Hi, I'm looking to update my winter wardrobe but I don't know where to start! In the winter months I usually opt for dresses, tights and boots but my old faithfuls have seen better days sad I'm 64 and I feel like the high street only caters to young ladies or ladies in later life, I want to feel great in what I wear. If anyone could share any recommendations for where to buy comfortable and casual but stylish dresses, it would be much appreciated

GrammaH I understand what you say about Mini Mouse, I am fortunate that I have tiny feet, depending on make and style I am either a size 2 or 3.

Oh! To have such tiny feet, 2 or 3 that means children’s shoes does it? My own plates are a whopping size 6.

If it buttons all the way down, you could double up and use it as a duster coat.

Toast is pricey, but it lasts forever, so not a bad investment, as long as you don’t get fed up with it

Absolutely love toast stuff, but as it is so expensive, usually wait for the sales.
But now and again………

Yes that’s it. Though I. don’t look like that in it.More’s the pity.

I'm sure you look great!

I like Seasalt and White stuff.

I also go to charity shops, have done for years. Most recent finds have been brand new Seasalt Hunter coat for £15.00. New wide fitting suede boots in box from Mosulu.

Vinted is also very good. As a previous poster said you can filter Size, brand. I only go for NEW with tags. I have some great bargains both for myself and my granddaughter. Childrens wear is fantastic value. NEW things for a fraction of the price. Joules, Fatface, Seasalt etc.

littlenananj. It might be worthwhile travelling a bit further afield and visiting a few different ‘upmarket’ charity shops. Happy hunting! 😊

I find if I go shopping for something specific I rarely find it. Instead I seem to find random things in different places. Last week I received compliments on a charity shop skirt I was wearing with a top that cost £5. So, basically, an outfit for less than £10. Do be careful with online shopping unless it's a well-known name. There are some websites with lovely photos but the items look nothing like the photos. I've been caught out that way.

Just a little side question. What would you wear on your feet with a dress? . Please don’t say the ubiquitous white plimsolls.
Boots, loafers etc?

Depending on the weather, I alternate between, ballet pumps, loafers and boots. I can't wear heels.

I’m another fan of Roman, especially their dresses and tops.

Charity shops are the source of most of my top clothes, Vinted or eBay if I am looking for a specific brand and then filter my search for size, colour, sleeve length etc.

Great thread. Have ordered 3 dresses from Roman with a discount.
And fished out my leggings and tights.
All I need to do now is lose at least a stone.

Do try the charity shops in more upmarket areas. I volunteer at one and we have a ‘designer/new clothes’ rail. Dresses are on another rail in size order, all tops are colour co-ordinated in size order. We receive many generous donations and our little shop is always complimented by our customers on its display. It isn’t cluttered or smelly! 😊

I really like a charity shop, but I might have to travel a little further afield to the posh ones !smile

I wear boots with a brown tweed skirt. They are brown and styled like a riding/military boot, so fit close to the leg all the way up. Normal shoe heel.

I have never worn shoes with more than a 2 inch heel, other than a year of insanity, when I was 18, when I wore nothing else and risked breaking an ankledaily as I tottered around - and they were soooo uncomfortable. I cuurently have a range of fashionable black patent loafers

You are my age, so interested to know do you wear black tights and what style boots?
I’ve looked at boots to wear with dresses but they all look so large and ugly!

I opt for black but I have owned blue and brown in the past! Also I've had a range or styles, which style don't you like?
