Old looking hands.

My father always mad my sister and me do the washing up. She would immediately grab the tea towel and make me wash. I have had wrinkly old hands since my teens.

Avon hand cream and massage makes them look a little better, as does exercising them raised, but pretty irreversible in my case (and my face is wrinkle free, so not my genes)

MayBee70 Thank-you but do you glue the teabag cut out to the nail?

It was years ago but I cut out a small piece of the teabag, placed it on the broken bit and then put the nail glue over the area as if I was painting my nails. It was quite horrible because the nail split really low down so I couldn’t even cut the nail back to it.It lasted until the nail grew out. In fact I must check to see if the nail glue is still usable and not all dried up just in case it happens again.

I often have a manicure with gel nails and love how my hands look after. I do have veins showing and a few age spots but I am so thankful my fingers are straight and movement good. I have always worn lots of rings and still continue to do so. My favourite hand cream is L'Occitane which helps keep my dry skin moist.

I have always had prominent veins on the back of my hands. I discovered " valves" when I was bored at primary school. and only learned what they were in biology lessons at GS. I could have done with veins in my elbow when giving blood samples.

I discovered a trick to help them appear younger. One nail kept splitting so I bought some nail hardener. It gives a subtle sheen to the nails and I now use it all the time. After a couple of months I realised my nail lines have all but disappeared. Couple of pounds in Savers.

When I had a particularly bad split I cut out a bit of a tea bag and repaired the nail with nail glue. It did the job really well.

I caught Dermatitis as an apprentice hairdresser and it would come back over the years if my hands became too dry. I’ve tried loads but the very best I find is “The Body Shop Hemp handcream”

Used to have very nice looking hands with long straight fingers and long, strong nails. Move on a few decades and what a difference, probably my best feature disappeared. Short stubby nails that split despite trying umpteen remedies and arthritic bent fingers and thumbs but they do match the rest of me!!

My nails were so strong and I, too, used to grow them really long Then a few years ago the ridges started and then they started splitting and cracking. Arthritic thumb joints mean I can hardly use my hands some days. And don’t let me get started on my feet. If my hands are bad they are even worse. The difference being that the nails are like leather and impossible to cut

Nandalot. You might curse prominent veins but I bet they never have trouble getting a blood sample. Although I am normall weight they always have difficulty finding a vein to get blood from. And always have had

I have old hands too. I have had them for years. I remember putting my hands the baby bottle steriliser when my 5 children were babies and I think that was a major contributor. I also have a scar on the back of my right hand from having a skin graft after a melanoma was removed. That patch isn’t wrinkly at all because it came from my inner arm!

Of course, what made the hand look good was the warming up of the hand not the cream. I think they were banned eventually.

No! Maybe that was a local to you thing?

My hands look fine to me, but I’m not wrinkly anywhere else either (yet)😁
I rub Revitalive I think it’s called into them every morning when I moisturise my face.Seems to work.

Not any help to you really. My hands have served me for 77 years. They’re wrinkly, veiny and old looking, on the plus side they’re pain free and still work well. I have had so many friends pass away in recent years, I’m really pleased to accept them the way they are.

We don’t always remember to moisturise our hands as often as our faces and neck and when you think of it they get a lot of exposure to UV rays, wind and weather. As we lose a layer of subcutaneous fat that can also show up on hands (and knees incidentally), so moisturising is essential.
I also think that long talon like- nails, especially painted, and even worse with «nail art» can make old hands look particularly gruesome. (Think of Ronald Dahl’s The Witches.)
Keep your nails shortish, «squoval» or cut straight across - it’s much more flattering.

My right hand has changed shape! Index finger curves in and and base of thumb is crooked. When I first noticed I realised it looked exactly like my mother's hand.

Dotpocka When I use cotton gloves and vaseline overnight, I wake with new hands! Must use cotton as it breathes. Same for feet and it's amazing!

That's the correct answer.

I was genuinely surprised to look in the mirror and see a wrinkly face after I had my cataract operation. People laughed when I told them. 😞
However being able to drive and to thread a needle more than makes up for a face I don't have to look at.
Same goes for hands. I'm grateful to my hands for all they've done.

A few drops of rosehip oil rubbed in help with hydration and masking age spots.

I don't mind my hands being covered with wrinkles, age spots and prominent veins. I just feel glad that they are not arthritic and still strong enough.
By the way, at boarding school in the 1950s, we had white cotton gloves to wear to church on Sundays with our Sunday dresses.

I rather like my old wrinkly hands and prominent veins. They are like a road map to my life.
