A sea of seventies brown!

As I said upthread , I like brown and it was around last winter and spring , so not new. The thing with brown is that it doesn’t need to be top to toe and the fabric is important. Brown looks better in wool and silk . Cotton , jersey and polyester can make brown look flat . I have a cashmere and wool brown short sleeve cardigan , which looks great with jeans both blue denim and cream and I got a lot compliments about it. Plus a brown wool slouchy blazer . Both from Zara winter 26 .
I wouldn’t wear brown trousers or a skirt , although both look good in lux fabrics like leather or silk .

I think brown suits some people ( autumn shades ) but not all . I find it dreary and all over the place at the moment it’s fashion isn’t it ?

I find brown miserable and never wear it. Yes everything looks a bit like a 70s furniture shop.

But my biggest hate is all the shapeless dresses that look like something my grandmother might have worn when I was little, with the notable exception that they have very short or cap sleeves.

Away on oliday with a slew of house magazines. The incoming colours are definitely browns & beiges, and dark pinks.

I’m not impressed with the colours that are around at the moment. None of them suit me at all. There doesn’t even appear to be much in the way of plum colours for autumn this year which would suit me much better.

Brown does suit me but yellow or mustard doesn't.

I shall dig around at the back of the wardrobe and see what I can recycle.

I'm surprised how many of us had brown school uniforms. I didn't think it was that common. I don't like browns and oranges to wear so if Australia follows suit it'll be a cheap clothes year for me - no bad thing really! My friend on the other hand loves Autumn colours so will be in her element.

Around and all pervasive are different phenomena though Visgirl, and I’m sure clothes sales will be down, because a lot of people don’t like browns. We will see when the sales roll round in January.

Brown was around last Autumn /Winter in all the shops it's lovely, and a nice change, not a colour I would normally pick.
I did noticed that it was the colour that sold out first on line especially in M&S. I added some last year to my wardrobe, it's a much softer palette tone than Black.

Not a colour I wore at school, that was Black with Orange woven Tie, and "Girdle". I try and steer away from Black.

I don't think I've ever worn brown.
My girl did, and they looked fine in her as did all the other more muted colours.
Not that I probably look any better in black, but it's my go-to colour.

Brown with light blue brown with pink brown with cream .. doesn’t have to fill on 70s .. also burgundy abounds and that’s nice with pink ..

Those are also classic 1970s colour combinations. The only thing that seems different to me is the trouser shape - I’m expecting to see two tone loons any day now.

I was looking on the M & S website with a view to complain about their styles and colours, and the fact that they only seem to be catering for a particular style - though I can’t actually think of an appropriate description of it - and that they seem to have forgotten about us older ladies who have been their loyal customers for many years. There is a statement from the ceo saying that they are guilty of trying to attract the 20-50 age group, and that they need to get back to also providing for the older customers. No sign so far.

MartavTaurus yep, I have been to a local’ish shopping centre today, very brown and beige, neither colours are for me.

The only shop with anything different was The White Company. I need to get to John Lewis to see what they have in store, online its looking promising.

You're right, NEXT - everything is brown, H&M - brown and beige.
M&S - the brown animal prints looked OK, but who wants to spend every day looking like Kat Slater (EE), or a leopard?
The plain brown items weren't my cup of tea, they looked dated.

My eldest DD who has worked in the fashion industry all her working life often points out to me that fashion can only go around in circles. If you don’t like what’s “in” just don’t wear it.

I'm loving the brown, orange and olive green. They are all colours which suit me. I think brown can be dressed up beautifully with gold accessories or bright cardigans. It's black I try to avoid. I also love purples, pinks and reds.

I’m absolutely delighted that ‘my autumn colours’ are now back in fashion.
Had too many years of trying to find clothes in the sea of black and grey.

I absolutely love brown, I wear it with copper accessories, in fact I love all the rich jewel colours, can't wait for autumn. Its good we don't all like the same things.

Sounds like yet another year when I won't find anything I want to buy. I went in to Clinkards shoe shop today and was quite depressed by the displays of winter BOOTS. For goodness sake, its only August and I haven't had my summer hols yet.

I only need a new pair of jeans, my clothes from last year are fine.

I find the newer clothes rather horrible. It reminds me of the hideous brown crimplene skirts and orange nylon blouses worn by my great aunties. These aunties looked ancient to me but they were probably younger than I am now!

It really is like the Freemans catalogue (previous poster) has come back to haunt us.......

Just shows we all see colours differently. For several years I’ve struggled to buy with shops full with those heather colours and the darker red that I always think of as dried blood😂😱

One year of brown and warm colours please. Turn and turn about😀

I was looking forward to buying lovely heather colours and warm navy, claret not brown. I look like something unpleasant in brown. I can't find anything new for autumn yet.
