Are jeggings really out of fashion?

I’ve been having an initial sort out of my wardrobe and I confess I’ve got at least 40 pairs of various coloured jeggings! I know, it’s disgusting but some are years old, some newer but I just don’t wear anything out!

I will wear some in winter with boots I suppose and I’m just dipping a toe into wide legs but I’m loath to just give a lot of money to charity shops. At my age, if they come back into fashion in a few years, I might be too old to wear them! Has everyone ditched all leggings and jeggings?

I’m planning to go through everything and I’ve sorted loads out for charity shops - I’ve just been very silly buying and buying more and more clothes, shoes, sandals, boots etc etc but it’s so difficult to let go.

40 pairs does seem a bit excessive! I wear jeggings. Don't worry about fashion. Enjoy what you have would be my advice.

Erm. Not sure they were ever ‘fashionable’.
Comfortable, yes!

This.
I have 5 pairs of M&S ‘cosy’ jeggings and positively live in them in winter - and in chilly springs like this one.
It’s never occurred to me to wonder - or care - whether they were fashionable.

Many folk round here wear leggings/ jeggings, tends to be more the black now though, which rules me out as I have a white (shedding) dog.I love the slouchy grey joggers & hoodies, but have reluctantly decided I'm just too old Try Vinted app. All sorts of things sell on there.

Witzend Wed 29-May-24 19:24:50

PS, I’m sure any local charity shop will be glad of any you’re going to discard!

I did not find jeggings at all comfortable, but wore them for a couple of years, then donated to the charity shop. I do wear leggings around the house, or out shopping, as they are stretchy and comfortable, but with a long top. Being reasonably stylish, but comfortable, is how I dress.

You’ll be lucky if you get £2.50 for a pair of second hand jeggings on Vinted.
There is soooooo much pre owned stuff around you practically have to give it away.

I sell stuff for our charity shop. I put this beautiful brand new child’s outfit on. In real life it’s a bright sunshine yellow with 2 underskirts. A saucy mare offered me £4 😡

No they are not fashionable.. but if you find them comfy then thats fine...I wear kick flare or mom jeans these days ....for hols I wear wide leg linen pants ....my flares are miss sixty from 30 years ago ...glad I kept them !

keepingquiet Wed 29-May-24 19:54:45

Never owned a pair, don't care about fashion.

Truffle43 Wed 29-May-24 20:13:53

Jeggings are still being sold in lots of fashionable shops. If you love them wear them . I wear mine with long shirts in summer and jumpers in winter and am comfortable. I wear them in the colours that suit my mood. If you have too many sell them on eBay or somewhere like that. Charity shops will also be happy to take them.

BlueBelle Wed 29-May-24 20:49:24

Definitely out of fashion (at last) much wider leg is in fashion now or bootcut or wide legged loose dungarees, my joggers are all ear marked for the charity shop. tight legged were in for such a long time I m really glad of a change

I have jeans but not jeggins,I find them uncomfortable. I do weat leggins, but with a long tunic or dress, they look like thick tights and they are more comfortable.
My daughter just started selling her clothes on vinted and has made £400 so far, but most of her clothes are designer. She has also made money with my Grandsons clothes, especially the Nike.

No. They're not fashionable, imo.

People should wear that which suits them.

I wear only that which makes me content.

I dislike leggings as well. However, I am not fashionable nor have I ever been stylish or fashionable. I'm happy with basics.

Grammaretto Wed 29-May-24 21:32:41

I have one pair of denim jeggings which suit me with a tunic top. It's the same style I wore when I was a teenager in the mid 1960s!

I wish the wide trousers popular everywhere looked nicer on me
I prefer cropped trousers or long shorts in summer.

Dollymixtures Thu 30-May-24 00:03:15

The reason I have so many is because I like them, feel comfortable and look ok with long tops or jumpers. It’s just that I’d read that they are really out now as the fashion is for wide leg trousers this summer. I did say originally that of course, I could sell them on Vinted or give them to charity shops but I’ve just put them away for now to wear when it suits. I’m not a follower of fashion really but I don’t like to be too old fashioned.

I’ve made quite a lot of money selling on Vinted too but I don’t think jeggings would make very much on there. I was merely asking for people’s thoughts on them.

NotSpaghetti Thu 30-May-24 00:32:01

I've never liked them to be honest, and they are definitely not fashionable I'm afraid.

Like rafichagran I wear leggings under longish dresses instead of tights. I suppose they could be used like that?

Curtaintwitcher Thu 30-May-24 06:19:36

Not sure about fashionable. It seems anything goes these days. Personally, I think leggings and jeggings are fine for joggers, which was what they were intended for, but don't look right out on the street. Even slim young things look vulgar in them.

Aveline Thu 30-May-24 06:38:53

I never liked jeggings. Wear jeans if you want or leggings but not this uneasy mixture is my opinion.
I'm quite happy wearing leggings under the lovely tunic tops from White Stuff.

karmalady Thu 30-May-24 06:45:33

I never did buy jeggings, like skin tight jeans, thicker and heavier than leggings. I am glad I never did but leggings? I have a lot and they need wearing. I saw the post above, to wear with dresses, think I will try that. I have more than a drawer full and I have dresses. Could be a match made in heaven

Dollymixtures, who cares about fashion, if you want to wear jeggings then wear them. I make all sorts of indie- designed clothing and really could not care less about age appropriate. If they suit me then I wear them. You wear your jeggings and enjoy them, they will wear out one day or get sun-bleached so will not last forever

Astitchintime Thu 30-May-24 06:58:08

I wear leggings and leggings throughout the winter and into spring - teamed with a pair of boots and a three quarter length top they're comfortable and can be 'dressed up'.
Don't give two hoots. about what's "in" or"out" and I certainly can't afford to update my wardrobe every season.
I did notice some wide leg linen look trousers in the shop recently - but. they were also still selling.............LEGGINGS!

Marydoll Thu 30-May-24 07:04:35

I wear jeggings under Seasalt and White Stuff tunics or dresses.
I find them easy to wear because I have difficulty dressing.
They are certainly not out of fashion.

Wide leg trousers and flares look frumpy on a vertically challenged, overweight woman like me. 😉
Wide trousers, flapping round the ankles of some elderly women is not a good look at all.

Pittcity Thu 30-May-24 07:20:18

Keep them if they're serviceable. They'll be back in fashion before you know it. Personally I've always been a fan of loose trousers and am now highly fashionablegrin

LottieLouise Thu 30-May-24 07:33:19

Jeggings are only meant for those with the perfect figure and pair of legs for which I am not one of them.

Oh dear, I had better bin all mine! wink

What is the definition of a perfect figure? If your top half is covered to the knees, there is no problem.
