Too old for Tee shirts?

My partner announced the other day he thought he was maybe " too old for tee shirts". Now upgraded to a tee with linen shirt over the top.

It got me thinking....perhaps I too am not best suited to them? Lots of lumps and bumps, can never quite find up lift and comfort in a bra. A shirt or blouse is maybe the way to go?

Nobody is saying you can't wear anything. This was supposed to be a bit of fun.

At the risk of upsetting the Sisterhood, I actually think most older men look better, in fact quite dashing , in short-sleeved shirts rather than T-shirts.
Ladies can wear either, or both together, as they choose.

My mums 89 and wears 3/4 length sleeve T-shirts in summer with m & s extra short trousers .
The secret with a T-shirt is good quality cotton , which keeps its shape and isn’t too thin . Plus a scoop or v neck .
I’ve got T-shirts from whistles and Boden which I’ve had for over 10 years and still look good. I like a tee with a small side split as it adds some interest and makes it easier to do a French tuck .
My DH is 70 and wears T-shirts at home but going out and on holiday he wears a polo shirt which looks smarter .

If you see lumps and bumps when wearing a tee shirt then it probably isn’t big enough or it’s the wrong style - yes, a simple tee shirt can have style.
Go and try on some different sizes, and styles and keep rocking those tee shirts girl!!! 💪

Never! You’re never too old to wear anything.

Too old for t-shirts? Why on earth?
Everyone should wear whatever they want to wear.

Fruit of the loom Tee shirts, can have lightweight or a bit heavier, good fit, nice quality

I agree*M0nica! I still wear jeans in the winter too, and cropped chinos in the summer. Or shorts (but not in public!).

M0nica Mon 14-Jul-25 14:56:26

You are never too old to wear a T shirt.

I think T shirts can be unforgiving but with a good bra, ok. Personally, I find M&S T shirts truly awful. They fit badly on me and look ugly so I go for a slightly more expensive shop and it seems worth it. Also, online and ethical, I buy some tops in Nomads, often in their sale.

I cannot do that, Dogsmother , as the Tesco man could send for the police if I answered the door naked dressed in clingy.

Could be worth the laugh

There's loads of different sorts of Teeshorts to choose from , lafergar.

You should never wear things that make you feel uncomfortable, but don't give up because somebody else says so.

I wear nothing but tee shirts...tops from Bonmarche....my favourite shop for my age...when I say nothing but...I do wear skirts and trousers...don't want to scare the neighbours..

I wear tops from Hobbs and Whistles.
They are not described as T shirts, but that's what they are. Just a well made, smart version.

I’m wearing very lightweight pale yellow jeans with a navy t shirt, all cotton, very cool.

I'm an old lady!

Well some might dispute the lady!

Jeans in this weather?

I have several pairs of very lightweight white jeans which are a staple summer wear

Suspiros

I am lucky in that I am still reasonably slim at 74 and do not have bingo wings ( although the skin on my arms is starting to look a bit crepey). My summertime ‘uniform’ is T- shirt and jeans.
One thing I absolutely will not wear is jeans or trousers with an elastic waist. I think they scream ‘old lady’ at the world and they always make your bum look baggy. I actually shudder when I see them for sale online in shops like Damart.

You're very lucky in that then. Spare a thought for those of us who cannot wear anything with a fixed waistband because of certain medical conditions. I live in leggings for that very reasons. Wearing anything with a fixed waistband, even for a fairly short time, would leave me in agony for days.

Caleo Thu 10-Jul-25 17:55:19

Then , Suspiros, you would shudder at my apparel . I used to have a waist but now my priority is to pull my nether garment down very quickly before I wet it, and elastic is useful. Still I sympathise with your priority which ,believe it or not , affects me too . I prefer to appear healthier than I am and conceal what I do conceal.

Oh no! Mr L has failed badly this morning. A panama hat just looked plain daft.

I’ve told dh I’ll divorce him if he ever wears a Panama hat! Thank goodness until now he’s stuck to a wide-brim Aussie style.

Corks?

Well, I might wear DH's and attach corks as we have a swarm of flying ants in the garden.

I personally hate shirts and blouses and never wear them. T Shirts are good but I always buy scoop or v neck as I feel strangled in a crew. In this heat ( and most of the summer if I’m honest) I wear vest tops, sleeve less and cool with shorts or cotton/linen skirts . Linen dress if I want to be smarter going out . Wear whatever you like any age I’m 72 and I don’t care about anyone’s opinion but my own .

Allira Thu 10-Jul-25 16:15:20

The last person I would ask advice about clothing would be my DH he is clueless. When we go out I tell him what to wear if I don’t he would just stay in his scruffy dog walking pants.

DH surprised me this morning by looking very smart - and we were only going to the hospital!!
