oh dear..... following on from an earlier thread, I was a war baby. my class at school included all from the local doctor+ vicar to a rag and bone man and many of status unknown The rag and bone man would bring his daughter to school on the back of a flat bed trailer ( not sure what to call it) drawn by a shire horse.
She aged c 9 was a cheerful child but her parents could afford neither shoes or knickers for her .'Bxxx' had a virulent ear infection and wore his brother's cut down plus fours which
drowned him The ear constantly dripped pus..... our teacher asked him daily what he had had to eat.... and she cheered when he said his mother had given him egg and potato. I wonder if it is significant that he is now a chef. This was in
Lancashire The vicar ( daughter in our class)in c 1949 had a car as did the doctor.
I remember my parents( come down in the world.).... as my grandfather with whom we lived during the war had also a car and a telephone
I passed my 11 + very well said my school teacher uncle. I had had hopes of becoming a doctor but my mother had reserved all her savings for my brother . She insisted that only boys became doctors as she said that she was not going without a new ha t or a holiday to support me for such an extended university course..... I would only get married anyway and it was my duty to live around the corner from her with my babies.

Any school equipment needed MIGHT be donated by my aunt as a birthday present . The school uniform cardigan was scarlet.... Did she really need to hand knit me a purple one. ?Even in a black and white photo it looked dark grey by comparison..... a new one would have cost 3 guineas .... about the same amount as my mother paid for her new hat

Yes I remember this and many other incidents very well..... but know I do not remember feeling jealous at all. The whole system made me self reliant and inventive to a huge degree
It was another world I lived in and I grew up to make a much better one for myself

I found Estée Lauder Double Wear awful- just so drying and chalky! An expensive mistake.
I do like Laura Mercier tinted foundation which I’m using at the moment but it was over £40!
Next will just go back to Boots No7 foundations- can’t beat them!

I've worn this foundation for absolutely years and love it. I keep an eye out for special offers but usually have a spare one just in case.

Most of the time I put concealer under my eyes, a dab on my forehead, chin and nasal lines. This can be enough during the day and doesn’t look too made up.

Maybelline Super Stay 30, full cover, lasts all day, huge range of shades and available in Superdrug for around £12 (last time I looked). They do a 24 hour one too, it has a more dewy finish.

I like Revlon's Color Stay full cover foundation. It's in a tube and I apply it with a damp sponge. It covers my Rosacea well.

I've only worn it a few times in my life- now I can't see why I would bother.

I find Estee Lauder double wear is the only foundation that doesn't transfer to my collars.

After trying lots of foundations , some quite expensive some cheaper, I am using ELF soft glam satin foundation. It gives a nice cover, not too heavy and a very slight sheen. And only £10. From Superdrug.so if you didn’t like it you haven’t wasted a lot of money , and you could mix it without exizting foundation, I use 31 medium. ,

I know several people who use Estee Lauder Double Wear, they all prefer a full cover foundation.

I wore that for years, but find it too heavy now, settling in to every wrinkle and scar. I now use L'oreal Age Perfect BB cover, which I find gives a lovely cover on top of a good primer as it slides on so easily.

Since having problems with my skin and being photosensitive I have used IT CC+ Colour Correcting Full Coverage with Factor 50 UVA UVB coverage. It is light and glides on easily with a foundation brush. It is quite expensive but it lasts ages, one tiny pump does my whole face and neck and you can usually shop around and find it on offer somewhere. John Lewis, Boots or online. A lady at the bus stop the other day was asking about the bus times and said I had skin like a babys' bum! I took it as a compliment!

I use Sally Hansen airbrush on my legs in the summer .
Warning - it can stain .
Shaving foam gets the stains out .

I'm not a fan of heavy foundation -it can look clown like as we age .
But if you don't want to spend a lot of money -the Avon ones are fine .
Apply make up and let it settle for at least ten minutes before using a tissue to wipe off any excess .

I use boots No 7 it's great , I went into the store and they did a colour match for my skin. Great price too

I find it’s good in my skin too. I always use their moisturisers, even though I don’t believe all the hype in the advertisements. My last foundation was from Kiki. It looks good, does the job I need it to do and isn’t expensive.

I've just discovered Laura Geller baked balance & brightening foundation it's like a hard powder you apply with a brush. I love it and have it in 2 shades one for summer (tan) and one for winter. Takes a couple of seconds to apply with a brush. It's not cheap but it works.

And my shirt collars don’t get dirty with foundation 🤮

If you can get away with just a bit of concealer, then it’s great when bed time comes round and cleansing is quick and easy .

Can anyone recommend a full cover leg "foundation" cream to cover a varicose vein & thread veins please. They are unsightly & just want to disguise them a little so I dont have to wear tights in the heat. I am very self continue of them.

Have you tried Sally Hansen Airbrush legs? I use it sometimes in the Summer when I have to dress up a bit but don't want to wear tights. Usually sold in Boots and Superdrug I think.

There's also one by Dermablend which is supposed to be good but I haven't tried it.

I recommend Boots No.7 lift & luminate triple action foundation.I moisturize, then put on No. 7 Airbrush Away before the foundation. I am so impressed with this. It actually looks better later in the day.
