Car phone holder

I use google maps on my phone and find it very good. But within days of having it mounted on the screen I removed it as I found it too much of a visual distraction. I leave it in the compartment near the handbrake. It talks to me via Bluetooth on the car speakers. I find it’s safer to just listen to the directions rather than looking at the screen. Maybe I’m just too easily distracted.

I used to put mine on the passenger seat until after a year I’ve worked out, via usb I can use it through my cars onboard computer! Took me long enough ? my excuse is I hadn’t really been anywhere.

All the holders I have looked at are made to fit in the slats of ventilators in the dashboard. We don't have those. I asked one of my sons if he could use it but he doesn't have the slats either.

I have also tried one which fit with suction pads to the windscreen but despite care to clean the windscreen and checking it was fixed well, the damn thing fell off at a crucial point in the journey and I had to listen out for instructions from the footwell.

Dashboards are no longer made of polished walnut, like in the 1930s, but of a plastic coating with a relief pattern in it so no provision for anything which needs suction pads.

We do have an integrated satnav in our car radio but it runs on a CD which is now 10 years out of date and an updated version would cost more than a new satnav.

So, no, I have not found a solution to this problem.

I once put my phone in a windscreen holder in the summer heat and it shut down and nearly exploded! I threw it away, never again!

Thanks everyone maybe I’ll just put it in the drinks slot and just listen to the instructions not ideal though.

I use Wase, very good app, and better than Google maps for me. As with another comment or, I put my phone in the well near the handbrake, you can then listen and read the road at the same time.

Do all cars still have CD slots? I have a holder which fits in the slot and holds very firmly.

I bought a sort of flat black rubber thing from Amazon, which is somehow balanced on the inside of the car. My iPhone simply sits on it and hasn’t fallen off yet! It was around £10.
