Probably will go for 9/10 inch one not sure.

Been looking in argos and seems to be a few that sound ok.

At the moment I use a laptop so not touch screen, Tablet would be so much better especially when sat in bed sold winter nights on GN smile

Me again!

The Amazon Fire does automatic updates, guess others do to?

I love mine, especially as I have very restricted access to the PC with Mr P taking over my lovely home office due to working from home.

Because his official working hours are 7am to 3pm, I use my Fire tablet to read books, as "proper" books would mean turning the light on.

A lot of Apple fans, and as they say, you can get reconditioned ones, but I'm happy to stick with my Fire, does all I need it to do, easy to download apps, I use it for here, FB, email, web stuff, etc etc

My first thought was you meant a bar of that famous Scottish sweetie.

I bought my reconditioned ipad from is it CEX? I'm very happy with it. At the moment, I'm all Apple, with an iphone, ipad and Macbook so if someone phones me, they are ring!!

I’m a confirmed Apple user and over the years have had both an iPad and iPad mini. I much prefer the mini for ease of use/handling-bigger tablets can be a bit awkward sometimes depending where you’re using them. To tell the truth, I seldom use a tablet as my phone does everything including Zoom. Kindle, etc.

I've had both Samsung tablets and an ipad and much prefer the Samsungs. What phone do you have?. If you have an iPhone then an ipad makes sense, if a Samsung phone then get a Samsung tablet. They can be linked together. I second Music Magpie for refurb tech.

I have WhatsApp linked to my phone on my Samsung tablet.

Erm, I've got Google play on my Fire tablet!

Bikergran have a look on Amazon, rather than Argos, and if you can got any on until Black Friday, you could get a better deal

You've just missed the 2 day Prime special event, sadly. There were some very good offers.

Thanks to all on info about Whatsapp and google play, will take another look around. I prob wouldn't use whatsapp on the tablet but would use google play store.

Gardenersdelight2 Sun 25-Oct-20 17:29:15

You can't use Google play only Amazon apps and no WhatsApp as only able to use it if you have a sim card

We have 3 re-conned iPads. Excellent value, not a mark on them. Plus, if you have a problem you can go to their shops where the staff are brilliant. I've used other tablets but I find them slow.

I’ve got an AmazonFire and iPad. I much prefer the iPad to be honest. I bought my husband a Samsung Galaxy tablet and he likes it.

FannyCornforth Sun 25-Oct-20 09:48:16

It appears not BG
I could be wrong though...

FannyCornforth Sun 25-Oct-20 09:03:11

I'm going to check Google play and WhatsApp for you.
I'll be back in a mo!

FannyCornforth Sun 25-Oct-20 09:01:28

Bikergran
I get the sponsored screensavers too.
They aren't annoying - they disappear as soon as you touch it.
I wouldn't let them put you off.

Can you download whatsapp on Amazon fire ?

I seem to be reading conflicting reports.

Also do you have to buy the games from Amazon?

or can I download Google Play ?

thanks for info.

I would totally recommend the Amazon Fire, it is very simple to use and reliable.

I have an Asus which I loved but its battery is clapped out and runs down after an hour or two on GN. Its replacement is a Samsung 8 inch Galaxy Tab A which is fast, the battery goes on for days and the screen quality is superb.

bikergran Sat 24-Oct-20 17:44:43

Hmmm...had almost made my mind up "amazon fire 10 inch

£149 argos (bit above my budget but)

Then reading the small print says " please note this version comes with special offers, which means you will receive sponsored screensavers directly to your device,to unsubscribe from this service it is a one off payment "£10 bit sneaky! back to the drawing board. hmm

Gardenersdelight2 Sat 24-Oct-20 17:36:41

I've had 2 kindle fires and now have a cheap Fusion 5 which works well. My only issue with kindles is that you can only download Amazon approved apps which did mean that there were some I couldn't access

phoenix Sat 24-Oct-20 17:19:42

Not sure which I have blush but Mr P ordered an SD card for it, which gives extra memory.

bikergran Sat 24-Oct-20 16:57:30

Do any of you find the 16GB is enough or would you pay the extra and go for 32GB.

I don't play many games /puzzles on laptop as hard work, but think I would be more inclined with tablet.

bikergran Sat 24-Oct-20 16:41:29

Ohh lots to think about, I shall re read and do a bit of searching. Its about time I treat myself smile

Thanks for al suggestions.
