Winter Uniform!

I need a simple solution to winter dressing. I find it very hard to get up and out some days so it's got to be easy, practical and look OK.

Any ideas?

No tights! smile

Why do you want a winter uniform ?

Somedays wear a dress, others trousers, another day jeans or skirt.

I like Landsend!

My daughter in law gave me a lovely Landsend long jacket with a warm lining and hood, ideal for dog walking.

Last year I bought 4 pairs of furry lined jeggings from next - so comfy and cosy. Worn with thermal vest and fleece top for every day. Knitted dress and thermal tights ( sorry) for going out. Love my long puffy coat - like wearing a duvet,

Today at 4°C and wind chill making it even less it's a vest, short sleeved teeshirt, warm woolly type jumper on top. Jeans with thermal leggings and thick socks. Outdoors, waterproof with fleece lining and hood 3/4 length jacket and lined Gortex boots. Leather fleece lined gloves but no hat, will use the hood if needed. I dress according to weather, not fashion.

Fleece-lined bootcut yoga trousers, camisole top in a toning colour, long v-neck pullover or coatigan in a contrasting colour; knee length bamboo socks, boots or chunky trainers with good, grippy soles.
If I'm going out, just throw on my big black parka and bucket hat and I'm good to go.

Winter Uniform!

My first thought on seeing the heading was Chilprufe vest, gymslip, blouse, tie, cardigan, reefer coat, velour hat and black lace-up shoes! Oh, and warm navy blue knickers.

Not such a good look at my age, though.
It wasn't a great look all those years ago either.

Layers are my go to solution from November to March. I rarely put my central heating on but hardly ever feel cold. Bra, thermal vest, maybe long sleeved t-shirt, jumper (cotton or wool), jeggings or leggings, sometimes thermal tights underneath, thick walkers socks, UGG slippers or UGG or EMU boots when out, football manager type Lands End coats (always bought in sales when about £70.

Today I am wearing - bra, long sleeved thermal top by M and S, 100% Pima Cotton cardi by Spirit of The Andes, black/grey animal print leggings by M and S (years old), black socks by QD, green leather nappe leather ankle boots by Gudrun Sjoden which are about 5 years old. I have been out with my husband and niece so I also wore my new down coat by Masai and some mushroom coloured leather gloves. Toasty warm! oh, and knickers you will be pleased to know! 🤣

Knickers to you too!

Some days I can't be bothered with the upholstery.

Wyllow3 Mon 24-Nov-25 14:49:08

☺️ I forgot them too.

A uniform?

Elasticated waist thicker trousers, long sleeve tee shirt, and jumper on top. That’s it.
Try Landsend as already suggested, Chums, or Bonmarche.
I just bought a pair of elasticated waist jersey jeans from M&S, really comfy. The fact they are advertised as ankle grazers put me off until I read the reviews and someone had advised buying a long fitting if you just want an ordinary trouser length. This worked for me because I usually go for a regular trouser length.

They shrink slightly in the wash too, so buying a longer size is good.
You can pull them out when they're damp too.
Don't tumble dry!

For the past couple of years I’ve positively lived in M&S cosy jeggings in winter. A warm jumper and a padded gilet, ankle boots if going out.

I’d recommend looking at the Lighthouse website, there’s a lot of choice and several on offer.

I can't wear leggings, for some reason they make my legs uncomfortable - twitchy!

Warm jersey trousers and a long sweater for everyday wear. I found some thermal socks, not thick, from M&S in the back of the drawer earlier this week (must order some more).
Boots. Always wear shoes (trainers) indoors anyway.

Camisole top underneath but if it was really cold I'd buy some thermal vests.

A smarter version if I was going out or a layered look.

DD bought merino wool vests and long fitted leggings last year and said they were toasty. I think they were from Mountain Warehouse. Other makes available.
You can wear smart clothes on top and still keep warm.

M0nica Sun 23-Nov-25 19:38:08

Then there is organising your clothes for easy use. I have complete outfits hanging together one hangar. Today for example I am wearing a skirt with soft medium thickness poloneck sweater with a cardigan jacket over.

All I needed to do this morning was walk to the wardrobe, take the hangar out of the cupboard and there was my complete outfit, no need to make any decisions about which skirt, with which sweater etc etc.

I know this way of dressing would not suit many people, but from the tone of the OP's approach to clothes, I think it is a method that would benefit her.

Wyllow3 Sun 23-Nov-25 19:34:10

Oh..indoors well sorted. All day warm fleece trousers (TU, £10) and a big big fleece with hood (Amazon, £14 to £18) on top of...more....heatgen....

Wyllow3 Sun 23-Nov-25 19:32:00

M nS heatgen stuff is tops.

Me: either trousers, heatgen top, big jumpers: nice scarf giving style and warmth. Good with all my sketcher shoe collection and bright matching socks.

Or - I wear leggings a lot. You can get either cotton rich or even wool mix. Bootees: a skirt and jumper or fashion fleece or dress and cardi (all with more heatgen underneath).

If its really cold, Big sea salt or M n S padded coat to for best a coat from a charity shop. More scarves (again, charity shops have loads of scarves. Or a pretty raincoat (got one 3/4 length from Next, another floored pretty one from a Charity shop.

Calf length tweedy-style coat, lots of corduroy, TIGHTS and topped off by hiking boots with super-grip soles. Not elegant but they will minimise the risk of a fall/broken hip.

Tenko Sun 23-Nov-25 19:19:17

Jeans , jumpers or cardigans and boots or trainers . With a coat, scarfs and gloves when out .
