I wore a corsage of wired flowers like a big brooch - I was unusual and fancy enough to "mark me out" as mother of the groom but not so whimsical and girly as a fascinator.

My son got married last year. I am not a hat person either. I think fascinators are utterly ridiculous unless you are very careful, and hair needs to be either very short or up. Fancy hair-clip cut off age is 11. Why not splash out on a really good cut/colour? You will look fabulous. Enjoy.

Two years ago I wore, to my son’s wedding, a wide, fat, padded headband in satin. The Royals have been photographed wearing these so I felt it was acceptable. Etsy do some lovely ones but there are other companies too. Good luck.

I never wore anything on my head to either of my sons' weddings ( having had a bad hat experience on a windy day many years ago and on both occasions had lovely day.
Fortunately I was not reading gransnet in those days so I didn't "know " I was supposed to as MOTG.....be yourself...be happy....much more important!

Here are some corsages - worth considering maybe?

When my son got married I struggled with what to wear as my hair is very thin on the top and sides of my head and shows a lot of scalp, especially if I get hot and my head sweats. I knew if I wore a hat my hair would get damp with sweat as it was hot weather. A fascinator would have only covered the thin hair on one side. I opted for a wide fabric covered headband to match my dress. I make fabric brooches so I made one to wear on the dress and 3 smaller matching ones without the pins which I stitched onto the headband. My DD was quite critical when I told her my plan but even she admitted it looked OK. I felt perfectly comfortable which was the object of the exercise!
The mother of the bride wore a fascinator and as her hair is much thicker she looked fab.

PinkCosmos my son is getting married in September, I won’t be wearing anything in my hair, or on my head, both sets of parents have been advised to wear what they feel happy in. My hair will do as it is.

I don't do hats or fascinators so for my daughter's wedding I wore a big, sort of floppy, fabric flower in my hair on a clip in a matching colour to my dress (teal blue 😊). The hairdresser put it in my hair.

I felt great.

My friend had beautiful, fine feathers added to her long hair, scattered, all in muted colours. So unusual and it looked lovely.

Maybe a turban of the same colours as the dress?

I think trying lots of different hats might let you find the right one for you. Painful as it may sound 🤭

Why do you feel you should wear some headgear. If very formal wedding I'd go for a hat, fascinators always look as if you've had something plonked on your head. A hat can be much more stylish, or if informal, go with a nice hairdo.

I agree about fascinators and flowers and would also extend that to decorated combs and clips. The OP has chosen what I would term a fairly casual dress so any headwear needs to take that into account. It would I think be easier to match a hat to a rather more formal dress.

I don’t think fascinators or flowers look right on an older woman, I would just wear hair in an up do, or short if you have that style.

Wear what makes you happy, I live near a church and the amount of women that wear fascinators perched on the top of their heads like nesting sparrows always makes me smile, I’d find out if somewhere local does hat hire then go try some, you may find something you love, if not a band or nothing at all, it’s the bride and grooms day, enjoy.
