What is it with British men in hot weather?

I was driving through town this afternoon, and as the traffic was queueing, I noticed what everybody was wearing on this beautiful sunny day. Most women looked smart, and as if they had dressed for the weather, but oh dear, the men. Some with no tops and their belly over their trousers, some with too tight nylon sports tops, some with what looked like their football shorts on with a long sleeved shirt. Suit wearers had taken their jackets and ties off, and had their long sleeved shirts loose. I didn’t see even one who looked half decent, no chinos, short sleeved shirts, tailored shorts, polo shirts, or sandals without socks to be seen. I think I live in a male style desert.

I had to sit next a bright red, sunburnt man with no shirt on as the bus was very crowded. It was a bit like sitting next to a damp, smelly radiator and I kept getting wafts of sweaty perfume. I can't remember what he was wearing on his lower half.

Can you imagine a man posting this about women hmm
This is snobbery and sexism in action.

With that prompt I pretty much agree most women do dress attractively for the weather whatever their body type, a few are laughable.
Many men in the UK don’t have hot weather outfits, I burn easily so it’s short sleeves, polo shirt, chinos or shorts. Whatever the weather many men are thoughtless about what they wear they just don’t care.

I've always admired the Italians for their satorial style, I remember an Italian flight arriving just after ours in Mexico when queuing to clear customs, there they were all chic and unruffled. Italy has been at the cutting edge for style for centuries. A couple of observations though, young Italians don't tend to set up home independently, inter generational homes very common place, could they be spending too much on clothes? Also there is a very big north south divide, and northern Italians can have a lofty attitude towards their southern counterparts. I've never been south of Rome so can't make the comparison.

There's lots of lovely linen things at Uniqlo , which is popular
with my grandsons ( and both working). I also love their cotton shirtdresses. I do find their materials last and continue to look good.

Esmay

A guy at church is interested in me .
And his apperence really puts me off .
His hair is home cut and greasy .
He looks as though he's growing a beard and then changes his mind .
He also looks as though he gardens all day and sleeps in his gardening clothes .
If he's so unkempt on the outside what would he be like without clothes?!

Improved I should say 😂

Much better I would think esmay 😂

Forget the men. I've seen some appalling sights on women of an age to know better! Wrinkly cleavages and varicose veins on display are never attractive nor are baby doll style dresses on elderly, mahogany faced ladies.

Chop off their heads, I say!

Seriously, live and let live! Look the other way if it offends you so much grin

We British people have long established the ability to dress badly. I’m to be MOB later this year and trying to find a suitable bit of what is called occasion wear proved a challenge. I want to go as me, rather than in disguise as the lady mayoress of Weatherfield.
We see the sun so infrequently that many feel the urge to expose as much flesh as possible.
I agree that the Italians are stylish. Even the police women on horseback near the Vatican look like super models, discreet make up, well fitting uniforms etc
I find the way increasing numbers of British men wear shorts, usually ill-fitting, whatever the weather, a mystery
I’ll say no more about multiple piercings, tattoos and leggings for fear of being accused of snobbery 🙈

Try again.
I think the heatwave here is frazzling the airwaves for photos from across the Channel.

But, once having had an Italian boyfriend, they are all style and no performance.
Worth a try though!

PS this is a bit of a tongue in cheek thread, isn't it? Or am I mistaken? 🤔

Real Men Don’t Do Ironing

Neither do a lot of Real Women either, it seems.

Even if we had long summers, I doubt whether British men could be even bothered to smarten up.
The young women are just as bad, I hate seeing overweight women in leggings, jeggins or whatever they are- not a good look. Or those nude coloured, skintight leggings, I thing they look vulgar.
Woman who are dressed head to foot in designer brand logos is another bug bare.
No the Italians can give us a run for our money for sure.

But, once having had an Italian boyfriend, they are all style and no performance.

Where clothing is concerned, people on the continent are very loyal to their homemade brands. I think that is because those clothes are designed to suit their shape, if you get what I mean. It even starts at a young age, my friend's DGC here all wear Petit Bateau outfits, even down to their underwear!
In the UK we seem to throw on a mixture of styles and fabrics and colours, and men especially have little regard for body shape.
I go for French in stylish men, it's more avant-garde.
Off to oggle a few more today. Even at 34° here today, I doubt if there'll be any males topless in town, more's the pity! DH has Barbour swimshorts at the bottom of the wardrobe, I'll fish them out for him to wear.
