What fashion items remind you of your parents?

my mum had a heavy sheepskin coat and would put it over the bed when it was cold for me and my sister who shared the double bed in our room.

There's nothing my mum wore that I would ever wear apart from some sandals that I loved. I can't quite remember exactly what they looked like but I've been searching for a pair like them for decades. I've just found a shop called memery shoes and I've been looking at their 1950's sandals and they sort of look like them but they're still not quite right. I probably couldn't wear them anyway because of my mutant feet [and I don't go anywhere that involves dressing up anyway, although I do have a 1950's style dress that I bought in a shop in Edinburgh and a hat that I found in a charity shop; it would be nice to have the sandals to go with them]. I can just about picture them in my head; they didn't have sling backs. My Aunty Kitty used to come on holiday with us and she always wore her hat indoors. All my family have thin hair so I wish it was still the done thing to do that. I have a photo of my mum sitting on the beach with her coat on. Oh, I did buy some pom pom slippers years ago like the ones my granny wore in the only photo I have of her.

my mum always had a rainmate in her bag, it was like a plastic scarf with ties at the end, just incase it rained and spoiled her perm

My mother’s black suede winter ankle bootees with a zip up the front. All the mothers seemed to wear them.

I forgot about the boots...I had a pair of black boots with a zip up the front, I wore them to school in the winter..

I can remember my mum having cardboard inside her winter boots, and a plastic bag to put her foot in.

They really did go without to make sure we had shoes and winter coats.

Headscarves, my Mum often wore one. Matching pen and pencil set in his top pocket Dad.

Headscarves, yes. More practical than a hat if you're bending down attending to children all the time.
Mum's generation tied theirs under their chins or made them into "turbans" - our generation also wore headscarves but we tied them at the back under our long hair.

A scarf - my mum had a scarf to match every outfit and I have to say, she always looked very well put together!

My mother’s headscarves, cross-over pinnies, and always a hat and a good coat to go into town in. My father, collarless shirts and a waist coat indoors; a three piece suit with a tie outside summer (even on holiday) or winter, except when he was going to work. And Brylcreem! A different generation.

Both my parents wore a lot of crimplene. Trousers and ties in particular. Mum used to put a cardigan over her shoulders without putting her arms in. Most women did this.

I remember mum’s black cocktail dress. It had a sort of train on the back. She wore it with her pearls. So glamorous. She always smelt of perfume - ‘Tweed’ I think - with a hint of Benson and Hedges. Dad was always very smart. He had his suits made by a tailor in Reading and his hats made too. He reckoned the shape of his head made it too difficult to buy them off the peg!

I don't think my mum wore anything fashionable.
Serviceable was more her thing.

I do remember a pair of pink iridescent dangly earrings in her jewelry box, though.

I think they are calling them co ords currently, my mum always liked to wear a skirt suit in coordinated colours.

Nan wore something called a duster coat in Spring/Summer in a pastel colour.

Linen chino's & sunglasses curtesy of my father & pretty dresses & high-heeled shoes adorning my pretty mother.

My mum was always very fashionable, I can remember mini skirts and dresses, even hot pants under little mini dresses. She then moved onto trousers and jeans, always smart and with it Even when she was terminally ill she had her hair coloured and cut the week before she went into the hospice.

My dad was always in trousers and shirts, not always with a tie, when he retired it was chinos or jeans and polo shirts.

Bunnet is a flat cap ( Scottish)

I think a 'bunnet' is a beret (like a cap) Fallingstar my dad used to put his on too when he went off on his bicycle for work, he also put bicycle clips around his ankles to keep his trousers out of the way.
Dad wore Brillcream on his hair too, it was what a lot of men put on their hair in the day, horrible stuff. Mam used to play war with him for it rubbing off on the pillowcases

My mum used to like wearing suits. She had a tweed one for the winter and and lighter blue moygashel one for the summer. She would either wear a blouse or twin set under the jacket.

Ooh Moygashel brings back memories, a type of faux linen if I remember correctly. Good for trousers as it didn’t crease.

My mother had a lovely Hungarian embroidered blouse, and I had a junior version. I still like them to this day and often see them for sale.

Not really a fashion item ,
my lovely Gran after a perm would wear hairnet.
Brownish during the day , pink or blue to bed!
And always a half apron in the morning.

My Grandpa wore his bunnet on leaving the house .

My mum wore a housecoat over underware.
Then get dressed at midday after all housework was done or nails painted.

My father wore a clean nylon non iron (not true) shirt in every pastel colour you can think of and always a tie.
