Is it me, or is this a pretty ghastly look? Even if you’re young?

Some of the fashion is just like this, oversized ridiculous clothes just look at the cat walk shows/magazines I wouldn’t be seen dead in them !

Pricey (for me, anyway) items too. Jacket / £250. Skirt / £199.
Look better in these pics at least -

Just last week there was a thread re how to dress ( or something like that ). Many posters mentioned smart jackets, but I think they’re only smart if they fit well. So many worn are too long, too big at the shoulders or just generally too big. I caught a glimpse of singer Ann Marie on tv last week, wearing an enormous jacket. It looked awful. The gold jacket in the picture isn’t too bad a fit, but doesn’t go with the rest of the outfit. The bow looks too formal for the other items she’s wearing.

In my opinion, it looks ridiculous, however, lately it appears that all models advertising clothes are extremely thin, with either an aggressive stance or a sour face. I avoid looking at fashion now.

I have had a couple of nice dresses from. M and S lately with better quality mareial than from other high street shops . I think the oversized trend for youngsters is a good thing after all the Kardashian ridiculosly tight fit stuff and the ripped jeans. But I agree the model looks bored and disinterested.

How much ?????

"And thus the whirligigs of time bring in their own revenge!"

The cut of the clothes and the tie look exactly like the kind of senior school uniform my generation of schoolgirls campaigned unsuccesfully to get rid of!

I was brought up to think that gold coloured leather or fabric was "common" only worn by " a certain kind of woman" (my mother and aunts' euphemism for a street-walker,

No girls' school of my day would have countenced hair that length hanging loose - you would have been told to either have your hair cut level with the lobe of your ear, or somehow or other to pin it up until it was long enough for a pony tail or plaits.

But, I feel fairly convinced that if you are sixteen or seventeen, or even fourteen or fifteen this is IT or whatever the expression used these days.

And grandmothers have always thought that their grand-daughters' clothes were appalling.

Remember the comments like "I just don't know why your mother lets you go out looking like that" (said by Daddy's mother).

I think the clothes are fine , not for me but certainly for lots of others.
I think the problem is the model who looks totally disinterested , would rather be anywhere other than on the photo shoot presumably earning lots of money.
Surely the model is supposed to be helping to promote the clothing and must be behaving as asked. It doesn’t make sense then to have her making the clothes look drab and boring which I don’t think they actually are.

I never like anything M&S advertise online their models always look disinterested and the clothes just seen to hang, they may as well put it on a hanger and taken a photo. That particular model reminds me of the "Japanese look" of models looking like school girls but with an edge.

M & S have lost the plot. I went into the Haverfordwest one yesterday and apart from food there was nothing worth buying in there. I have bought a couple of things this year but the quality is questionable. My husband seems to fair better with the men’s clothes especially shirts.
For context I’m a (fashionable) 67 year old

Growing0ldDisgracefully Mon 16-Sept-24 12:43:50

Unmade bed look springs to mind.

Cossy Mon 16-Sept-24 12:32:30

Personally I think it’s awful!

Mojack26 Mon 16-Sept-24 12:30:40

Looks awful

kwest Mon 16-Sept-24 12:27:54

Not unlike the uniform I wore 60 years ago, with the skirt turned over at the waist to make it into a mini. The tie loosened to show off the new bosoms, wouldn't have got away with the gold blazer though. learning to rebel in a nice simple and safe way.

It looks like someone trying to jazz up school uniform.

My first thought was 'School uniform gone wrong!' The model looks young enough - and clearly not happy about the style. Most teenagers hate their school uniform however stylish the design.

Buttonjugs Mon 16-Sept-24 12:24:01

It seems that to look trendy at the moment involves wearing clothes that are too big for you!

sweetcakes Mon 16-Sept-24 12:20:38

My Granddaughter is in to the whole Japanese culture she's 15 and loves that style of clothing and frankly after the 60's and 70's styles we have no reason to complain about the fashion statements of today. Who was a punk or baycity roller far worse than what that girl was wearing in my opinion.

I agree, the jacket is ghastly worn like that and the model does not look at all impressed with what she has to wear!

Grandsand Mon 16-Sept-24 12:17:35

Not for me!

Mt61 Mon 16-Sept-24 12:17:13

I think M & S have terrible fashion. I can pick a skirt off the rack, looks lovely at the front, turn it round & has a silly bow hanging off the back. Might buy the odd thing in the clearance but avoid

Paperbackwriter Mon 16-Sept-24 12:15:43

I think it looks fine. Can we maybe not waste time and energy criticising outfits that others might like?

handbaghoarder Mon 16-Sept-24 12:14:45

Dont like this particular look but think M&S have had some fab pieces in recently. Loved their coloured trouser suits spring/ summer especially. Ive bought wide leg trousers and jeans, dresses, tee shirts - great value in sale - and just ordered a sweater and soft jersey wide leg trousers to wear casually. (I cant always afford their stuff but pick up ideas and buy “the look” elsewhere) Ditto Florence and Fred. Some great bits and pieces Just exasperated Tesco dont do online clothes shopping and the nearest large Tesco is miles away. But have picked up few bits locally by pure luck.

Mt61 Mon 16-Sept-24 12:13:48

Looks like she’s got the glue & crisp pks out

Grandma2002 Mon 16-Sept-24 12:11:36

Netherbyg84 I remember writing almost the same letter to M&S a couple of decades ago. Trouble is the personnel change with the times and get younger. You would think it would pay them to keep the odd older management member of staff on board.

It's all in the eye of the beholder
