Unexpected sartorial problem

I recently treated myself to a new everyday winter jacket. I saw it online and liked it but went into town to the shop to buy it. It's lovely. Very smart. The only snag is that it's so noisy! It rustles and creaks as I walk along. (Its definitely the jacket btw!)
Nothing to do about it. I'll just have to get used to it.

Oh my word, this has got me chortling away to myself! grin.
I also have a pair of farty flip flops, and one squeaky trainer.

😂😂😂😂

Sorry for digressing but all this farty talk took me back. For reasons unknown, at one time I'd let rip out of the blue at every step I walked. One day it happened and my boss walked by blowing loud raspberries. I couldn't understand why as I thought my farts were of the silent type. It wasn't until I started to wear hearing aids that I realised my farts were loud enough to be heard the other end of the room. Mortified didn't even begin to describe my embarrassment. Sorry if I've lowered the tone.

Easier to hold in a laugh or a fart? Answers on a postcard please!

I have some silicon ballet flats that look lovely but they make farty noises too. They are fine until my feet get warm. I wear them around the house sometimes, they are too beautiful to throw out.

I used to wear a leather skirt suit to work. Went to a meeting with leather chairs and as I plonked myself down it make a huge farty noise in the quiet room as leather met leather. I was the only female and I could see the men trying not to laugh and make a big deal out of it, but I wanted to laugh too and had to hold it in...

I had to Google that!

Got your Tena on I hope then petra🤭

Oreo

I used to have some shoes that did the same thing, got rid of them when I saw someone turn their head to look, they made a squelching farty sound😁

PMSL 😂

Is it caused by static? If so maybe putting it in a tumble dryer on a cold setting with a fabric conditioner sheet might sort it.

The dogs would certainly be giving me side eye if I swished past them. Better not have a GN meet up. The racket from rustly jacket, farty shoes and grinding corduroy would get us all done for breach of the peace!

I think with practice we could play “Twinkle, twinkle….”

GrannyGravy13 Tue 14-Oct-25 17:21:50

Aveline I have a rustling coat.

Sorry to say it still rustles after several years.

Elegran

Aveline

Actually I do look exactly like that girl but with trousers the proper length of course.

Ummm! . . .

Looks like you’re busted Aveline 😁 as it appears that Elegran has met you.

Ilovedogs22 Tue 14-Oct-25 16:52:18

The Dog's giving me a funny side-eyed look of contempt because I'm tittering & snorting in a very unlady-like fashion at some of your wonderful comments. Thank you for cheering me up on this grey miserable afternoon.

OldFrill Tue 14-Oct-25 16:47:07

At the price I'd take it back for a refund.

Aveline grin grin

SueDonim Tue 14-Oct-25 16:11:16

grin. You just need to whistle loudly when wearing your coat, Aveline!

I was looking at shiny pleather clothes in a shop yesterday and said to dh they must crackle and rustle when you wear them. The thought of creaking trousers or blouses puts me right off, plus they’re basically plastic! I think people must think they’re some sort of vegetarian version of leather but basically, they’re glorified binbags. 😂

Usedtobeblonde Tue 14-Oct-25 15:19:44

You can tell what a lazy so and so I am I have three posts on Last Hour.

Usedtobeblonde Tue 14-Oct-25 15:17:05

That laugh is just what I needed.
I decided to do some decluttering but realised I don’t have the energy needed so settled for GN instead.
I am so pleased I did, this thread has done me a power of good.

Aveline Tue 14-Oct-25 15:13:10

It's not actually moisturiser Blossoming I just iron my face every morning wink

Blossoming Tue 14-Oct-25 13:41:35

Fabulous moisturiser Aveline, what brand is it?

Casdon Tue 14-Oct-25 13:40:28

Sorry to say Aveline that three years ago I bought a beautiful looking, warm jacket with a furry lining, and it was weather proofed, but it crackled every time I moved. After one winter, much as I liked the look and warmth of it, it had to go. I couldn’t relax in it, particularly when I was driving, or carrying anything. Never again. Can you return it?

Allira Tue 14-Oct-25 13:37:18

Aveline

Here it is if you're wondering where the noisy rustling is coming from. That's me modelling it 😂

What are you doing on Gransnet, Aveline?
You don't look more than about twenty, or else you're very well-preserved.
😁

Allira Tue 14-Oct-25 13:35:13

I've got some farty shoes as well 😁

And swishy corduroy trousers.
If I bought that coat I could be a one-woman band!

Composition: 43% organic cotton, 37% recycled nylon, 20% recycled cotton, Lining: 100% recycled polyester
It's the lining - made from recycled milk bottles, I reckon.

Apart from that, it's a lovely coat.
