In despair over trousers (lighthearted!)

Can’t find any summer trousers I really like. I’m wearing my last 2 pairs of Seasalt (navy, cotton/linen, wide leg but not huge wide leg IYKWIM) and another pair to death, and will need more soon.

Everywhere I look it’s crops, tapered, barrel leg (🤮) massively wide leg, and anything else (including synthetic fibres) that I don’t want.
I know what suits me, but nobody seems to make it any more.

Just google what you’re looking for??

Astitchintime Thu 26-Jun-25 11:04:38

I know exactly what you mean Witzend……and it’s the same with jeans. I did get some lovely lightweight trousers from F &F last year but after losing a considerable amount of weight they are now far too big……not found anything similar this year.

I've just looked at Marks and Spencer straight leg, cotton trousers. They have a good selection of full length trousers.

Allira Thu 26-Jun-25 11:12:03

Yes.

I ordered two new pairs but sent them back. My old ones spfut well but are getting rather faded now.
Cotton Traders did some straight cotton trousers last year but this year's offerings didn't fit at all well. They have faded, though.

Of course, M&S was unavailable for a while.

Look up silk (or similar material) yoga pants. They usually have lovely deep rollover elasticated waists which are mega comfortable.

spfut
fit

Why does autocorrect alter what you don't want changed but fails to change what is an obvious typo?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 26-Jun-25 11:19:24

If you put the style you require into the `John Lewis search bar on their website it will bring up all the brands with that style.

M & S have a good selection as does Boden, Sosander, Mint Velvet and Hobbs.

It just takes a bit of finger shopping and you will find am good selection

I bought a lovely pair of wide leg linen mix trousers from next. They fit very well are comfortable and are wide but not too wide.

Thanks, everybody, I’ll take up a couple of suggestions. Lately I’m probably too reliant on brands I know - where I know the quality and the sizing - and that I can order online.

TBH I loathe high street shopping for clothes - 9 times out of 10 - or 19 times out of 20 - they don’t have what I want in the size or colour I want.

Gin Thu 26-Jun-25 11:38:18

I agree. Marks had nothing but very wide trousers when I visited the store a couple of weeks ago. I need short length, Next had nothing so bought from them on line a pair labelled as ‘tapered’ ones but they were massively large around the thighs. Showing them to a friend I was informed that they were barrel trousers, I certainly looked like one in them. I want cotton or linen in lighter colours but there are very few available. I do not want navy, black or grey for summer wear. I suppose for clothing outlets we are now getting stock in for autumn, crazy as it seems.

Never mind all this trouble about trousers ladies, wear dresses or skirts, get some sun on your legs lol

kircubbin2000 Thu 26-Jun-25 11:41:56

It's nearly impossible if you have a big or bloating tummy. I'm still wearing a 10 year old pair of joggers my dad had in the nursing home. Of course M and S no longer make this very comfy style.

RosieandherMaw Thu 26-Jun-25 11:52:09

Gin if you are 5'2" like me, look at "ankle grazers"- perfect full length for me.

Elowen33 Thu 26-Jun-25 12:12:29

If they have faded use a navy Dylon, I refresh black clothes with a Dylon machine dye.

Caleo Thu 26-Jun-25 12:17:12

I am short and I get trousers that fit by buying cropped length instead of 'short'.

Caleo Thu 26-Jun-25 12:23:31

Kircubbin, joggers can be an inexpensive and comfortable choice. I cut the bottoms off them to get rid or the tight ankle ribbing, and make the legs shorter. They actually don't fray so no need to hem them after cutting.

I am a fan of simply cutting clothes to fit me. If the waist band were still too tight I'd cut through the waist band until it fitted me.

Lands' End have a variety of styles online.

I love to get sun on my legs and dresses are much cooler but trousers and socks are a necessity when walking the dog because of tics. There are so many of the horrible things about this year.
Witzend have you tried Damart or EWM?

Bixiboo Thu 26-Jun-25 12:37:23

I have had some lovely summer trousers from Bella di Notte. They also do a 27 inch length which is ideal for shorter ladies. Free delivery and returns is a bonus as well.

MickyT Thu 26-Jun-25 12:39:07

@25Avalon, fair play, I understand

Charleygirl5 Thu 26-Jun-25 13:56:16

I haven't bought trousers in ages. The quality has long declined at M&S. They are now so thin. I buy Long and that can mean a perfect fit or sweeping the pavements.

Due to lymphoedema, I am unable to wear dresses or skirts. I will be going out in my night attire soon.

Aldom Thu 26-Jun-25 14:51:02

I have many pairs of trousers and jeans from Marks and Spencer and cannot find fault w

Aldom Thu 26-Jun-25 14:54:07

... cannot find fault with any of them. The quality of the fabric is good as is style and fit. They carry such a wide variety to suit all shapes and sizes.
I really am satisfied with all of mine. They wash and wear well too.

I used to buy M&S regular which are now too long because they do a short and an extra short 😯 so they must be longer.
However, short might shrink and end up as extra short anyway.

Does anyone want to be termed extra short? Especially if they know they used to be a regular person?
