In despair over trousers (lighthearted!)

Can’t find any summer trousers I really like. I’m wearing my last 2 pairs of Seasalt (navy, cotton/linen, wide leg but not huge wide leg IYKWIM) and another pair to death, and will need more soon.

Everywhere I look it’s crops, tapered, barrel leg (🤮) massively wide leg, and anything else (including synthetic fibres) that I don’t want.
I know what suits me, but nobody seems to make it any more.

I buy M&S slim leg jeans in regular length for the Summer when I want them ankle length to wear with sandals and long for the Winter when I want them to cover the top of my boots.

For those complaining about not having extra short in stock, they very often don't have long in stock either. To be honest I think so much gets shoplifted these days their stock control systems are all to pot. If there is nothing to show they have sold their old stock they won't get new stock in, at least until they do stock checks.

Shorter jeans in summer and longer in winter is my preference.

My preference is inger shopping no need to leave home. I do know others tolerate being out about and find shopping high street acceptable.

I used to love M&S Per Una clothes but their clothes now are not for me. I mostly wear jeggings (Asda or Matalan) fit best to cover up unsightly veins either cropped or long.
If going out I wear midi dresses or light dress trousers with floaty tops with bell sleeves.

Have you tried charity shops? I get most of my trousers there!
Last pair I bought were probably M&S linen harem pants- so comfy!

That’s a good point!
Also they don’t have the same number of assistants around to notice when stocks are low.

I don’t have any linen trousers but have a jacket and two shirts, and I’ll be honest with you and say that I find them a bit too hot, only 100% cotton will do for me in really hot weather.
Also, they look as if I’ve lived and slept in them for a week about ten minutes into wearing them.

Bluedaisy I agree. Lovely trousers and other items of ladies clothing from Robell.

I buy my trousers from So Simply Robell. In my opinion you can’t beat Robell for style, colour or choice.

I've just looked at Marks and Spencer straight leg, cotton trousers. They have a good selection of full length trousers.

I looked too, but when I went into the shop, they looked all very creased and they only stocked 27 and 29" leg. I do need to try on as they are often too big on the waist

Allira Fri 27-Jun-25 16:20:47

Yes, try ordering the same style next year and no, the style, fit, has changed.

At least M&S casual menswear was reliably constant up until this year. but no more ☹

Sarahr Fri 27-Jun-25 16:10:46

Join the club. Everytime I find a good style it disappears from the shops.

What about Roman

They even have a Petite range

White Stuff - I bought 2 pairs linen trousers this summer.

I saw trousers that I liked in M & S recently, but, they had no 10’s or 12’s, which I find quite often. I was just about to walk away, quite frustrated, when an assistant came in about to the rail. I said to her that you’d think that stock controllers would try to ensure that there was a supply of popular sizes. She said that because they are at the front of the rail, they always ‘go’ first!!

I haven't bought trousers in ages. The quality has long declined at M&S. They are now so thin. I buy Long and that can mean a perfect fit or sweeping the pavements.

Due to lymphoedema, I am unable to wear dresses or skirts. I will be going out in my night attire soon.

I used to buy M&S regular which are now too long because they do a short and an extra short 😯 so they must be longer.
However, short might shrink and end up as extra short anyway.

Does anyone want to be termed extra short? Especially if they know they used to be a regular person?

M&S say they do extra short, but I was in there yesterday, and in all the hundreds of pairs there was exactly one extra short, and that was a size 8.

I have shopped online with Halara. Very comfy, with a stretch to the fabric & comfortable waistband. Good fit, they often do 2 for 1 offers

Milliedog Fri 27-Jun-25 14:04:36

I've recently bought 2 pairs of linen mix trousers from H and M.

Try ebay as sometimes business sellers have new end of line items for sale

If they have faded use a navy Dylon, I refresh black clothes with a Dylon machine dye.

Just make sure the stitching is also cotton! I once dyed a cream/beige pair of trousers with a light stain that wouldn’t come out. I dyed them navy, but hadn’t realised that the sewing thread was polyester, which doesn’t take dye.

Luckily the original cream-coloured stitching looked fine - almost as if it was supposed to be there.

Sadly I couldn’t say the same for a bleach-splashed linen tunic, which I tried to dye olive green. I had to bin it.

Grannyjacq1 Fri 27-Jun-25 13:42:34

Look on Vinted or ebay - people often have last year's styles for sale- often hardly worn!

Maria59 Fri 27-Jun-25 13:39:23

I am currently in love with NEXT wide leg linen trousers. Not hugely wide but really comfortable

I have done this, might try it again.

Just don't tell DH, he thinks it wrecks the washing machine.

And another shorty here, 5'2" and I agree that buying a cropped length works for me. Although I love a wide leg trouser, balanced with a waist length top for balance, sorry OP but I love barrel leg trousers too 😉

Jaxjacky Thu 26-Jun-25 20:45:01

I’ve just bought another pair of M&S mom jeans in soft green, long, very comfortable.

Are those the new tablets they advertise on tv?
