Has anyone come across a mobile phone - that would only be used to make / receive calls, with bigger than average keys for Grandad with big fingers? Oh yes, it has to have a flip or slide cover to prevent numbers being dialled inadvertantly while in the trouser pocket? Oh yes, and a large screen which may be seen without glasses? Oh yes, and........................... Thank you in anticipation..

Try a Samsung E1150. It is a tiny clam-shaped phone with big buttons which only does basic calls and texts - almost pensioner proof! Vodafone recently had them on Pay as you Go for £15. I think T- mobile also do them, but of course they can be unlocked and used with any SIM card for other networks. A friend has one and she actually enjoys using it. I am used to my old Motorola RAZR , but if I had to change, I would definitely go for one.
I have also seen a Doro advertised, which is bigger and has very large keys. They tend to appear in mail order booklets which come in the post.
Hope this helps.

I've been looking at the Doro and decided against it when I discovered it is made of cheap white plastic with lime green edges. Also doesn't have a camera, which I do like to use. The newish Motorola Gleam looks like a useful and simple phone and is cheaper than the Doro, but is rather shiny . . . Big buttons, though all on one piece rather than separate. Good luck BodhranBev.

I have phone numbers written on a piece of paper with my phone because I really don't know how to use it. I'm always sending people texts [which I can't do] and phoning them by mistake.. .and when it does ring I usually press the wrong button to answer it. When it rang at work the other day I went into absolute panic because I realised it was from my daughter and assumed something dreadful had happened. I am beyond help, I think. I loved my original 'brick' phone, which I still have and would still use if I could [without being laughed at]. They were cool enough in The Matrix, were they not?

Thanks nanafrancis, I'll look up the website. I don't really mind not hearing the phone! it's everyone else calling me who complains smile

Your post made me think about my phone ..which almost needs a magnifying glass and I can only press the buttons with the tip of my nail.
I only use it for calls if I go out (infrequently) but need something more user friendly...I looked at Tesco and actually ordered a Doro 409.
Let you know tomorrow what it is like when it arrives..

Hi Bodhran,
I got my DORO 409 from Tesco today and I love it. At first my husband said ''HOW MUCH ??'' (like they do !!) but he is well impressed with it.
Very easy to set up and use, excellent large buttons, great visibility and loud !!
Nice looking phone exterior and white / black inside.

For me it's not the screen size but the font size that's the problem. Young assistants in the shops insist that a large screen is what I need but all that does is give me a greater acreage of minute text to read. Large screen does not mean large text!
I don't want a simple phone as I like and use most of the options but it's so frustrating to have to find my glasses each time I receive a text. Ah, losing glasses - that's another thing confused

Ok well, our eldest son has given his father an `old` phone - 2006 - a Nokia 6280 which does have bells and whistles but also nice usable keys, a slide top with easy lock feature and a loud ring! Have not seen a Doro phone yet in the two Tescos I have been in lately, but will keep looking.

By the way, there is a facility on our mobiles at home to make the text larger!

Hubby (and me) much happier....
