeggings really out of fashion?

I’ve been having an initial sort out of my wardrobe and I confess I’ve got at least 40 pairs of various coloured jeggings! I know, it’s disgusting but some are years old, some newer but I just don’t wear anything out!

I will wear some in winter with boots I suppose and I’m just dipping a toe into wide legs but I’m loath to just give a lot of money to charity shops. At my age, if they come back into fashion in a few years, I might be too old to wear them! Has everyone ditched all leggings and jeggings?

I’m planning to go through everything and I’ve sorted loads out for charity shops - I’ve just been very silly buying and buying more and more clothes, shoes, sandals, boots etc etc but it’s so difficult to let go.

I never really got into them but you wear what you want does it matter what anyone else thinks it’s your body and your style you still see them on ppl and in the shops or toss in back of your wardrobe for when they come back into fashion as fashion goes round in circles

Being slim doesnt always translate to looking great in leggings.

I think you have to be fit to look great, if you want to wear them with a short top and all that malarkey.

Myself, wouldn't be seen dead in jeggings or leggings. They are only for slim girls and women, bu they are so unforgiving. even if I was slim I wouldn't wear them. I often wonder if women look at their back and bottom when wearing them. I guess they are comfortable.

Welli got my leggings out yesterday as I could wear them under a long summer top. No socks required and comfy sandals worn. Blissfully comfortable. Note to self: wear this more often!

I've only had one pairs of leggings and I didn't like them, my daughter used to wear them but now wears plain leggings, which are practical for her work.
I had 2 or 3 pairs of cheap leggings which I wore sometimes but found that they got baggy quickly and the top of the thighs wore through quickly. All that sort of leggings has been ditched apart from one pair that keeps surviving the chip as they are useful for doing dirty work outside. I was recommended mint velvet leggings and they are good quality and comfy. When I broke my arm I needed easy to put on clothes, the baggy tops that went over my cast went but I have kept the leggings I have some plain black, grey and burgundy ones. Often wear the black and burgundy ones in winter under dresses with boots instead of tights. In the last couple of years I've got myself some sale ones from llama leisure, as I wanted some jolly coloured patterned ones, and have several lovely pairs, psychedelic, and 60s flowers, as well as more subtle ones. I need both plain and patterned ones, today I have a black pair plus a psychodelically patterned early 70s style top, just the job for church. I make sure that tops are tunic length, maybe not if I'm home alone, but for going out. I do wear skirts more in summer particularly and dresses.
The colours/patterns cheer me up and I have had some people come up and say how much they love seeing the lovely colours
If you enjoy wearing leggings/leggings, just go ahead and wear them, if you're worried about how you look just have a peek in a long mirror and if you're happy with what you see why change it
Actually, looking at myself in a long mirror has helped me declutter my wardrobe, some things that I thought suited me style/cut wise, in fact, didn't.

Who cares if something is fashionable? How often do we read that 'Everyone is going to be wearing blah blah this year', and 'Discard your floral midis and trainers'. I don't want to wear what 'everyone' is wearing. Do the fashion writers think we are all mad enough to discard our entire wardrobes to buy what they say - until next season, and then start again? Also, I love my midi dresses and trainers - so Ner Ner to them all. I've never tried to be fashioable - just modern, in that I wouldn't wear a crimplene dress and jacket and a petalled hat, but if you like something and it suits you, why worry about fashion?

I've never heard of jeggings...

WelshPoppy Sun 02-Jun-24 13:12:00

I wear jeggings, but not leggings, a lot as I have a stoma and find jeggings give me the abdominal support I need.

I've never owned a pair of jeggings or leggings, my figure certainly isn't up to either!

SheWho Sun 02-Jun-24 12:47:36

I love my leggings. I have lost a bit of weight and find them even more useful. Jeggings - I haven't quite got that far as finding some to fit would probably be a problem, but I'm 79 and not about to let go of one of the most useful and comfortable items in my bottom drawer. I've always worn them with a tunic but I now find I can wear them with something not so long. I don't think they will really ever go out of fashion, as they were never even top fashion were they? I'm just taking out my standard trousers because they are cooler, but I'm not about to give away my beloved leggings - especially the figure-hugging ones with pockets!

Well I’m like you op I’ve got around 18 so not as many as you I couldn’t give a monkeys wether in fashion or not I’m told I look good in them, and as long as I feel good that’s all that matters. Dress up or down with them . I also wear wide leg linen trousers. Jeans, dungarees too. Lots of my friends sell and buy on eBay I don’t know anything about vinted though.

I was people watching in Harrogate the other day and many women of all ages seemed to be wearing jeggings/leggings. It's a style I've never really got into, apart from for exercise classes. Maybe nows the time for me to get some.
PS I also saw some young women wearing the shortest of shorts and the temperature was only a brisk 15 C.

Wear various types of leggings all the time but not jeggings.

4allweknow Sun 02-Jun-24 12:06:43

I have 2 denim and 2 black pairs of jeggings. Just pulled them out last month for the slightly better weather. They may not still be fashionable but for me, they are a start to the seasons of not wearing socks, it needs to be warm to uncover my feet in shoes. I also have cropped linen trousers but would not wear full length. Tried them but at 5'6' and size 14 looked ridiculous, felt like a box from the waist down. 5"8 or 5'9 perhaps. It will be the cropped cotton next if this weather keeps up.

Don’t like leggings or jeggings on anybody with skinny legs or anybody with “sturdy” legs (me!) or anybody out of their teens. But I will defend to the death your right to wear whatever you feel comfortable in! 😉

In winter I wear leggings round the house every day, I would rather be warm than fashionable

maddyone Sun 02-Jun-24 11:23:05

AreWeThereYet

^ jeggings are fine for joggers, which was what they were intended for, but don't look right out on the street.^

I think you must be thinking of the lycra leggings used originally for yoga classes and the gym - there are a lot of them around on the streets these days, ultra stretchy, very thin and often quite see through. The M&S jeggings I wear are slightly stretchy cotton and most definitely not intended for any sort of exercise and just look like cotton trousers. In the Summer I buy regular length that are ankle length to wear with sandals. In the Winter I buy longer length to under boots and buy them a size larger so I can wear a thermal legging under them.

I wear the M+S ones too. They’re not stuck to my legs tight, their just a bit slimmer than my straight leg jeans. I wear either in the winter because they’re quite thick. In summer I wear cut off jeans/trousers, and if it’s very hot, I wear shorts around the house or on holiday. In hot weather I also wear skirts with sleeveless tops or sun dresses. My arms aren’t what they were, but I’m not going to melt just because I’m getting older.

I still wear them and jeans.having lost loads of weight it is one of life’s delights to not have to struggle into jeans! I have given loads of thing to my local charity shop who are always very pleased to have them. Wear what is comfortable! Personally I hate the new trend for wide leg trousers and would not wear them, especially those above the ankle!

Dollymixtures Sat 01-Jun-24 17:49:24

Thanks for your replies. I’ve just put them back in the wardrobe ready for Autumn/Winter. I am quite taken with wide legged trousers and bought a pair from Next but they are strictly for going out which is few and far between. I am tall and slimmish so they look alright. I too have sparrow legs so they need covering up when wearing leggings or jeggings but with a long top, they are fine. I’ll get rid of some in my charity bag which is building up nicely again.

Summerfly Fri 31-May-24 23:55:33

I have a couple of pairs of jeggings. So easy to wear with an oversized top, but, having recently lost quite a lot of weight, I look like skinny Minnie in them. I have always had skinny ankles (hence my two DD’s pet name for me is sparrow legs) I’ve decided to wear straight leg jeans or trousers until I gain weight again. 😄

MissAdventure

I fell over when I went out on a windy day, in wide legged trousers.

I thought I was going to take off! grin

😂

Jeggings are out of fashion and were always awful. I have some leggings but rarely wear them now. I love wide legged trousers. Bought some for my holiday and they were admired. I have always worn straight legged linen trousers in summer.

Skydancer Fri 31-May-24 23:02:14

Agree GSM. I’m 5ft 5in - not particularly short - but I look awful in them.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 31-May-24 18:08:43

Wide trousers are very unflattering unless you are tall and slim. They make the average woman look dumpy.

HousePlantQueen Fri 31-May-24 17:16:39

I don't like very wide trousers either, with the exception of linen ones to be worn with birkenstocks on holiday.
