If you are feeling extravagant, find your nearest Rigby and Peller, more expensive but worth it if you have a larger bust.

I worked with a lady who spent long years in Malaysia as an army nurse. She swore by 'cotton only!' in the tropics as she called it. Personally I find no underwear better in the heat if one is at home of course.

When I have been in Australia/Malaysia I have worn loose linen trousers and T shirts. I wore my usual bra, no problem.

The people in Malasia are quite modest and conservative regarding clothing. I bought a couple of really useful cotton dresses while I was in a Kuala Lumpur. Yes I agree cotton and linen for heat. Malaysia was a lot hotter than I anticipated

I would think twice about halter tops. In recent years Malaysia has become a much more Islamic country, with emphasis on 'modest' dress for women.

I would wear sleeveless or cap sleeved tops, with no plunging or revealing necklines, which would mean you could wear an ordinary bra.

I spent part of my childhood in Malaysia and I would concur with the recommendation to wear only cotton. As I remember all my dresses - and back in the 1950s/60s one wore mainly dresses - had short/cap sleeves or were sleeveless

Depends where in Malaysia you are going? KL is more liberal than say Penang.
You can buy Tee shirts with a "bra" inside. Also I often buy pure cotton bras from M&S comes in a pack of x3.
I have been out to Malaysia several times, I find it more humid that blistering sunny, so any Tee shirt and shorts for me.

I would not think halter necks, as that will expose your shoulders to the sun. Cheesecloth tops and skirts.

Malaysia is hot and sticky .
The people tend to be rather reserved .

Synthetic bras are too hot .
I've worn very loose long sleeved tops with long skirts or pants on my visit .
Remember to cover your hair if visiting mosques or holy places .
In fact I found that keeping my head covered and acting modestly earned me respect.
People were very kind and helpful .
I was extremely unwell on one trip -vomiting and passing out and found myself being massaged , fanned and having sweeties popped into my mouth whilst people looked upset and concerned !
Malaysian food and drink is delicious .
I took many gifts of inexpensive scent and soap which were appreciated
I felt very safe .
