what do you think of the hairstyles that we're seeing a lot of on the telly at the moment, the hair seems to be straight from the crown then half way down it's in a sort of ringlet. I always feel like taking a brush to it .

I have curly hair and a chin length bob suits me best. All one length, I cut it myself.

My favourite hairstyle is having some hair left.

Sorry Melbuckton that made me laugh

Many ordinary salons only seem to know how to do a graduated bob and though I’ve had some immaculately shiny creations of this style in the past I am so bored with it on me now.

So I did what some hairdressers (apparently) hate but some welcome;

I took a screenshot from a Pinterest collection and showed it when making the appointment for a complete restyle.

However when I arrived the main stylist after some discussion in the back told me they weren’t confident enough to do it, but would phone for a colleague to come in as it required “razor cutting” - sounded dangerous!
Had visions of Peaky Blinders but agreed to come back later on where the stylist after examining the enlarged image and asking me twice “are you absolutely sure this is what you want?” (slightly concerned now) I said an emphatic yes and she achieved an excellent adaptation of the style in this picture (not the face though sadly) but I loved it and lots of admiring and compliments from the others in the salon and work mates too. Best “do” I’ve had in years and NO tools required Result!!! Yey!!!

Grandmarderby10 That is exactly what I do! Find a new short sassy spiky style every few months. It’s amazing how much you can restyle short hair. My hairdresser is always accommodating, and good.

My hairdresser cuts hair beautifully. I always have a fringe as I have a very high forehead. Most of my friends have very short hair (a la Judi Dench) but that’s not my thing. It’s a bob shape but sort of layered.

Short hair. I sit in front of a fan to dry it, brushing back, and it's a blow-dry.

Being a teenager in the Sixties meant long hair, much like the young girls of today. After a few decades of perms, I went back to shoulder length hair for many years but last Easter I had it cut into a bob which has been easier to maintain and admired by many.

Well I am contrary to most then, I love to see a face, so it’s still a well cut pixie for me. I dont like many older ladies with longer hair unless it is really well cared for and away from their faces NOT tightly pulled back.
Also rather like younger men with longer hair in man bun styles.

I have been fighting with my curly hair all my life. I'm letting it go a little bit now, curly on top and neat at the back and round the ears. Also having high lights put in and a lighter base.

Look after your hair ladies. You have no idea of the devastation it causes if you lose it.

Witzend Wed 16-Jul-25 09:40:15

It turned into a family joke, that whenever she saw anyone with long/longish, curly-messy hair on the TV, my mother would say, ‘That HAIR!!’ 😂

Nicolenet Wed 16-Jul-25 11:02:42

Helen Mirren in the series 1923, the Duttons. Long and natural

dogsmother Wed 16-Jul-25 21:50:22

Oh Kate I did, it came back but never the same. Couldn’t agree more it’s miserable.

RedRidingHood Wed 16-Jul-25 22:24:55

Apart from my teens I had a pixie all my life. Servalan and Annie Lennox anyone?
I've been growing it out for 18 months now, fringe included and it's now similar to Blossoming. Not sure I'll keep it but I felt my pixie was making me look gaunt rather than gamine.
I'd love curls. I had chemo for breast cancer 5 years ago and absolutely adored the temporary curls I got afterwards.

Life changing dogsmother.

I think the worst look ever is a man bun! I loathe them and think they make men look right prats!

Kate1949 Wed 16-Jul-25 23:51:34

We all do the best we can with the hair we've got (or in my case had). Before I lost mine I used to look at people like Bill Bailey with a bald head and wispy bits at the back and criticise but now I understand. He was trying to hang on to what bit he had. Same with man buns. They are trying to follow fashion as we all did when young.

Kate1949 Wed 16-Jul-25 23:53:06

Sorry to derail the thread!

Not really derailed Kate you make an important point about how lucky we are.

Thank you. flowers

I'm not the greatest fan but when my second born puts his hair in one, I have a sigh of relief because I hate how scruffy he looks with his hair down. I also hate his tattoos and in the past, his stretched ears and piercings. I don't know where I got him from because the 5 others wouldn't be seen dead with all that going on. However, he is the one I'm closest too because he is such a lovely person...especially if you have your eyes closed. 🤣

I am lucky with my hair however it never looks perfect. We take so much for granted. Kate
you have been up front about your alopecia, not talked about very often but I understand so many people suffer with it. I remember Joan Collins had problems with her hair and wore hair pieces rather than wigs.
Everyone seems to be wearing the new hairstyle but I won’t. I ket mine dry naturally as don't like hair dryers unless absolutely have to.

Pixies please on older ladies, much more flattering.

Oh gosh, not on me with my scrawny, scraggy, hangy neck. Would look awful in profile. I’ll stick with my layered bob.
